I have 2 cats and an elderly neighbour. I have noticed that our side passage is littered with cat poo but my young ds told me today that he saw *** (our neighbour) throwing poo over the fence into our garden and that he thought it was disgusting. There are several cats in the area. What do you think about that?

I think your neighbour is pissed of with finding cat shit in his Borders. Assuming he doesn't have a cat I can understand his frustration and desire to give it back to it's real owner.

However I. The interests of hygiene, perhaps you could suggest he bags it before he flings it, for ease of disposal for you?

I don't have a cat, but 3 neighbours between them have 5 cats. I have new piles of cat shit every day in my front flowerbeds right by the front door. The stink is terrible, I despise cleaning it up (chuck out a pair of gloves each time). I don't want it in my bin (even bagged) - why should I have someone else's animal faeces in my bin. Absolutely disgusting.

She might be chucking it over because she hasn't got anywhere to put it/doesn't want to keep buying bags/gloves. Other people's pets are costing ME money!

I really struggle to understand why people think their cat should be allowed to shit in their neighbours' gardens with no consequences. I wouldn't throw it back as I think that is also disgusting, but I do sympathise with your neighbour's problem. If I was in your position, I would offer to buy her a supply of bags or gloves. Or try to get your cat to shit in a litter tray and inform your neighbour that it isn't your cat.

I have a friend with a cat and she asked her neighbour if she would feed the cat whilst they went on holiday. Neighbour went mad, said she was forever cleaning up this animal's shit and that there was no way she would feed it.

Seriously though, why don't you just have a word. My mum's NDN lets her dog shit all over the front gardens of the rest of the street - with a dog, this is obv preventable - and it's causing serious bad feeling. In the interests of neighbourly harmony, knock on his door, commiserate, and hand him a wodge of bags to use - or offer to go round every 2-3 days and pick up.

Make your cats wear a nappy then the neighbour cant blame you.

It's probably better than a lot of the other solutions people have mentioned on here as a way to combat the problem. Those have included animal poison and some kind of pepper mixture, big dogs, sharp sticks, air guns, lion poo, human poo, human urine, plastic bottles and all manner of water missiles.

Ask him why he is so sure the poo is from your cats and if he says he's seen them do it could you offer to go and clear it up for him and keep an outdoor litter tray in your own garden for your cats to (hopefully) use instead?

Flinging poo into your area when there's a young child about is just sick.

I used to sling snails into next door's garden.

Which was very unfair as they weren't responsible for the snails.

But their garden was crap anway... .

You might also buy your neighbour a remedy he can use to prevent the cat shitting in his garden.

When I had spinach plants it was horrifically disgusting to find catshit next to things we wanted to eat. I mean logically, I know snails etc will have crawled over them, but the shit was just horrible. I used cayenne pepper and never had any more problems. Could you buy him something similar?

OK - I have cats. I have to say that if my neighbours were flinging the cat poo back over into our garden I would not be bothered. Why would I? They are my cats.
Why does your DS think it's disgusting for the neighbour to send cat poo back over but presumably thinks it's OK for your cats to poo in your garden in the first place?

Even if it's not your cat doing the shitting, go over to your neighbour, knock on the door, apologise and ask if your cats are causing any grief, offer to clean up the mess, do this with a genuine heart and I guarantee there will be no more shit slinging.

Stick a target out in your yard so they have something to aim for and can score points. Then you can stick a bin under for easy clean poo removal. Make a social sporting event for neighbourhood

only a cctv camera can solve this issue. i note this would work well with MistressFrankly's suggestion, as you could then award points.

or a quick chat with the neighbour as madhousewife suggests? some good advice there for neighbourly relations.

Feed your cats loads of food colouring or beetroot then they have easily identifiable poo then you can tell the neighbour only to sling the blue/red/purple shit your way

As for my ds thinking it is ok for the cats to shit next door - he dos'nt, he is too young to realise that the offending poo might be ours or even cat poo for that matter and is just reeling from the shock of witnessing a crazy pensioner shit slinging on a sunday afternoon.

I've been a cat-shit-slinger too. We knew the cat was our neighbour's and it came in every day, little fucker. I had no qualms at all about chucking it back over the fence.

Oooh i know (last one i promise!) - get togged up in waterproofs and lurk behind the fence with a tennis racket. Soon as the turds start raining over thwack em back in the spirit of wimbledon. That should put oyur neighbours off their dirty protest.

On second thoughts use a ping pong bat. Tennis rackets have holes and it may cause shrapnol. Or in this case Shatnol. Or Crapnol.
