Naggy and bossy at the same time. And so tribal.

YABU - I don't agree with all her views but she stands up for what she believes in and has done a great deal for women.

GotTheHump · 20/07/2011 17:01

dreadful woman

filthyfunkproject · 20/07/2011 17:01

She's the reason I turned away from feminism - the hypocritical self-serving cow is in it for herself - she's as fake as you can get.

VictorGollancz · 20/07/2011 17:01

YABU.

I love her. She is a front-bench big-name politician who unashamedly and unswervingly puts women at the centre of her political life. No other politician comes close, except perhaps Yvette Cooper.

She's a great benchmark for everday associations - I usually find that if someone really has a deep and meaningful problem with the existence of Harriet Harman, then that person isn't really worth bothering with. And they feel the same way about me, so they're happy too. Thanks, Harriet!

OTheHugeManatee · 20/07/2011 17:04

It started with Blair. Blair created a new criminal offence for every day he was in power. Stupid, pettifogging, interfering, micromanaging offences, most of them. That attitude was the thing I hated most about New Labour, and I hate Harman's adherence to it along with anyone other politician who takes the same approach.

I agree with Bandito - too few of them have spent time working in normal business jobs. Instead they start out as lawyers or policy wonks, and that unholy combination means a firm belief that the good society can and shall be a product of the right legislation combined with the right social engineering. I don't think that's right, and I don't think it works.

piloi · 20/07/2011 17:06

YANBU I highly irritating woman who fails to accept responsibility for the dire situation that her and the rest of the Labour Party havecreated.

filthyfunkproject · 20/07/2011 17:14

I'm not sure why she's being discussed - she hasn't got power any more ( thank god ) intelligent females with a grip on reality have taken over - MP's like Louise Mensch - she's brilliant.

DaisyHayes · 20/07/2011 17:25

A quick scan of the posts so far see Harman described as:

Naggy
Bossy
Tribal
Horrible
Whining
Odious
Self-serving (x2)
Dreadful
Hypocritical
Cow
Highly irritating

Bloody hell. And in the face of all this vitriol, Harman just keeps plugging away at trying to improve things for women.

I don't care if you find her "unlikeable" or have reservations about how she is trying to achieve her aims. Calling her these sort of names is really not on. Especially when she is someone who is on our side.

piloi · 20/07/2011 17:29

"Harman just keeps plugging away at trying to improve things for women."

Well shes not achieved anything yet maybe she should go and do something else

DaisyHayes · 20/07/2011 17:32

Yeah. Let's replace her with Dominique Strauss-Kahn. It'll be great.

grovel · 20/07/2011 17:33

He's a better economist than Harriet.

OP posts:
filthyfunkproject · 20/07/2011 17:35

She's on my side is she?

This 'feminist' who described marriage as 'irrelevant' - I could link you hours of left wing crap that gobshite has come out with - she's not on my side - never has been and never will be.

grovel · 20/07/2011 17:37

Daisy, you can add gobshite to your list. To balance it I'll add that she's fragrant. Possibly.

OP posts:
ManicMiner · 20/07/2011 17:38

She's a man-basher. One of the main reasons why hardly any WWC men vote Labour nowadays. Quotas are not the way to achieve anything. If she wants more female MPs how about she finds some women that people want to vote for?

DaisyHayes · 20/07/2011 17:39

I dont understand why you called her "this 'feminist'".

Of course she's a feminist.

ManicMiner · 20/07/2011 17:39

"Bloody hell. And in the face of all this vitriol, Harman just keeps plugging away at trying to improve things for women."

What women has she improved things for?

DaisyHayes · 20/07/2011 17:43

You don't have to agree with her politics. You don't have to agree with her strategies. That goes without saying.

But I think the aggressive, personal name calling is really uncalled for.

Especially if you belong to the group which she has pretty much devoted her working life to protect and promote the rights of.

udupper · 20/07/2011 17:43

She's a moron who along with her chums has left the country swirling in the carsy

DaisyHayes · 20/07/2011 17:45

ManicMiner Wed 20-Jul-11 17:39:46
"What women has she improved things for?"

Ummm...she's long been fighting to improve things for women affected by rape and domestic violence.

That do you?

OTheHugeManatee · 20/07/2011 17:47

"Bloody hell. And in the face of all this vitriol, Harman just keeps plugging away at trying to improve things for women."

And as I said I dislike her methods. People do all kinds of foolish or misguided things in the name of some 'good cause' or other. Just because Harman is 'trying to improve things for women' doesn't automatically earn her my respect or liking.

aliceliddell · 20/07/2011 17:47

anybody who takes the time to point out they don't like HH is no friend of feminism. HH takes women's rights seriously, if you really believe Louise 'I lurve my husband' whatsername does the same just watch what she does to parental leave, childcare, child benefit, social housing, public sector jobs, social care, equalities legislation, pensions etc, etc. If you think they're not women's issues, wait and see. Maybe read anything published by the Fawcett Society? Just off to get tyhe bingo cards out - wimmin, Harperson, on their own merits, best person for the job, yawn...

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 20/07/2011 17:49

I don't like her and don't agree with her on many issues, but some of the comments on here are pathetic.

'Naggy and bossy.' Pure misogynist crap. When would you ever describe a male politician as naggy or bossy? For most of the critics on here the fact that she describes herself as a feminist is enough to rile them.

This thread is drawing out the idiots who've already ticked the 'feminist = man-hater' box.

ManicMiner · 20/07/2011 17:50

How has she improved things for the average women?

She's an MP. Half of her constituency are men, shouldn't she be working for them as well?

Sorry but I think she is an idiot. Ideologically bigoted and without a clue of the kind of damage she is doing.

filthyfunkproject · 20/07/2011 17:51

A true feminist would not undermine marriage by calling it irrelevant - She's well know for her hatred of men, even questioning whether fathers are necessary at all fgs - she's a feminist fascist who wants to destroy the traditional family - she's actually quite dangerous and really shouldn't be in politics.

likale · 20/07/2011 17:51

YANBU She has improved the lives of some women, unfortunately she's done this by racking up debts that the women of the next three generations are going to have to pay off
