I, along with most women I imagine are grateful that women fought to give us a vote.....

However I believe that things have gone to far..I hate women who moan and bitch about how they can't have everything!!!!!!!!

No your damn right you can not have everything ...if you go to work full time when your children are young, YOU WILL MISS OUT!!!!!

Why should women have it all???

I believe that most feminists think that they are more worthy of having everything then men and guess what you are wrong...men dont have it all...most men still work full time and still miss out on their children..

Men used to provide for their families...Men used to have a little pride...I don't think that that those women all those years ago wanted things to go this far...where some women see men as useless and think they can do everthing with out them..including having children...fair enough if you split up and you end up a single mum thats one thing but choosing to have a baby alone is just plain selfish....women should not be allowed to use a sperm doner if they are single..

So you feminists who think you are better then men and that you can have everything..YOU ARE WRONG...I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Annie, I think we are actually on the same page. I do not argue that sahm making themselves vulnerable, this is an argument mentioned upthread by someone describing themselves as a feminist. I object to that. Anybody is making themselves vulnerable by not continuously working on their skills be so stay-at-home work or being stuck in 9-5 paid rut.

archie - I think I've just joined your unnamed, unintentional movement.
I may be an Archie-vist.

What about de Guinea Pigz!

(for those of you not in the know that is a sort of feminist joke - albeit slightly adapted - to end any argument. You know a bit like the liberal argument-ender, "racist!" It usually comes at that point just after hollow rhetoric and cant has been exhausted and just before ad hominem insults - usually directed at the poster's intelligence or what is contained in their pants)

Hooray garlicbutter.
We shall start a revolution here and now. We shall all be equal (AT LAST)
and we shall have numbers not names to emphasise our equality.
"What's that garlicbutter"? what will our numbers be?

Well I shall be number one and you shall be number two. Can't say fairer than that can I, as leader, like. And number two is a very special number. It comes BEFORE number three. So all you've got to do is recruit someone else and you will be ABOVE them. Great eh! Just remember not to recruit any archivists of librarians or anything of that sort, ok?

AL
I tried arguing about the plastic nature of gender, both physical and psychological, on a thread earlier in the week, but got thoroughly bashed for my pains.

I'm sorry to hear that AL but unfortunately conviction/ego often trumps facts as you well know through your study of the history of science, comparative religion etc. Plus ca change c'est le meme chose (or something like that). But one should never give up unless they actually have a gun to your head. Then apologise, profusely.

Yup, another bloke in a skirt here.

DandyGilver · 06/06/2011 10:34

Me too.

And actually, I think that anyone who works full time MISSES OUT. You just spend a lot of time doing things that are not what you would have chosen to do (even if you love your job there are meetings, networking, admin HR stuff for staff - necessary but not fulfilling). That's life.

But if you don't work you also miss out. You have less choice, independence security etc.

lesley33 · 06/06/2011 10:44

I guess not having the skills and experience to get a job will make you more vulnerable i.e. if you and your partner split up you could be left financially destitute. And if your children have left home, you may not receive a good financial settlement.

Its not necessarily a reason not to be a SAHM or housewife, but it is a fact.

lesley33 · 06/06/2011 10:48

Dandy - I think you are right. Any choices you make in life mean that you miss out on something. And you will rarely know if those choices were the best ones to make or not.

"women should not be allowed to use a sperm doner if they are single"

There must be some weird takeaways in your part of the world OP ... how many men does it take to make a sperm doner?
