Is it gross for an adult to only get a shower 3 times a week?

3 showers a week, AIBU to think this is a bit gross?

I once worked as a home carer and one of the carers got sacked due to poor personal hygiene. My god she stank, she had no washing machine and refused to pay for the laundrette. Very greasy hair, smoked like a trooper, had bad dandruff

I don't even think she knew what a shower was

A lot of my ladies refused to have her care for them because she smelled

But to top it off she wouldn't use gloves to change pads, wash etc and then not wash her hands in between making food or cups of tea! One ladies daughter videoed her doing it.

So gross

FabbyChic · 23/07/2011 22:10

Mucky that is gross

spiderslegs · 23/07/2011 22:13

Have done a quick straw poll - DH says I do not smell.

Thrust my armpit in sleeping DCs' faces - they did not flinch, not so much as a twitch (mind you, I may have rendered them unconscious).

I don't wear deodorant either.

& my farts smell of roses.

mumnotmachine · 23/07/2011 22:14

I shower twice a day and still feel minging in the hot weather, even though I know I dont smell!

mousymouse · 23/07/2011 22:26

:o spider
I'm in the 'wash every other day' camp. which makes it around 3x a week...
pits and bits wash in between.
I sniff yesterday's clothes in the morning after a good airing and wear them again if they are not smelly.

spiderslegs · 23/07/2011 22:35

Twice a day??

Are you a navvy?

auroraday · 23/07/2011 22:38

I shower or bath daily (hair wash every other). I think most women can get away with skipping the odd day rather than be late for school Grin. I don't think men can - they will tend to be a bit whiffy. I am always surprised to see men with greasy hair - if you have short hair that just needs a bit of 'poo in the shower, why not wash it? [has Shock realisation maybe they aren't showering either...]

poppyknot · 23/07/2011 22:46

Not everyone is able to shower or bath easily. I find it difficult to to get into the shower and impossible at the moment to get into the bath (grab rails might help but we haven't got them yet). As it happens I actually manage at the moment to shower four or five times a week.........

Nice to know that when this becomes more difficult people might consider me smelly............

springydaffs · 23/07/2011 22:47

I just don't understand why people shower every day! I'm probably a twice a week-er and wash my bits every day in between. I change my drawers every day but don't wear a fresh top every day if I can get away with it. We live in a cold country (mostly) - there is absolutely not need to shower every day. As for twice a day that's just freaky and makes me feel claustrophobic just to hear it - get me some air!

I hate the pallava of all that stuff and will get away with as little as possible. I never don't wash my bits and nobody would know I don't have OCD in the shower department like the rest of the country because I look and smell clean. I'm not a miner or a footballer or a builder and absolutely don't need to wash my bod every day.

CheerfulYank · 23/07/2011 22:53

I wash every day in the summer just because the shower feels lovely. (Especially with this damn heat wave) Otherwise probably 5/6 times a week.

AnyFucker · 23/07/2011 22:59

poppy, I wouldn't

AnyFucker · 23/07/2011 22:59

I DID NOT SHOWER OR BATH TODAY

so sue me Grin

RainboweBrite · 23/07/2011 23:01

Usually every other day for me, unless it's very hot. I find I really appreciate and enjoy showers much more in this way than I think I would otherwise. It makes something mundane less of a chore.

pinkmagic1 · 23/07/2011 23:07

I would feel absolutely disgusting if I didn't shower daily. I shower every morning and night although sometimes I will have a bath in the evening instead. You may not smell to bad without a daily bath or shower but don't you feel gross?

AnyFucker · 23/07/2011 23:15

"absolutely disgusting"

that's nice

PumpkinBones · 23/07/2011 23:18

Don't rely on your OH to tell you if you smell or not. DH does not wash every day, and I like the smell of him unwashed. People who don't want to have sex with him may have a very different view...

LRDTheFeministNutcase · 23/07/2011 23:26

pink, is that not more to do with routines breaking? I feel absolutely gross, thoughtless and scatty if I don't get my morning coffee. It doesn't mean I take that feeling as a sign I should caffinate myself religiously.

threefeethighandrising · 23/07/2011 23:26

If you wash your hair every day it will need washing everyday. The more you wash your hair the more you need to, as washing it strips it of its natural oils.

My hair has no grease at all for 3 days. If I leave it for a 4th then it starts to look / feel a bit greasy. If your hair is looking greasy after a day that's not normal! The shampoo is doing it to you!

Incidentally did you know that if you use lip balm all the time your lips stop moisturising themselves and you start to "need" the lip balm to keep your lips moist.

spiderslegs · 23/07/2011 23:26

Yes, I feel absolutely gross & disgusting at least three days a week, sometimes I tone it down to gently vile or quietly repulsive.

Either way, the stench of flesh that hasn't seen water for 12 hours is quite repugnant.

I can't even bear the stink of my children sometimes, it's got better though, since I started bleaching them.

PumpkinBones · 23/07/2011 23:29

threefeethighandrising I know that's tru about lip balm, but seriously, I have tried to leave my hair, and it really makes no difference! My skin is oily, and I have a sweeping fringe...it's not a good combination!

threefeethighandrising · 23/07/2011 23:33

Personally I think it is a shocking waste of energy to shower every day, especially in Winter. It's really not necessary!

spiderslegs · 23/07/2011 23:36

Ok - my question is, would it be wrong, really wrong to open more wine?

I suspect I know the answer, but am willing to be persuaded.

spiderslegs · 23/07/2011 23:37

Arse - wrong thread - sorry cleansters.

& now you know why I only bathe three times a week.

AnyFucker · 23/07/2011 23:41

I can honestly say, in all my 45 years on this earth, I can count the stinky people I have met on the fingers of one hand

and most of them were tramps, or otherwise of very reduced circumstances

what does this tell us ?

threefeethighandrising · 23/07/2011 23:41

"I would feel absolutely disgusting if I didn't shower daily. I shower every morning and night although sometimes I will have a bath in the evening instead. You may not smell to bad without a daily bath or shower but don't you feel gross?"

I actually feel sorry for people who think this way about themselves. I think feeling like this is potentially quite unhealthy, psychologically.

I genuinely don't feel in the least bit gross if I haven't had a shower that day.
