To think selling your second hand reusable nappies is a bit gross?

Someone I know is selling her reusable nappies, which she has used for her 2 DC.

I know many people pass on baby clothes. I have been glad of hand me downs from friends and relatives but I'd never use second hand reusables. AIBU to think this is a bit gross?

Running, you've really started something here!

LaWeasel · 30/03/2011 15:02

DD had second hand nappies. Saved us a small fortune when we were living off very little, so I have no qualms about it at all.

Runningjustasfastasican · 30/03/2011 15:04

I must have very clean babies - mine aren't covered in vomit and poo! Few food and milk stains and an odd bit of poo leakage on a couple of vests but not covered.

Running, have you and I ever been seen in the same room at the same time? Perhaps we are one and the same!! Wink Grin

Runningjustasfastasican · 30/03/2011 15:15

I was genuinely interested in people's opinions and am a bit surprised that I am completely in the minority. I think I'm a bit OTT about some things and a bit lazy about others.! I'll bin a vest that I can't get a stain out off but feel physically sick if I see someone suck a babies dummy and then put it back in the baby's mouth!

Think so Champer :) - not sure what you'll make of my previous post

My sentiments exactly!! Ditto, ditto, ditto...

Runningjustasfastasican · 30/03/2011 15:25

At least I'm not completely on my own!

Right DCs awake, departing for some toddler fun! Back later to see if any more are telling me IABU! :)

DC wear second hand pants -- some were given to me, some I got in charity shops, some belonged to their cousins, most were previously used by older siblings.

So what? Exactly what bad thing is supposed to happen?

And yes I would wear pre-owned pants, especially if they were free of charge & of course presuming they looked & fit fine & I knew the alternative was them going to waste. I have plenty of my deceased mother's other old clothes, just that her knix didn't fit or suit me or I probably would have kept them to wear myself.

YABU - I have just freecycled a load of mothersease/little lamb nappies and had tonnes of requests for them. No one minded that they need sun-bleaching but I haven't had the chance to yet this year. Some of them where 2nd hand when I was given them and then used on 2 children before offering them to others - still in good nick just not eye blindingly white Grin

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 30/03/2011 16:51

They are bits of cloth designed to catch shit and piss. You think it makes any difference which babies arse they are on when they do that?

and if you can't tell the difference between babies nappies and adult knickers there is really soemthing very wrong with you.

Runningjustasfastasican · 30/03/2011 17:15

Well Winter - I really don't think it's that different! I also don't think there is something very wrong with me but I do think you are quite rude!

OP posts:
WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 30/03/2011 17:19

Is that right? Hmm

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 30/03/2011 17:30

I'll happily take any second hand reusables if people will post to me (obviously paying and covering costs). It's crazy trying to find them in shops here - there's about one shop on the whole sodding island - and most UK websites won't ship to me, particularly as I'd like to try a few different styles rather than buy a complete set of one brand.

My siblings wore the same terries I did. I've inherited some muslins that were used to mop up all our sick as well, and I'm fairly sure that when we were very brand new we used muslins as nappies.

It's what napisan was invented for!

FlingonTheValiant · 30/03/2011 17:34

Frakkle if you want I can have a look through mine. I think I've got a fair few motherease wraps, and definitely some Tots Bots fluffles, if they'd interest you. Other than that I'm not sure what I have as I don't have lots of one kind, just odd ones.

yoyomarr · 30/03/2011 17:47

I agree with Runningjustasfastasican, buying second hand nappies from someone you do not know is gross. Re-using them from a sibling fine no problem.

Second hand pants seriously? those pants have been up someone else's arse crack and you are happy for your dc's to wear them Hmm

smokinaces · 30/03/2011 17:49

Mine wore second hand nappies, amongst some new. I sold loads on too. Its not disgusting - they are sanitised when they are washed, and the majority had liners in so the poo hardly touched the sides! and they are a cost saving thing, the more you save the better!

My children have never been traumatised from it.

In fact have a pile somewhere in the house I still need to get rid of. Might try and dig them out for a couple of posters here that want some if I get a chance - thye might as well get some more use!

smokinaces · 30/03/2011 17:51

yoyomarr, what exactly is wrong with second hand pants? I mean, they are washed. They arent stained. They have no germs in them?

how would you know a pair of trousers you bought in a second hand shop hadnt been covered in blood/poo/vomit at some point?

I really dont get this obsession with germs and the whole throw away nation we seem to have become.

WinterOfOurDiscountTents · 30/03/2011 17:51

Whats the difference between a sibling and a child you don't know? Is it the cooties?

Jaysus you sound like teenagers..ewww gross, you're, like, disgusting?

smokinaces · 30/03/2011 17:54

and those that wouldnt use second hand - do you use the towels provided in hotel rooms? they wash intimate areas after all. or the bedding that other people may have shat/peed/cum all over??

or do you all take your own bedding and towels everywhere you go?

backwardpossom · 30/03/2011 17:56

I've borrowed pants from a friend when I was shit faced and crashed out on her sofa staying over unexpectedly and didn't have a change of clothes for the next day...

Just me?

smokinaces - yep if I can Blush.

I agree we have become a throw away nation, and I'm extremely guilty of it and pretty obsessed with germs.

OP posts:
Runningjustasfastasican · 30/03/2011 18:07

Winter - I'm not trying to sound or behave like a teenager and yes gross is a pretty childish word but I really wouldn't be comfortable using second hand pants or reusing nappies.
