to ask her to take someone else?

I bought my best friend and I two Take That tickets for 30th June, which we've been really looking forward to.

I've recently discovered that I'm pregnant and it works out I'll be around 13 weeks when we go.

TBH - I really don't want to go now for that reason and a few others. I don't know how to tell her that I don't want to go, but that she's more than welcome to take someone else.

She's been looking forward to it so much with me, and she's confided in me that I'm her only real friend that she likes spending time with, so it makes it a little worse. She knows I'm pregnant, and she's already started to panic about how she's 'going to have to make sure I'm OK' and I just can't be doing with it!

Any advice?

Good on you OP re your last post, I do like a happy ending.

FWIW, I went to see Scissor Sisters at Brixton academy when I was pregnant, arrived late and ended up right at the back where I couldn't see anything. So I thought, fuck this, and tried to barge my way through to the front, only to be stopped by security. He then led me to the disabled area! It was a side balcony, really near the front, with chairs and tons of space. Use it to your advantage I say, maybe mention it and see what they can offer.

Good on you for having the balls to come back. I'm glad that you're going, cos I think you would have regretted it otherwise. I did notice on another thread that you're struggling with quitting the fags. Good luck with that.

sunshinelifeisgood · 17/05/2011 23:56

Sofa: Good luck with your pregnancy. I have read through this and at one stage was about to post a YABU, however once getting to the end I felt a little compassion. Your bf will be dissapointed but if she is a true bf she will understand. Good luck :)

flyingspaghettimonster · 18/05/2011 02:16

She doesn't want to expose an unborn baby to Take That... fair enough! :)

Just tell her you are having bad morning sicknes and think she would be best planning to go with someone else rather than feeling let down if you can't make it on the night...

I was still running 3km at 6 months pregnant. At 14 weeks, I was still running 8 km in one shot. So you could go and just have some fun, but take it easy, or hibernate the rest of your pregnancy and be a martyr about how you can't do anything because you're pregnant as there's too many things that 'may' happen.

I don't think you're going to be pushed and shoved at a Take That concert.

As for the money, the tickets are bought; you can still make it an very inexpensive night out. I doubt an extra 20quid right now is going to make or break you when the baby comes.

GotArt · 18/05/2011 02:34

Sorry... the last 7 pages of this thread didn't come up on page... I see you are going. Have a great time.

BTW... I'm due in 10 days and hope to go late just so I can go to a Supertramp concert in town. Grin

TidyDancer · 18/05/2011 17:50

Curry, they won't let the OP take a camping seat in. It's a shame actually, because that would be handy!

justkeepingheadabovewater · 19/05/2011 21:47

GotArt bad things do happen to some of us, woop de doo for you running for miles while pregnant, congrats... Hmm

Oh and lovely to be called a martyr due to concern for a much wanted baby. Real nice..
Having said that, good for you OP, I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I will! Grin

whethergirl · 20/05/2011 21:20

I agree, you did overdo a bit there GotArt, I personally wouldn't go running for miles whilst pregnant. And using the words 'hibernating' and 'martyr' comes across smug and belittling. I realise that you changed your tune a bit in your next thread, but you just had to add the bit about Supertramp didn't you!!

InAStateOfReflux · 20/05/2011 21:29

Make the most of doing these things while you still can! I went to the IOW festival and camped for 3 nights when I was 9 weeks as I had bought the ticket before I found out. I nearly ducked out of going, but I'm glad I went in the end as once you have your dc things like this becoem so much more difficult.

InAStateOfReflux · 20/05/2011 21:39

FWIW running in pregnancy is actually pretty safe, especially if you are quite fit beforehand. I ran a half marathon in early pregnancy before I found out, I then gave up when I found out, but both my MW and GP said I would have been fine to keep running moderate distances until I felt comfortable. Not trying to be smug, just defending gotart, as I'm sure she didn't mean to offend...

To put your mind at rest OP, in early pg the fetus is very well protected so any "mechanical" damage by anything external is unlikely to cause harm to your injury. Sadly most early miscarriages are due to chromosomal abnormalites that are present from conception, so you are extremely unlikely to cause your little dd any harm by going. It's later on that obviously you have to "watch your bump" and stop it getting knocked about etc! The main concern about going is your comfort, but it is one night and you never know you might enjoy it! I was surprised how much fun I could have without alcohol, even had a bit of a dance etc!

InAStateOfReflux · 20/05/2011 21:40

I meant "unlikely to cause harm or injury, not sure what happened there...
