The bloody children haven't even bloody broken up yet and the shops are full of "Back to School" stuff. Was in M&S today trying to buy shorts for Ds for HOLIDAYS and there was a woman with armfuls of new school unifrom, everything down to knickers and socks and I just wanted to yell at her for being insufferably smug and oganised!
anything I buy for DS now isn't going to fit him in 8 weeks anyway - do nobody else's children actually grow over the summer???

There's never anything left by July here. Found perfect grey trousers for dd in Asda today but none big enough for her. With 2 kids to buy for I need to start early.

queenmaeve · 25/06/2011 22:14

YANBU I refuse to look at school stuff untill the last week of August.

I'll buy Toad's in the last week of school while he's still in school mode.

6 weeks of no routine make him hell to live with (ASD) and shopping is a no-go zone.

blushingm · 25/06/2011 22:16

there's 20% off all uniform in m & s and most sizes will be there

giraffesCantZumba · 25/06/2011 22:18

I couldnt care less. Maybe they going on holiday or something later in hols.

piprabbit · 25/06/2011 22:18

20% off and Free delivery at M&S online.

Better than waiting to everywhere has sold out in August.

psiloveyou · 25/06/2011 22:20

I've got 5 to buy for. Three of them are starting new schools so complete new uniforms needed. I started a few weeks ago.
I like to spread the cost plus we are going on holiday the last two weeks of August so I need to be sorted before then.
Putting off the nightmare trip to Clarkes for shoes though. I dread that.

troisgarcons · 25/06/2011 22:20

Bought mine today

borderslass · 25/06/2011 22:21

I used to always leave it to last minute and struggle to get clothes to fit but the last couple of years I bought early for them. This year I don't need to buy thankfully.

snicker · 25/06/2011 22:21

YABU

M&S always sell uniform cheaper this time of year than during the school holidays. They used to have 3 for 2 on everything. Why should people pay 25% more and struggle to get the sizes by leaving it until August?

GypsyMoth · 25/06/2011 22:21

Come and smack me then.......... Not my fault you aren't organised!!

ChaoticAngelinLimbo · 25/06/2011 22:21

I'm soooooooo glad I don't have to worry about this any more Grin

SixtyFootDoll · 25/06/2011 22:22

Yabu, what difference does it make to you?

uggmum · 25/06/2011 22:23

I am feeling very smug. I purchased all the school uniform for sept, 3 weeks ago. It's all neatly folded in a drawer. Including socks.

The only items I will need to buy are school shoes, which I will do in Aug.

I don't need to puchase anything for my holidays as I did all that in Feb.

M0naLisa · 25/06/2011 22:24

I shall be buying all of DS' new uniforms end of august.

shineoncrazydiam0nd · 25/06/2011 22:25

Does it actually make a difference to you?

I'd suggest you become better organised Wink

NonnoMum · 25/06/2011 22:25

I want to smack people who are smug enough to be able to afford a summer holiday.

There, feel better?

Niecie · 25/06/2011 22:27

YABU

I want to make sure I spread the cost so I am starting now. DS1 starts secondary in September and needs brand new everything so it will be massively expensive. Plus that is a lot to buy and it would be a nightmare to try and cram it all into a couple of weeks at the end of the holidays and we are away anyway.

If everybody did as you were suggesting then the school kit shop would have to be open 24/7 because they are flat out the entire summer holidays as it is and you can barely get through the door. I can think of better ways of spending the summer hols than standing in a queue in there!

And no, my children don't grow that quickly any more. They aren't babies and even if they did have a spurt I am not daft enough to buy things that have no growing room.

Sounds like you have a bit of a chip on your shoulders that somebody happened to think a few weeks ahead and you didn't.

dementedma · 25/06/2011 22:28

doesn't make any difference to me,just commenting is all Grin
Mine will break up next week, will buy his stuff in early August, ready for going back mid August. Plenty organised.
Two older DDs now left school, but it still worked when I had 3 to buy for.
I just like to have a break from all the school stuff.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 25/06/2011 22:28

i have already bought DS's trousers.
Am extremely miffed to find out that his tshirt and jumper is only available via the school and his uniform is yellow. Yellow is fucking impossible to find in generic shops.
I'd consider transferring him but can't be arsed.

Agree with poster that said buy in next size up.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 25/06/2011 22:29

Ohh dementedma dont worry the back to school stuff will be gone in a few weeks and it'll be Christmas stuff then! Grin

dementedma · 25/06/2011 22:30

nonnomum if that was aimed at me, you missed Grin
can't afford a holiday here other than hanging about and days out.

OP posts:
shineoncrazydiam0nd · 25/06/2011 22:30

I have one just staring primary and one in Secondary. Both schools insist on the school logo on polo shirts AND jumpers. With shoes, book bag, ruck sack etc etc... their uniforms cost me around £400. I start now and do it over two months as a rule.

Never occurred to me that it may annoy someone else, tbh

LordOfTheFlies · 25/06/2011 22:31

When I was at school ( more years ago than I care to remember) I used to hate it when one week before the end of the holidays the Back to School signs were up.Bastard signs, so smug and gloating.

Obviously never thought of my poor mother having to organise 3 sets of uniform.Last year I bought DCs uniform before end of termBlush
