AIBU to shoplift from Superdrug?

sassyminder · 18/07/2011 22:04

I have been using this cream eye shadow for ages. I can find it only on Superdrug.
First it was from one company that does not make it anymore so I had to move on to another more expensive..3x more expensive...anyway I was happily buiyng it always when I neede but could not bring myself to stock it because would feel guilty as the thingy is nearly £15 (it is a small round pot of eye cream shadow!)
Anyway, last time I went to Superdrug just to buy it as I was runing out, and could not find my colour...so I asked the lady who works in the make up session if there was any similar product from other maker and she said, no there wasnt and that maker would also stop making that product and they would not receive NONE anymore...it is all finished.
I could not help myself, I mean..I helped myself with the tester one that was there intacted...opened but new...
Now, it looks like I am the only person in the world who likes that thing doesn't it?

How pale is the lightest one - does anyone know? Ivory or Porcelein (sp)?

YABVU. There is no excuse for stealing anything. As it is, you have done, so I reckon you should give a fiver or more to charity, and resolve never to do it again.

valiumredhead · 19/07/2011 15:08

Thank you :)

LDNmummy · 19/07/2011 15:22

OMgoodness me!!! Ha hahahahahahaha! The comments from the fuddy duddy types on here are making me laugh Grin

E.g: "YABVVVVVVVVVU! Did you know that when you shoplift prices go up and the whole economy stalls because shops have to recoup losses but no one can afford to buy the product anymore because it costs a bajillion pounds?" OR "It wastes the shops time and the staff become imobile in front of CCTV footage till they catch the perpatrator of such a heinous offence to our captalist nation! How dareth thee U wench!"

I worked in retail and customer service from the age of 14 till a couple of years ago. These are all myths my luvvies, please do get over it. The big companies are the real criminals to begin with because their products cost pennies to make and are sold on at 1000 times the original cost. You are all very niave if you really believe that shops mark up the prices of products because of thieves, they use it as an excuse to mark up prices or justify already extortionate prices.

Here's another doozy for all those not in the know. Shops up their standard prices of certain products just shortly before sale periods so they can mark them down to their originally stated RRP and say the product is on sale when in fact you are paying the same as before.

Of course this does not apply to all shops or sale items, but the products they flog cost so little to make in the first place that they are still making an astounding profit from sale items anyway.

I am talking about your standard big high street shops BTW, not little independent stores and the like.

Excuse spelling and grammar, that was written very quickly.

OracleInaCoracle · 19/07/2011 15:35

Ldnmummy, well in that case the op is in the right Hmm I'd rather be a fuddy duddy and have some morals tbh.

Re ERASE PASTE (sorry to shout) - I'm super pale (a red head) and I use the palest one and it matches me really well. Also, I apply it with my finger, the spoon type affair is a bit superfluous.

For red bits (as I'm so pale these bits show up) I use a green concealer stick, boots natural or 17 do them, they just look like concealer.. but green! Under foundation obviously.. otherwise you'd look like an alien.

MugglesandLuna · 19/07/2011 16:51

LDNmummy - YABU!

Serenitysutton · 19/07/2011 16:53

This is just daft though- you know there is no more available so when this runs out you will have to change eyeshadow. Why not just change now? You're only prolonging the agony.

LDNmummy · 19/07/2011 16:58

Yes lissie but thats the point, these companies are using your moral high ground to extort money from you.

And is it really moralistic to be buying these products when many are manufactured and produced using slave labour or animal testing in the first place? (obviously not all products on the high street, but more than enough)

I would rather steal from the company than hand over my hard earned money for overpriced slave labour produce thanks. Each way has its flaws and I don't see one as being better than the other at all.

The only time I would say otherwise is where small and honest businesses and innocent individuals are actually affected through theft and personal theft IYSWIM.

LDNmummy · 19/07/2011 17:00

Yes Muggles, I really feel unreasonable for not buying into capitalist bull crappy.

LDNmummy · 19/07/2011 17:03

Damn straight Shirley Grin

I'm in a very buoyant mood today so it may come across in my posts Smile

TheOriginalFAB · 19/07/2011 17:06

You committed a crime because you wanted something. What did you plan to do once you had used all that one up? It was pointless as it bought you a few more days being able to use that colour. I wonder about some people, really.

OracleInaCoracle · 19/07/2011 17:07

Ldnmummy, you really are being ridulous. Theft is wrong. Like it or not, and justify it all you want, but it is wrong. Whether its from a market stall or harrods,

I use an eyeshadow to hide my dark circles, though not a white one thats a tad weird, no, I use a mineral eyeshadow from lily lolo, its yellow based and works very well. Cant remember how I found out it could be used for that, but I did read it somewhere or saw it ,didnt just come across it myself. Only a fiver and lasts ages.
Slightly intrigued about concealer triangle now....off to S&B

LDNmummy · 19/07/2011 18:03

lissie I never said it wasn't wrong. But I do see theft from personal individuals (mugging, pick pocketting etc..), or theft from innocent businesses and small companies as worse than theft from large corporations.

But as it stands, the large companies steal from people so I don't care if people steal from them. What individuals steal from big companies is a drop in the bucket compared to the crimes they commit against individuals in the form of theft, deciet and exploitation.

The fact that plenty of big high street companies are failing to fairly pay tax right now should be evidence enough of how their theft is on a much larger scale and genuinely affects us all.

sassyminder · 19/07/2011 21:30

People would send me to jail here if they could.
Well, I explained before that it was just a spur of the moment I am not gonna die or loose my mind if the product is discontinued or I if I never find something similar.
At least a got few good tips on make up here thanks.
