Naggy and bossy at the same time. And so tribal.

I ask again, what has she done to improve her consituency during her time there?

Do you actually have any idea what an MP's job entails?

This might be useful.

Yes - LM is fantastic - a modern day politician representing all people.

Er.... I don't think that's true in any way!

How are Cameron's policies "anti-feminist"? Is "anti-feminist" the same as being "anti-women"?

Report
Malcontentinthemiddle · 20/07/2011 19:10

If you're anti-women, you're going to be hard pushed not to be anti-feminist. And being anti-women is the antithesis of anything feminist. So yes!

The WAY she is being criticised on here just shows how misogynistic her detractors are. A male politician would never be described in such a petty way, no matter how much he was disliked. People hate her because she's "bossy" and "strident". A man would be described as passionate and committed.

HH is imperfect like anyone, but the reason she is singled out for vitriol is that she is an unapologetic feminist (NOT the same thing as a man-hater) which the right-wing press hate - and which certain unintelligent people absorb without question.

A feminist is someone who believes in equality for women, which is what HH fights for. She can have any opinion she wants about marriage, it is neither here nor there. If you are against her and against her core message (eg - rape and domestic violence are bad!) you are against feminism and therefore against women and therefore you are a self-hating idiot. Shame.

tbf, Jane054848, I also call Cameron a cunt. I have seen him called all sorts on this board, similarly with other male MPs.
Seriously guys, cut the misogynist line - the reason people dislike her is nothing to do with her sex. It is because she is a particularly loathsome politician. She gives feminism a bad name.

This is the worst thread ever.

For those who are saying 'what has Harman ever done for us': women are now entitled to a year's maternity leave, the majority of it paid. This is a direct result of the last Labour governments, and Harman's part in them.

I am not a Labour voter, and as a feminist, I'm not even sure that such long maternity leaves are a good idea, but I'd imagine that the majority view on MN is that they are a good thing. Well, you've got Harman to thank while you are enjoying them.

Cameron's policies have disproportionately affected women.

The only reason they have affected women is because Labour's spent public money disproportinately on women, therefore cutting it back would naturally affect women more.

The small businesses who whinge about maternity rights for women making women "unemployable" are simply misogynists with no imagination or business sense. Frankly, they need to get a grip.
What if they are women?

Have you ever run a business? How do you propose businesses that barely get by manage to run when they have to pay women who take the piss by serially breeding ? It doesn't make any sense to employ someone who can take a year off whenever they feel like it, and the employer doesn't have a choice in the matter.

Don't get me started on women who complain about not being promoted when they've barely been at work for years.

Harman along with Brown and Blair formed an axis of ignorance and has done great damage to the country which will take years to repair.

CB - A years maternity pay does not equal bloody Nirvana -

And it only applies to women of child bearing age who are employed ( so self-employed women and women over 45 tough luck )
