I have 2 cats and an elderly neighbour. I have noticed that our side passage is littered with cat poo but my young ds told me today that he saw *** (our neighbour) throwing poo over the fence into our garden and that he thought it was disgusting. There are several cats in the area. What do you think about that?

I do not have a cat or a dog - because I do not want to have to clean up their mess from my garden. Why should I have to clean up mess from neighbours cats and dogs?

You wanted the cat you have his shit too. Sorry I think your neighbour is well within his rights to send the mess back to where it came from.

Your cat, your mess, your problem!

wipeyuppie · 12/06/2011 23:44

I don't deny that it is my problem but don't you think a friendly chat would have been a less extreme approach fishtankneedscleaning. I think the flying shit might have landed on one of my young children and also damaged their view of the neighbour as a sweet reasonable person.

'Flinging poo into your area when there's a young child about is just sick.'

Does that also apply to the child whose garden it is? Is it also sick that they should have to put up with shit in their own playspace?

brass · 12/06/2011 23:52

just to be clear - I'm on the flinging side of the fence on this one.

MumblingRagDoll · 12/06/2011 23:54

My DH threw some poo over our neighbours fence...she has three cats and they all shit in our garden ALL the time..we see them...one day he had had enough....and he threw a hunk over the fence...he was MORTIFIED when it hit her washing on the line!

Mrs Next Door...we are very sorry. It was an accident.

A1980 · 12/06/2011 23:55

They're your cats OP. Why would you be digusted with having your cat's shit in your garden?

I'd try an air rifle instead if I was your neighbour. Grin

Just kidding.

80sMum · 12/06/2011 23:56

Have to admit I used to do that with our neighbour's dog's poo! Shovelled it up and lobbed it back over the hedge! Grin

wipeyuppie · 12/06/2011 23:57

I'm with you Brass, and am going to offer to clear it up so it dosn't get flung into the childrens play space. I'm all for positive solutions thats all Smile.

i have 2 cats who both mainly stay indoors though they can go out, they dont very often though

if they are out, (rarely) the come in to use their litter tray.

i do however have half the neighbour hood cats shitting in my front garden.

they are territorial - do you think putting a litter tray outside would work at all? Do your own cats use a litter tray OP?

i know loads of people who get rid of litter trays when their cats start to go out - where on earth they think they go after that i have no idea! my moggies like to come in to use the tray. it saves all sorts of hassle with neighbours.

wipeyuppie · 13/06/2011 00:00

Don't even joke about air rifles, we had an incident that cost us £700 in vet bills a few years ago.

OP posts:
brass · 13/06/2011 00:02

you're a good neighbour wipey Smile at least you're willing to compromise.

I thought cats could be trained to go on litter trays ?

brass · 13/06/2011 00:04

ahh I see why use litter trays and deal with it yourself when they can go in someone else's garden - it's someone else's problem.

wipeyuppie · 13/06/2011 00:04

I am going to try the cat litter tray thing. Unfortunately the neighbour's garden looks like a giant litter tray.

brass · 13/06/2011 00:06

still their garden though

biscuitmad · 13/06/2011 00:07

My neighbour feeds squirrels and every bloody day they sit on my fence, they crack open the nuts and leave the shells in my garden. Once a week I go and Ive got a new pile of shells.

Sometimes it really does piss me off and I throw them back over the fence because i dont want them in my garden. My lo picks them up and trys to eat them. Very annoying.

brass · 13/06/2011 00:08

ditto pigeon feeders!

wipeyuppie · 13/06/2011 00:11

yes brass it is their garden and they shouldn't have to deal with poo. I am just trying to find a successful solution. I think clearing any poo up and having trays should resolve the issue and prevent any further incidents or animosity. Agreed?

OP posts:
brass · 13/06/2011 00:14

At least they will see that you are doing what you can to resolve it. I couldn't stay angry at that.

brass · 13/06/2011 00:15

Good luck hope it goes well.

fishtankneedscleaning · 13/06/2011 00:29

Wipey Neither me nor my children are ecstatic about stepping (or playing) in animal faeces in our garden. I presume your kids love your cat and so will not be too put out about its shit being lobbed back into your garden. After all you bought (or acquired) the animal. Deal with its shit. Why should your elderely neighbour have to put up with it?

Air rifle........ Mmmmm now there's an idea. :)

heleninahandcart · 13/06/2011 01:58

Nasty to have cat poo where kids play? Too right. So you got some back. Now you know what it feels like.

Good to see you are going to deal with this OP, wish more cat owners realised just how offensive this is.

Disgusted of surburbia

auntpetunia · 13/06/2011 06:36

Am another one who throws the shit back where it's come from. Don't care if neighbours not happy their cat their shit. I certainly don't want it in my garden or my bin.

Joannezipan · 13/06/2011 07:18

My neighbour 2 doors down has 9 cats (none of which has been spayed so every year she has more cats). My garden stinks of cat shit and piss all the time. If I could throw it far enough I would!

SofiaAmes · 13/06/2011 07:22

wipeyuppie, where did you think your cats were pooing all this time? It's a bit disingenuous to all of a sudden realize that it must be in your neighbor's yard because your 7 year old has suddenly noticed the poo being flung back. And 7 is absolutely not "too young" to understand that cats poo and that they do it in someone else's yard and that might be unpleasant for those people (especially if elderly).

Bucharest · 13/06/2011 07:27

Am I suddenly in some parallel shit filled universe?

OP's cats shit in neighbour's garden, neighbour gets shitty about it, and we side with the OP?

Does not compute.
