to want to smack people buying school uniform?

The bloody children haven't even bloody broken up yet and the shops are full of "Back to School" stuff. Was in M&S today trying to buy shorts for Ds for HOLIDAYS and there was a woman with armfuls of new school unifrom, everything down to knickers and socks and I just wanted to yell at her for being insufferably smug and oganised!
anything I buy for DS now isn't going to fit him in 8 weeks anyway - do nobody else's children actually grow over the summer???

OP posts:
CocktailQueen · 26/06/2011 19:06

I'd rather order now and not have to scrabble around in Aug looking for anything they have left!!! And M&S has 20% off at the moment....

youarekidding · 26/06/2011 19:10

My DS doesn't grow - bless him Grin

Last year started buying early in next size up - so got a size 5-6. He has just grown into them Hmm. He starts juniors in Sept so holding fire as I'm wondering if he'll have a growth spirt before then.

I will however get his new jumpers, PE kit, polos/shirts before then but thats so I have more money in Augest for ice-creams etc.

His shoes he got January - am I a really awful mum to send him back if them if they fit? (they're clarks)

youarekidding · 26/06/2011 19:18

I can order online Shock

Last year did this with logoed stuff from schooloutlet shop but I can do this from M&S for the rest?

I usually get supermarket but agree not much price difference and theres a discount. Grin

Oh so doing that. Thanks everyone.

craftynclothy · 26/06/2011 19:21

I'm saving myself the hassle of having my mum phone every day to see if I've got x/y/z for school yet by buying it nice and early.

Lots of stuff in M&S is as cheap as the supermarkets atm. I know we got a 2pk of shorts (for PE) for £4 and pumps (for PE) for £2.

I got a few bits from Asda and Sainsburys and a lot of stuff from this year will still fit her (she's been wearing uniform to nursery at the same school). My kids don't grow much at all Grin

Now...grey tights? Everywhere seems to do 3-4 and 5-6. I could really do with 4-5yrs as they seemed to shrink quickly in the length last year but dd is far too skinny to size up for that. Or perhaps 3-4 that don't shrink too much? Anyone?

Nanny0gg · 26/06/2011 19:55

They make you buy it now so that they can keep up the sales figures which have dropped because of recession/nothing left of summer stock/people bored with summer stock.
Then all the C*s stock will come in in September.

If people didn't strip the shelves in June there would be plenty left in at the end of August when you'll actually know what size you want.

It's all done earlier every year.
Ever felt manipulated?

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 26/06/2011 20:15

Sizes stay better at M & S too- we've always had Asda polos, but lately found after 2 washes its miles shorter than it should be, and loads wider too. M & S polos are really nice quality, and stay the way they started too.

clemetteattlee · 26/06/2011 20:25

Thank OP, just placed my order with Asda online before those lovely dresses with the bows on the front sell out (again).

Fimbo · 26/06/2011 20:35

Points bum at OP and bends over for a smack. Grin

20% off in M & S. 2 pairs of trousers and 2 polo shirts for £9.80 what's not to like? Rest of ds's school uniform has been ordered for school and wish it would hurry up, so I can get started on the labelling so it's out the way for summer.

Have also bought his bag and coloured pencils etc.

Funtimewincies · 26/06/2011 20:36

Nope YABU. Ds1 is the only school in the area with yellow polo shirts. The shops only get a small number in and that's it, no more. If I don't buy them now (and I can pretty well guess what size he'll need) I'll have to order them online and pay as much postage as for the shirts themselves.

cory · 26/06/2011 21:15

We have to, because we go abroad in the summer (returning home) and by the time we get back there is nothing left in the shops.

StealthPolarBear · 26/06/2011 22:22

thanks altinkum, got the ones you suggest - just expected the "Boys' polo shirts" link to link to...well, boys' polo shirts :o

ratspeaker · 26/06/2011 22:48

I used to find certain sizes sold out quickly so had to grab them whilst still available and cheap so I'd be ther ein the shops at this time of year
Plus didnt want to spend the school holidays trying to shop

and the schools go back in mid August in Scotland, break up before 1st week July

blushingm · 26/06/2011 23:07

crafty - debenhams school tights are small fitting - dd has aged 7 ones but in m & s it's 5-6. she's 5 (just)

VivaLeBeaver · 26/06/2011 23:10

I waited till end of august one year. Went to asda and it was full of Halloween stuff, no uniform.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/06/2011 23:12

Dh has had three guesses,

Front bottom
Woman's knob end
Clitoris.

Hmmmmm.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/06/2011 23:13

Wrong thread, sorry.

schroeder · 27/06/2011 09:19

nice one beaver Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 27/06/2011 10:15

I do wish there was a delete button at times. DH was crying with laughter at my panic last night when I realised what I'd done.

weblette · 27/06/2011 10:20

That's a spectacular wrong thread Beaver Grin think there must be some award Grin

OP YABU - we're away all Summer and I would far rather do it now when the school shop I have to get their stuff in is quiet and not crammed with people who've left it to the last minute....

mummyofonegirl · 27/06/2011 10:49

i applaud those who are that organised. I obviously need to get move on

aquashiv · 27/06/2011 10:58

I have twin boys and they are all out of their sizes in a couple of shops already. So for me with slightly unusual colours then I would be a ejit to leave it to the last minute.

ErinGoBraLess · 27/06/2011 10:59

If anyone has a Very account they have a sale on at the moment. I bought some shorts for ds, dresses and cardi's for dd and a pair of basic school shoes reduced to £4 from £16. It might be worth having a gander? www.very.co.uk/fashion-end-of-season-sale-view-all/e/b/12519/s/price,0/promo/71200049.end?trail=2249-2325-12519
