Just being curious, really. We don't get too many (eg) xxFreddiesMummyxx's on here, which I have seen on other forums. And so far, not noticed any Lucy R(3104703) a la Netmums. So, would anyone like to share their name choosing stories?

Mines taken (rather unimaginatively) from a song title, Don't Call Me Peanut by Bayside.

AlcoPop · 01/06/2011 21:51

Because I do and am. Just look at my profile. Used to use my firstname but was too unique to post on interesting threads.

BootyMum · 01/06/2011 22:36

My husband is South African and called DS1 "Boetie" as a baby which means little brother in Afrikaans. This became DS1's nickname "Booty". I added the Mum before I was aware that anything Mum, Mummy, etc is a bit naff on MN... But can't be bothered to name change [am also not witty enough to think up another cleverer name]

CandyS · 01/06/2011 22:39

It's my nickname, and the intial of my surname.

bettydraperswardrobeelf · 01/06/2011 22:45

Mine is after Betty Draper from Mad Men. The character wears the most beautiful 1950s dresses and I just love them. I just love 50s style, so sexy and feminine. I don't want to be Betty Draper (life of dull domesticity and a philandering husband) but would like to live in her wardrobe amongst all the lovely dresses.

ShellyBoobs · 01/06/2011 23:01

Mine is my 'real' nickname.

My name's Michelle, but I've been Shelly to friends and some family for almost as long as I can remember.

Some very close friends have called me ShellyBobs for a long time, but I had a boob job a few years ago and they cheekily modified it to ShellyBoobs. I can assure you the 'boobs' bit wouldn't be obvious if you met me though; they ain't massive! Grin

MarmadukeMarmalade · 03/06/2011 10:57

Mine was a Benny Hill character

thomasbodley · 03/06/2011 11:05

Word association. My surname (not Bodley) is also the name of a library.

LadyGok · 03/06/2011 11:36

Mine is actually the breed name of my Dane and well Gok is a lady or is that Queen.

WolfShapedBullet · 03/06/2011 11:42

I love the programme Being Human (geek), the term stuck in my head and when changing my name I thought it was as good a new one as any. It also conjures up images of the rather beautiful Aidan Turner, which isn't a bad thing.

poopnscoop · 03/06/2011 11:43

Cos it rhymed.

SarahBumBarer · 03/06/2011 12:06

A stupid childhood rhyme at school (north east) used to take someones first name (say Katie) as follows

Katie bum batie stickle atie fi fatie" fi fatie stickle atie* that's how you spell Katie

In my case unfortunately this resulted in the rhyme starting with Sarah Bum Barer Blush

I don't. Very often.

fuckmepinkandcallmerosie · 03/06/2011 12:26

It's one of my favourite sayings.

glendathegoodwitch · 03/06/2011 12:48

sarahbumbarer someone at work came upto me singing that rhyme about me - i was like OMG they used to sing that about me at school - went online to look for famous poem about my unusual name - no such thing then last week a girl i worked with sang it about someone else's name - i was devastated i thought it was a special rhyme just for me :( lol since then we have gone through family and work colleagues names to much hysterics (vicky & barbara - were not amused pmsl)

my name is from wizard of oz but no idea why - it used to be hambuttie cos thats what i was eating at the time i signed up.

think i'm due for another change!!!

love the thread!!!

MitchiestInge · 03/06/2011 12:53

Someone, Mamazon I think, had thread about shaving her minge (to save money on waxing perhaps?) and I was secondarily traumatised by idea of how itchy it would be when it grew back. Had no idea people would actually shave instead of waxing or using creams, would rather be furry than itchy.

swampster · 03/06/2011 14:41

I joined MN when I was pregnant with DS2, Alien Swamp Monster aka swampster.

sadlovedgirl · 03/06/2011 15:21

mine is the name of a song by Deacon Blue

Arion · 03/06/2011 17:07

Nyx had gone, but never seen it used Sad (goddess of the night).

Arion in Greek mythology was rescued by dolphins, I swam with dolphins when I was young, free and single, a few years decade or so ago now!

WineComesInAtTheMouth · 03/06/2011 20:59

Courtesy of W.B Yeats.

Wine comes in at the mouth
And love comes in at the eye;
That's all we shall know for truth
Before we grow old and die.
I lift the glass to my mouth,
I look at you, and I sigh.

< I love Yeats. I also love a bottle glass or two of the red stuff...Wine> Grin
