To think selling your second hand reusable nappies is a bit gross?

Someone I know is selling her reusable nappies, which she has used for her 2 DC.

I know many people pass on baby clothes. I have been glad of hand me downs from friends and relatives but I'd never use second hand reusables. AIBU to think this is a bit gross?

I think it's a biy yuck too.

Selling them is fine, it's the buying of them that I find horrible. I do know that they wouldn't do any harm, it's just the idea of it that creeps me out.

QueenOf, would you mind wearing a pair of knickers that a stranger had worn before (and maybe many before them)? Perhaps you wouldn't - we are all different. I don't like the idea though. I think sometimes people will put their kids through things that they wouldn't put themselves through.

I get the whole good for the environment, saves m

I've bought almost all of DS's nappies 2nd hand, they all look completely pristine. Unlike some of the sleepsuits, vests etc that I bought 2nd hand that have very distinct stains on them.

IME people take much better care of nappies that cost £10+ each, than they do of baby clothes that are £10 for 5.

elphabadefiesgravity · 30/03/2011 14:12

YABU. I bought all of ds's nappies and wraps fro ebay when they still sold them.

If you use a nappy laundry service (which works out quite pticey) it is only the same thing.

I've still got a load of Motherase nappies and Tots Bots Size 2 if anyone wants them.

Prunnhilda · 30/03/2011 14:12

You have just reminded me that I have a bagful somewhere that I want to sell

Runningjustasfastasican · 30/03/2011 14:12

Oops - saves money argument, but they're so not the same as second hand clothes. You would not wear second hand knickers would you?!?

You might get a buyer on this thread Prunnhilda (not me though)

WRT 2nd hand knickers. There's a significantly greater risk of the previous owner having a bacterial of fungal infection, STI or otherwise, than there is of a baby having something nasty.

But, if knickers were as well made and as expensive as nappies are, then I probably wouldn't say no to 2nd hand one from someone I knew hadn't had anything. Even then, it's only because of the thought of it. A good dose of napisan and a nice hot wash would sort knickers out as well I'm sure.

4FoxAche · 30/03/2011 14:17

The 2nd hand nappies I bought are now being used on dc2 so these nappies have had a lot of use.

We use boosters and liners on them and they are looked after and I reckon they'll still be good enough to sell on again.

MarioandLuigi · 30/03/2011 14:17

YANBU - I understand they get washed but it still makes me feel a bit ick.

FlingonTheValiant · 30/03/2011 14:17

Knickers are on the whole cheap, and not very good quality. Not worth buying second hand.

Bras, on the other hand, I have been known to buy from ebay.

oldraver · 30/03/2011 14:17

I would sell mine if I could. I am recycling them in other ways anyhow I still saved loads by using them

Champersonice · 30/03/2011 14:18

Anyone up for buying my old knickers? Wink Grin

jetgirl · 30/03/2011 14:18

But knickers get worn out, then you chuck them out. I don't buy that argument. I have 20 washables I need to shift too, must do that!

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 30/03/2011 14:19

I agree Flingon. Women's and girls' knickers are very flimsy; I have put ds1 in second hand pants though.

Champersonice · 30/03/2011 14:20

And what do you mean cheap? Flingon! Knickers don't only have to come from the poundstore or such place. Thinking Fortnum & Masons, Rigby etc etc daarling!!

FlingonTheValiant · 30/03/2011 14:20

I remember my brother having second hand pants. And SIL buys them second hand for DN and BIL.

Knickers are rubbish by comparison.

RitaMorgan · 30/03/2011 14:21

You don't generally use liners in knickers either.

RitaMorgan · 30/03/2011 14:22

What about nurseries putting children in second hand pants if they've wet themselves, is that icky too?

FlingonTheValiant · 30/03/2011 14:22

Well yes, I have some very nice knickers, but they're still flimsy and wouldn't survive being washed every two or three days. So the quality is still not as good as nappies. And by the time I'm done with them, or anyone else is, it'll be because the elastic is knackered or whatever, and they won't be worth selling. They'll be good for polishing with.

MangoTango · 30/03/2011 14:23

I have some very good quality pants that I have regularly weed and pooed in, but I have washed them and they are still in good condition. Who would like to buy them?

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 30/03/2011 14:25

that's a thought though, if someone had a very posh pair of silk knickers they had worn once or twice on special occasions and got too fat for, would I? yes, probably! Grin

come to think of it I have worn my mum's knickers when she's been staying here and they've got mixed up with mine. And don't feel particularly grossed out about this.

Champersonice · 30/03/2011 14:25

Yes, Rita it is icky! I put spare clothes in bag for nursery. There was a time when potty training that DD had been put in another's spare pair. Next day I made sure there were LOTS of knickers so that wouldn't happen again. I suffer slightly with OCD so really have a problem with it but don't judge others for doing it. Everyone for themselves...
