Well, that jam sponge page was a bit of an eye openere before breakfast Grin

Camerondiazepam · 28/06/2011 09:45

Ha, I am practically sponsored by White Stuff and I am often to be caught in possession of sun protection and healthy snacks. But am in no way droopy until I take off my construction grade bra so nerrr.

fatlazymummy · 28/06/2011 10:07

Now I've had to google white stuff.
Looks fine to me, though rather pricy.
Have heard of the 'jam sponge' thing before, though they weren't called that. Women in the sex industry sometimes use sponges so that they can carry on working while on their periods.

notwavingjustironing · 28/06/2011 10:11

I bought some pretend Birkies in Aldi last week. AND they are white.

MilaMae · 28/06/2011 10:52

I have silver Birkies and ahem my long haired boys have Birkies in the summer,I also wear White Stuff, and I have a rucksack. Hassled rings a bell but not droopy.

I am aware I may need to update myself a tad in the style dep but comfort and age(40s).......what does one wear instead?????

MamaG · 28/06/2011 11:30

Interesting that a lot assume that Birkenstock refuseniks wear strappy high heeled sandals. There ARE alternatives know Wink

Today I'm in silver flip flops. Padded toe post for comfort. Can walk for miles

MamaG · 28/06/2011 11:32

I do typos so often I don't usually correct after but I MUST just clarify that that was supposed to be y'know - I didn't put know instead if now

Adair · 28/06/2011 11:34

(I think it's more a reflection on why Birkies wearers stick to the safe option... it's a freakin' minefield out there this fashion lark...)

Insomnia11 · 28/06/2011 11:35

Birkenstocks were very in about six years ago, I have no idea as to their fashion status now!

I tried some on in their traditional style in 2005 and found them about as comfortable as standing on a cardboard box. I don't get on with toe posts generally though as well. Everyone's feet are different anyway. I generally get Merrells as they are soft and flexible soles and look quite pretty (IMO) whilst being very comfortable.

I have these in red:

They are sort of toe post ish but don't catch between my toes like some shoes do.

Sorry, I always forget to tick the link box!

ZZZenAgain · 28/06/2011 11:38

quite like those Swedish hasbeens. Bit clumpy but still quite like them

am a birkie refusenik - only indoors if at all for me

Fimbo · 28/06/2011 11:38

But MamaG didn't you get Birkies from somewhere (Ebay/freecycle) and they were blue and clog type? Wink

I cannot wear flipflops, the toe thing drives me mad.

Birkies are for homewear only, I have Clarks sandals that are really great, they don't seem to be available anymore.

And recently bought a pair of Glagla ballerina/sneakers. I need something for walking longer distances that don't look horrible with cropped trousers or shorts.

Adair · 28/06/2011 13:02

Ah well, here comes the rain so this debate is now redundant.

melikalikimaka · 28/06/2011 13:21

What the hell are they? Sandals that look like scholls. Hated them. Don't wear anything that reminds me of middle age, eg clarks

So no, I probably wouldn't be happy to wear them.

Quenelle · 28/06/2011 13:24

I bought my Mayaris when I was pg and had incredibly swollen feet. There was absolutely nothing else I could fit my elephantine feet into from 22 weeks on.

I'm still wearing them two years later though. For work I like a Fly London wedge. They go well with my White Stuff A-line skirt.

melikalikimaka · 28/06/2011 13:28

You don't have to spend that much for comfortable sandals, the ones I have on were £5.99 from the market. I have had compliments about them, so they they don't look as bad as you would imagine.

heleninahandcart · 28/06/2011 14:48

Will someone please show me what the penis ones are? This is new territory as I'm a Fitflop Mum i.e. trying to pretend they are not thick and ugly but can't survive without them

Prettycandles Velcro in all your sandals 3/4 length custom orthotics. 'Tis the only way to go

LittleBoxes · 28/06/2011 15:00

penis ones, I presume.

LittleBoxes · 28/06/2011 15:00

(I am not a fan)

charliejosh · 28/06/2011 15:07

hmmmmm, used to like birkies but have seem too many minging feet in them to want to wear them myself anymore.

I am a havaianas girl these days - comfiest flippies I have ever had!

JanMorrow · 28/06/2011 15:12

I've worn birkenstocks for a few years (pre and post baby), probably started at the age of 26 and I don't fit into any of the criteria in the first post. I've always had pretty ones though.. but I do own a bronze pair which are a bit more plain.. but I don't care. They're comfy. HOORAY!

JanMorrow · 28/06/2011 15:13

And actually yes, I've swapped to havainanas now instead of birkenstocks too!
