to want to smack people buying school uniform?

The bloody children haven't even bloody broken up yet and the shops are full of "Back to School" stuff. Was in M&S today trying to buy shorts for Ds for HOLIDAYS and there was a woman with armfuls of new school unifrom, everything down to knickers and socks and I just wanted to yell at her for being insufferably smug and oganised!
anything I buy for DS now isn't going to fit him in 8 weeks anyway - do nobody else's children actually grow over the summer???

It is annoying to see the "Back to School" posters everywhere during the school hols!

Also annoying that seemingly if you don't buy in July you can't buy anything much during the year as its no longer in stock...

However, thanks to this thread I just put in an M&S order at the discounted rate!

SaryLiz · 26/06/2011 15:38

I buy anything I can when it is on offer. If you can afford not to you are lucky!

AgonyBeetle · 26/06/2011 15:47

Any extra stuff I need for September I will buy next week from the second-hand uniform stall at the school summer fair. 50p an item. Job done.

mrsbiscuits · 26/06/2011 16:18

I am quite impressed with this level of organisation, to be honest. Not really up to it myself and even if I was I usually find DS grows about an inch over the summer and everything's too small come September.

5inthebed · 26/06/2011 16:20

I can never buy uniforms early as both Ds1 and DS2 have growth spurts during the summer holidays, and I've no idea what size they will be, so I have no choice but to wait it out.

howabout · 26/06/2011 16:35

YABU
I have just bought everything on M&S discount 1-2 sizes up before the schools break up. I did it online so as not to disrupt your retail experience and I stayed out of the shops yesterday sewing on nametapes.
Now I can put my feet up and enjoy the holidays and keep the DCs and myself out of the shops as much as possible.
If only the shoe shops would stock school shoes when I want / need them. Both DDs look like urchins with worn out shoes, but no proper shoe stock at the moment, just summer sandals which are pretty pointless in the perpetual rain where I live.

YABU
I used to think about it in August and found there was sod all left in the bastard shops, I've cottoned on now!
DS doesn't 'do' shopping so sitting at my PC with glass of wine cup of tea, getting it delivered to my door at 20% off makes sense to me. Then once they've broken up I can forget about school till they go back.

JaneBennet · 26/06/2011 17:37

I'm another one that prefers to do now and get it over with. I've been buying all the bits and pieces over the last couple of weeks. We'll be away until a few days before school starts and would prefer not to have to rush out and buy anything once we get back.

dementedma · 26/06/2011 18:21

interesting that M&S seems the preferred supplier - I can't afford it. Does anyone else use the supermarkets or is that considered too chavvy on here?

DD always has a growing spurt over summer, I wouldn't dare buy anything so far in advance!

Also, she is so skinny the shop stuff doesn't fit and now I have to make it myself, so lots of elasticated waist skirts in this house.

SauvignonBlanche · 26/06/2011 18:28

I found M&S to last longer so were therefore cheaper.

dementedma · 26/06/2011 18:29

sorry, the chavvy wasn't a dig. i get pissed off at the comments on here sometimes about shopping in Asda etc, but for those of us who can't afford elsewhere it's a godsend. In my OP I mentioned being in M&S to buy shorts but it was only because a friend of my mother's gave me voucher for £15 - luxury Smile
I buy polo shirts, socks, pants, gym shoes etc in Asda - girls used to get trousers in New Look. thank god they have left school now.
biggest problem with supermarkets is they don't fit chubby kids - have to get DS's trousers in school outfitters but still won't be doing it until end of July at the earliest. Plenty of time then for me.

Sorry if I offend you OP but I have already bought next terms uniform from M&S. I am not sure why you find it offensive that other mums buy their children's uniform early? It is obvious that my kids will need a bigger size for Sept as they grow (as do most children) throughout the summer. It's a no brainer really.

I have always bought Sept's uniform in June. I have never had a problem with the uniform not fitting when they go back to school.

OP why are you miffed about this??

Mamaz0n · 26/06/2011 18:36

DS is 10. He wears size 14-15 clothes though.

Although he has school jumpers with the logo on, i also like to get him a couple of the generic non logo'd ones.

However as his uniform is green this is near on impossible.
It would be simple if only he wore size 9-10 or below. It irritates me a great deal

schroeder · 26/06/2011 18:36

I buy my dc trousers in June every year to get the discount at M&S. I tried asda for trousers once, but had to replace them by December, so ended costing me more that year Hmm.

Polo shirts I get cheap wherever and jumpers/cardigans I have to buy through school, but I get them roomy and make them last 2 years (thankfully I bought them last year Grin)

Shoes I get in August or whenever they grow, quite often they get through 2 pairs of school shoes per year Sad.

Not sure why it would annoy you?

I also start buying Christmas stuff in September so I can spread the cost.

DD gets a mix - debenhams, bhs, school wear shop and marks and sparks but asdas have consistently got highest quality IMHO. DDs got a full years wear out of 3 skirts and a pinofore from there plus 2 cardis almost everywhere else ive bought from ive had to replace at some point. sorry im not a boden mummy but when it comes to my DD quality is my aim not bragging..

whippet · 26/06/2011 18:39

YABVU...

Not only have I bought my DCs uniform for next year (DS1 is moving schools)
BUT

I have already labelled it too..... Shock

There, get your knickers in a twist over that OP...... Grin

dementedma · 26/06/2011 18:47

Demented soem stuff in M+S is the same price as supermarkets. Last year DS's maine troousers were £7/8/9 (cant remember which) bit they were the Teflon ones. I also got a £3 pair from their basics range.

The jumpers are the same price, £2 in both Sainsbury and M+S
