to believe that most feminists are in actual fact giving women a bad name?

I, along with most women I imagine are grateful that women fought to give us a vote.....

However I believe that things have gone to far..I hate women who moan and bitch about how they can't have everything!!!!!!!!

No your damn right you can not have everything ...if you go to work full time when your children are young, YOU WILL MISS OUT!!!!!

Why should women have it all???

I believe that most feminists think that they are more worthy of having everything then men and guess what you are wrong...men dont have it all...most men still work full time and still miss out on their children..

Men used to provide for their families...Men used to have a little pride...I don't think that that those women all those years ago wanted things to go this far...where some women see men as useless and think they can do everthing with out them..including having children...fair enough if you split up and you end up a single mum thats one thing but choosing to have a baby alone is just plain selfish....women should not be allowed to use a sperm doner if they are single..

So you feminists who think you are better then men and that you can have everything..YOU ARE WRONG...I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

I trained as a solicitor originally.

MitchiestInge

I find that very hard to belive

bemybebe · 05/06/2011 22:03

The problem is what I said earlier, the ideology is very fair and I am totally subscribing to it - equal rights to men - in reality I found that feminist approach is very aggressive anti-sahm ("they are putting themselves into vulnerable position and their brains go all slushy from lack of socialization") and "men should always share household chores or they are bad partners".

MitchiestInge · 05/06/2011 22:04

Really, why?

happy4eva · 05/06/2011 22:04

we are all equal :)

I can't see how you can argue that SAHMs are making themselves vulnerable. Or that any man worth his salt should help maintain his own home. I don't think anyone would say a full-time working parent should split all housework 50/50 with a SAHP, but there should never be a situation where a working parent sees earning the money as their only necessary contribution and happily sits on their arse all evening/weekend while the SAHP works 24/7.

archieleach · 05/06/2011 22:09

Hello Flyingonion. I was not being ironic.
For those of us who believe in equality for all, to be called a feminist is offensive, as the connotations imho are virtually all negative.

MitchiestInge · 05/06/2011 22:10

oh that's a shame

MillyR · 05/06/2011 22:12

What a bizarre thread. Unless men actually believe that women are some kind of strange group that they can stereotype, how can feminism give women a bad name? If there is no sexism, then wouldn't men judge women based on actually knowing lots of them, rather than on some narrow idea of what feminism is?

happy4eva · 05/06/2011 22:14

Totally i belive in equal rights but for men, women and children there cannot be one without the other :)

continuousexpansion · 05/06/2011 22:17

happy4eva, I hope your sister knows the difference between "your" and "you're" or she might end up looking a bit of a cock at work.

archie - I'm very interested as to why you don't think feminists want equality for all too.

?The day women's things are seen as equal in value to men's things, neither group will have anything to complain about?

It might be a nice idea but that is about it because it will never happen as women's things are not equal to men's things are they? Nobel prize anyone?

Male brains: focus, curiosity, desire to understand phenomena and make people's lives better, exhaustive attention to detail and overwork.
Female brains: emotional slush, self-objectification, trying to please everyone, a work-life balance.

Of course male brains like this can lead to obsessions and imbalances more than female brains. That is why men will always be more "successful" than women but also more criminal. They cluster at the extreme ends of any continuum.

Ok ok I'm joking

happy4eva · 05/06/2011 22:19

i love people on here who just change their name to carry on chatting shit :) makes my day soo much better :)

AnnieLobeseder · 05/06/2011 22:21

I'm confused. I appear to be a women, but you just described me (a scientist) under the male-brain definition.

Oh dear. Looks like I'll have to have gender reassignment. DH won't be pleased. He likes my lady parts.

Well, 1 - because they don't (ok being flippant there) - but my impression is that they don't, they simply want to pervert and subvert power perceived power structures and in so doing simply destroy families.
2 -I think you must know only too well what most people's perceptions of feminism are, and in using the word most, I would guess 80% of men and 40% of women.

MillyR · 05/06/2011 22:25

I'm interested to see how what kind of list of human rights would be drawn up by people who think you can define equal rights without reference to women's issues.

Don?t get all confused on me. As a scientist you well know that attributes of the male and female brains are not exclusively owned by one gender

(but please don't tell me you are a social scientist)

LRDTheFeministDragon · 05/06/2011 22:30

Oh, did I get here just in time for the 'male and female brains' theory to start eating its own tail? Good good. Smile

AnnieLobeseder · 05/06/2011 22:32

archie - sorry if it seems odd to me that you don't want to associate with feminism because people have incorrect perceptions of it. Surely it would be better to try to change those perceptions?

And no, not a social scientist. I is a real scientist. Though not a rocket scientist.

I tried arguing about the plastic nature of gender, both physical and psychological, on a thread earlier in the week, but got thoroughly bashed for my pains. Sad

archieleach · 05/06/2011 22:33

Everyone's mad who doesn't agree with me. Gosh how many times do I have to tell you people! tchuh!
