Naggy and bossy at the same time. And so tribal.

The Fawcett society is a feminist group. Hardly unbiased.

I ask again, what basis do they have for this 94% of alleged rapists being guilty figure? What do they have that the courts do not?

Are they asking the men accused and having 94% of them admit to having done it?

TheRealTillyMinto · 22/07/2011 15:43

TD so what percentage do you think are false?

TartyDoris · 22/07/2011 15:44

Just looking at the Fawcett site. Front page, quote "Our worse fears are being realised ? the number of women unemployed is at a record high."

More men are unemployed than women, both by number and percentage.

I don't even know where to start with people that believe this stuff. I think they're a lost cause tbh.

LineRunner · 22/07/2011 15:44

Peanut. Hi. You are absolutely spot on about making sure our sons understand about consent.

DontCallMePeanut · 22/07/2011 15:44

It's not just the Fawcett Society. It's plenty of charities, government bodies, police reports...

Good grief, no wonder Dittany is taking a break. What I wouldn't give to have her back here, right now...

DontCallMePeanut · 22/07/2011 15:45

Thank you, linerunner. It's something I'll make sure DS understands fully once he's old enough. Ironic, considering he's the product of rape...

TartyDoris · 22/07/2011 15:45

"TD so what percentage do you think are false?"
I have absolutely no idea, nor does anyone else. The only people that know whether any individual rape claim is true or false are the two people involved. If anyone can explain otherwise, I'd be happy to hear how.

"Well, considering the 94% statistic is from the Stern report set out by the government and the Met and the Federation of Police officers agree with the conclusion that 94% of accused rapists are guilty, I'd suggest that you are the one who is wrong."
The government and police probably just agree to that to shut the likes of the Fawcett people up.

Can you explain how the figures were actually collatted to come up with the 94% statistic?

And why are people trusting the government and the Met, after all that has happened recently?

Peanut. You have been through a lot.

My son is young teenager and we have had some very good talks over the last couple of years. Never too young to start, really.

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 22/07/2011 15:49

Is there any other crime where people would assume without any evidence that the vast majority of people reporting it to the police are not telling the truth?

TheRealTillyMinto · 22/07/2011 15:51

crikey that is worth repeating itsnt it:

Once again, men are more likely to be raped by other men than falsely accused of rape.

so to the parents who worry about their son's being accused of rape, actually you should be more concerned about them being victims of rape.

LineRunner · 22/07/2011 15:51

Which is why, to bring it back to the OP (!), HH is such an important figure.

TartyDoris · 22/07/2011 15:52

I don't assume anything. I just think it is ridiculous for anyone to state statistics that have no logical way of being proven to be correct. How do they come up with this 94% figure? How do they know that 6% are false? Where is this data coming from?

LineRunner · 22/07/2011 15:53

TheRealTillyMinto, I get it! I get it!

I'm making sure that my son knows what consent is so that he doesn't put a girl through a shitty experience.

Important to who? Feminists?

She turns off far more people, men and women alike, from Labour than she attracts. She's a liability. She should leave Labour and get a job with the Fawcett society or some other organisation, that way she can fight her causes without defrauding her constituents that she should be working on behalf of.

This is my last word on the subject. I hate getting pissed off about stuff on the internet but this thread has really upset me.

Thank you, linerunner. I realised not too long ago that we never covered the issue of consent in high school, and as far as I remember, never discussed it as a family either. If I can't trust the schools, then DS needs me to make it crystal clear. :)

ELNP, Not that I can think of... Y'know... You don't see people saying "oh, he might be lying... x might not have been murdered, etc"... Even when I reported xP for DV, the police officers believed me from the start... Although my family were on hand for a handy dose of DV minimising...

SWC, thank you for pointing that out. Depressing to think TD previously identified as a feminist...

SGM, so I assume that means income support, etc are not included in unemployment stats; just JSA?
