I love LOVE LOVE mine. I have many different styles. They are wonderful. Better than wedges and heels anyday of the week. They are cool because they are not prissy and try hard. At least we wearers should avoid painful foot surgery too when we are old from shoving out trotters into fashion shoes so we aren't judged harshly. Honestly get over yourself.

Lipstickgal · 26/06/2011 17:10

Not wearing....ruddy ipad.

Pumpernickelcuntychops · 26/06/2011 17:11

I will say comfort is paramount always :) can't remember the last time I wore heels

diabolo · 26/06/2011 17:13

The only person I know who wears Birkenstocks is my ultra glamorous, boob-jobbed, botoxxed, looks-perfect-all-the-time SIL! She wears different coloured pairs depending on her outfit, from April until October Grin

She doesn't fit any of your criteria OP!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 26/06/2011 17:15

Don't mind Birkenstocks - my sister lives in them and she is ultra glamourous. HOwver, anyone wearing Crocs aka care in the community shoes are just awful on anyone over the age of about 6.

LadyPeterWimsey · 26/06/2011 17:15

Ok, need to be sure here. Which are the penis-y ones?

[pathetic Fitflop wearer who nonetheless needs clarification so she can judge Birkie wearers]

DarftApeth · 26/06/2011 17:16

I'd love to be able to wear pretty little flat flip-flops/sandals (and I do occasionally) but I'm like candles. I get crippled if I wear flat soled shoes too much.

So for me birkies enable me to be pain free. It's just tough if they offend anyone, I don't really care.

Lipstickgal · 26/06/2011 17:20

What exactly is a ' droopy mom ' while we're about it?

PuppyMonkey · 26/06/2011 17:26

MN has slagged off virtually everything you could possibly wear at some point. If you like them, wear them. Who gives a toss what MamaG's opinion is, I'm sure she doesn't give toss about anyone else's. No offence etc.

GetOrf · 26/06/2011 17:27

I agree wuth MamaG - they are bloody horrible.

Why would your buy german orthopaedic sandles?

They look like the scholl sandles my gran used to wear to water her hanging baskets.

GetOrf · 26/06/2011 17:30

I cannot wear anything which goes between your toes

Wear gladiatorish things. Or wedges. Or tan sandals. Or high heels.

Not chiropody shoes.

PuppyMonkey · 26/06/2011 17:34

See I think people look daft in gladiator sandals, therefore I decree everyone should stop wearing them. I saw a woman wearing gladiator sandals once last year in July and she looked really miserable. And my granny looked at a pair once.

huffythethreadslayer · 26/06/2011 17:36

I have plantar fasciitis, so have to wear support shoes/sandals. I therefore wear Birkis because I have little choice if I don't want to be in pain.

FabbyChic · 26/06/2011 17:37

I own three pairs, I wear them with combats, and maxi skirts, and I'm far from droopy. They are the only open toed shoes I will wear, I have a pair of three strapped silver ones, clog types in funky pink and white, and toed ones also in a pink/white floral pattern.

My toe nails are painted too.

sillybillies · 26/06/2011 17:38

what about, 'really bad back with sciatica' and the birkinstocks are the only things that are really comfy.

Should have seen the clarks Granny shoes I wore all winter - dread to think what you would of thought of them. Actually, don't dread, don't care. As long as I'm in less pain, coudn't give a toss.

GetOrf · 26/06/2011 17:39

painted toenails you debauched bastard Grin

piratecat · 26/06/2011 17:40

no, i am a funky mummy, have silver ones, cerise ones and white ones. one bar type, no toe posts (don't like those).

Birki Relax.

they are cool.

foxinsocks · 26/06/2011 17:42

I thought I'd never wear crocs until I tried their croc flip flops. They are the most comfortable pair of flip flops I have ever worn

I have birkies but the ones with patterns on - they aren't Birkenstocks but a similar brand with the one strap. They are great!

But nothing, nothing, beats the comfiness of these croc flip flops

becknotts · 26/06/2011 17:45

Love my Birkenstocks, can walk for miles in them and get to laugh at all the stupid fashion victims with plasters on their heels and toes limping around town and country.

ledkr · 26/06/2011 17:45

havs are far nicer tho and birkies do make your legs look a tad chunky me thinks.

TimeWasting · 26/06/2011 17:47

Love Birkies.

I was at a very cool conference a few years ago and have never seen so many Birkies all at once. Arty, dancers, computer geeks etc.
Perhaps you are seeing these stereotypes because these are the people you spend time with? Grin

alistron1 · 26/06/2011 17:52

"" hassled i didnt have time to brush my hair" slighy hippy mum (with long haired kids)"

Shit, that's me.

But today I'm not in birks - I've moved onto plimsolls. Old skool white ones.

Might wear me birks to school tomorrow.

*note to self - shave toes.

TimeWasting · 26/06/2011 18:00

I don't brush my hair, it's curly.

Pumpernickelcuntychops · 26/06/2011 18:01

Croc flip flops are nice I will admit got some in red
