Regarding weight issues.

Fat = eat monster.

It's not always that way. 20 years ago my OH was fit and sporty bloke; out every night football, training, squash, tennis, cricket, golf. Not a boozer or a fondness for takeaways.

We had several close deaths one after the other which caused the onset of type 2 diabetes. (Go google. shock can cause type 2) That escalated into HBP and cholesterol problems. Two heart attacks at 40.

Sport still very much part of his life until he had an injury that incapaciated him for 18 months until he had an operation to repair the injury and left him immobile.

I'm just looking at his last prescriptions. 26 different drugs a day. He's put on 10 stone.

HBP & cholesterol = no fat. Diabetic = no sugar (that includes alcohol)

Can't even manage around of golf now due to the destruction of the nerve endings in his legs and feet.

The discolouration of his legs really means that gangrene will set in sooner rather than later. Amputation will follow.

But some of you will equate fat to being a scoffing git who deserves it. Even though his diet is so boringly plain and his weight is largely drug induced.

Don't worry. We both work. Don't claim any benefits either. Would hate to be a fat burden on you all.

Even if it is due to over eating, this itself is usually caused by psychological illness. Do you not think if it was as easy as just stopping eating, then very few people would be overweight?

For as long I can remember I have been stuck in a never ending cycle of drastically undereating or drastically overeating. This cycle of over eating lasted the longest due to relationship issues and pressure on me to eat. About a week ago I started undereating. Once again I am actually enjoying feeling hungry and lightheaded. This is both good and bad. Good because I won't be gaining any more weight, bad because the last time I did his I was really quite ill and weighed in at my lightest at 8st9. I am 5ft8.5. ALthough I am determoned I won't let it get to that stage this time.

If there were threads on anoreia would you post "Start eating you skinny fuck, it's your own fault"? - thought not. Anorexics punish themselves by starving themselves silly, overweight people punish themselves with food. I know I have been both.

No-one chooses to be anorexic, very few people choose to be overweight. Op - YANBU.

special circumstances? like what leprsosy?

ooh

how about whistling through my piles -? i can whistle greensleaves through my arse every time i fart

iMemoo · 20/06/2011 22:34

Gwedonline, what was your previous name??

MmeLindor. · 20/06/2011 22:35

I have no idea what thread you are talking about, but if you are feeling down because of posts like Fabby's then I can only advise you to walk away from the pc, give your DH a big hug and ignore the shite that some people spout.

Birdsgottafly · 20/06/2011 22:38

I was a HCA for many years but never met anyone who at 12 stone couldn't wipe their own arse (met a few who talked out of it though).

quirrelquarrel · 20/06/2011 22:39

But I bet the majority of fat people don't punish themselves by eating, they just do it, there's little thought involved. If a person has been fat since they were six because they just like eating a bit too much, then obviously you'd be doing them a real disservice by saying they're "psychologically ill", you just kill their motivation by making them think they have this and that to overcome or that they need "real" treatment to solve their problem. I do believe that overeating is not usually caused by illness. We slap this label onto everything which is a little too hard to reach these days.

burgerclub · 20/06/2011 22:40

LOL @ Birdsgottafly.

CoteDAzur · 20/06/2011 22:40

The vast majority of obese people are not so fat because of extreme bad luck, like your DH.

YANBU to expect people not to talk about the rule just because your DH is the exception.

joric · 20/06/2011 22:40

2amdanonion- I agree, just forget this thread now.. I'm really sorry for you at the moment :(

CoteDAzur · 20/06/2011 22:44

"Start eating you skinny fuck, it's your own fault"

I have actually said something similar once, to an anorexic girl whining about her condition.

She was truly shocked and said some time later that it was the kick she needed to deal with her problem.

Empusa · 20/06/2011 22:46

"She was truly shocked and said some time later that it was the kick she needed to deal with her problem."

I feel that was more luck than judgement on your part.

Birdsgottafly · 20/06/2011 22:48

I would like to know were everyone gets their facts from because with the rise in medication saving lives there has been an increase of obese people caused by medical problems. Also by those who used to die now being rendered disabled and unable to take any form of exercise. This week is national learning disability week, i was reading a report about the life expectancy of people with downs syndrome, they are living longer but at the same time they are adding to the numbers of obese children and adults. People need to look at the facts behind the statisics.

KilledBill · 20/06/2011 23:00

Tactful Fabby as always, telling us how she's "so fucking fat" at 12 stone and a size 16.

Isnt a size 16 the average in Britain now?

So you lost some weight- menaing you were probably over eating. Thats not the case for everybody. And to be honest, most over weight people feel pretty shit about themselves as it is, they dont need you making it worse.

FabbyChic · 20/06/2011 23:03

I could not reach to wipe myself properly because I had a fat back. For every 1lb you are overweight you are carrying a bag of sugar, carry 42 extra lb and that is a lot if you placed 42 bags of sugar on your body.

FabbyChic · 20/06/2011 23:04

I looked really fat, a size 16 on a short person is fat. I was classed as clinically obese thank you very much.

CravingExcitement · 20/06/2011 23:04

All the smug cunts who like judging people who are overweight, you should know that statistically you are likely to regain the original weight lost, plus some extra. Don't worry though, there'll be plenty of nasty people queuing up to judge you. Bon apetit!

Empusa · 20/06/2011 23:05

Currently 12 stone, and 4"10'. Which makes me a dress size 18.

Also, wtf is a fat back??

Empusa · 20/06/2011 23:07

Fabby If you couldn't reach to wipe properly I'd say you have a strange technique. Bearing in mind I've also got back mobility problems which stop me twisting or bending properly.

Birdsgottafly · 20/06/2011 23:09

Fabby- i have seen much larger people manage to do what you could not, you are certainly not the norm. I have also been to numerous medical appointments with people who are larger and their doctors are telling them that their weight is not damaging to them. You cannot judge by outside appearance what is happening on the inside. You do really need to work on the inside, though.

Leave it to doctors to decide who is damaging their health by their behaviour, most of you are not qualified to make the statements that you are.

burgerclub · 20/06/2011 23:10

Fabby, did it ever occur to you to reach between your legs to wipe your bum, as opposed to reaching behind your (obviously mountainous) back? Because, I mean, if the alternative was walking around smelling faintly of shit all day, personally I'd have put some effort into figuring out a way round the problem.

worraliberty · 20/06/2011 23:12

People judge and they always will..it's a fact of life.

How many of us have ever seen someone smoking outside a building and thought 'Oh, I bet that person's had a terrible life with one problem after another and nicotine is their only way of coping'?

No, you just think 'Ewww smelly smoker!' if you're going to think anything at all.

Same with fat people, some will just look and think 'Ewww greedy and lazy'

No-one knows what goes on in anyone's life but it doesn't stop us judging..and anyone who claims never to judge people they don't know, I don't believe them.

CravingExcitement · 20/06/2011 23:17

I really have never thought "Ewww greedy and lazy" about anyone, because I'm not a nasty person.
If I did start thinking about people in that way, I would look at what in myself was causing me to be such a horrible person. Happy people who like themselves do not judge others.
