To think selling your second hand reusable nappies is a bit gross?

Someone I know is selling her reusable nappies, which she has used for her 2 DC.

I know many people pass on baby clothes. I have been glad of hand me downs from friends and relatives but I'd never use second hand reusables. AIBU to think this is a bit gross?

I came across this thread through google and I had to say something because of the nasty things I was reading.

Some of the poo may go down the loo but some other goes in the w machine. I feel sorry for your babies.

There wasn't any other option in other times but you have disposable nappies now.

Luckily my baby doesn't normally stain her clothes of poo, just the nappy. But I have thrown away a few towels and vest she has stained.

TheOriginalFAB · 12/11/2011 20:03

You really can't compare knickers with nappies.

SacreLao · 12/11/2011 20:03

My son is in re-usable nappies and I have never had any poo in the machine actually.

You use a liner and it all gets flushed away.

I assume you also throw away all clothes that your baby is sick on, either all why would you put sick in the machine?

And where do the little bits that come off in the machine go Lucilliana?

I wouldn't feel too sorry for dd if I were you, she leads a pretty charmed existence. Grin

NinkyNonker · 12/11/2011 20:06

But seriously, there are so many different types of nappies it makes sense to try some out second hand before committing to a big purchase.

WhoMovedMyCheeseToast · 12/11/2011 20:08

@ripeberry (or anyone else) is there still a ban on Ebay-ing used nappies? I was actually going to list all ours tomorrow! If yes, can anyone recommend a site to sell them on? All in excellent condition - hardly used as a got lazy & switched to disposables...

Sharney · 12/11/2011 20:09

yanbu It's gross.

NinkyNonker · 12/11/2011 20:11

I think there is, yes.

Perhaps thenappysite.co.UK, usednappies co.UK or naturalmamas.co.UK

SacreLao · 12/11/2011 20:13

WMMCT Cloth nappy tree is a good site for selling them, you need to sign up first however.

Lots are sold on Ebay but I don't know how they get around the ruling.

NinkyNonker · 12/11/2011 20:14

I think they list them as new then just say in the description if they are used, iyswim. Then just hope they don't get reported or booted.

TandB · 12/11/2011 20:22

I'm gross obviously. About half of our nappies are second hand.

And I am selling some bambootys, applecheeks and blueberries if anyone is interested. Grin

deemented · 12/11/2011 20:23

Lucilliana - You really do have ishoo's, don't you dear?? Hmm

The poo gets flushed away, mostly, except when they are very little and ebf, just throw it all in the machine and stick it on.

deemented · 12/11/2011 20:25

Cloth Nappy Addicts is a good place to sell as well. And theres a few groups on facebook too. Oh and UKPL have a nappy board too. Oh and here of course.

I'm currently debating wether to sell the pretties that DS3 has grown out of to fund nappies for DC5...

WhoMovedMyCheeseToast · 12/11/2011 20:26

Thank you, I will try those sites, and if anyone on here interested, send me a msg. Have got loads of both all-in-ones and really good quality "Chinese prefolds" in unbleached organic muslin. God they are lovely, I really let myself & kids down not using them!!!!

WhoMovedMyCheeseToast · 12/11/2011 20:27

Oh, and lovely wraps to go over the prefolds, of course...

deemented · 12/11/2011 20:28

Wraps, you say??? What size, colour and fasteings?

Nevertooearlyforcake · 12/11/2011 20:30

I got lots of mine second hand, it being gross didn't occur to me. You cam't sell them on eBay now though (you could a few years ago, that's where mine came from). I freecycled mine, had numerous takers. Would have hated to have had to bin them!

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 12/11/2011 20:33

Have to very strongly agree that putting piles of disposable nappies complete with their baby poos straight in to landfill is about 10,000 times grosser than putting a clean washable cloth nappy on another baby's bum.

at "putting your baby through" wearing a cloth nappy that has been worn by another baby before. Gosh, all those poor babies having ewww ewww nightmares!

RomanKindle · 12/11/2011 20:37

Not gross at all. I wouldn't wear someone elses knickers but there's no need cos you can get a multipack for about a quid in the supermarket. If push came to shove though and they had been soaked in Napisan and washed on a high temp and I had no knickers then I probably would.
I used cheapo terry squares so did buy new but had I wanted to use those fancy all-in-one jobbies I'd have had to buy second hand.

WhoMovedMyCheeseToast · 12/11/2011 20:39

Deemented, let me catalogue them (yes, I have that many...) tomorrow and I will post a list on this thread. Xx

deemented · 12/11/2011 20:41

If it helps, i'm after boyish or GN larges, preferably with poppers, but don't really mind applix Smile

Georgimama · 12/11/2011 20:46

If you are the sort of nutter person who takes their own sheets to a hotel then obviously you are going to have issues with second hand nappies. I have terry nappies for DD not only worn by DS, but worn by me. They are 30 years old and it's only by the label I can tell them apart from the mothercare ones bought for DS 4 years ago. And I bought the motherease wraps second hand on ebay.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 12/11/2011 20:46

OP, have you never, ever, crashed at a mate's house (maybe as a student, perhaps crashed there after a night out) and gone home the next day in a pair of clean, borrowed pants? Blimey, I used to do that all the time as a student!

For those who think that it's the thought of it that icks them out, please do remember not to force your issues onto your babies. DS2 is in washables much of the time, and virtually all of them are pre-used. They're cheap that way and came to me beautifully laundered and absolutely fine. (They're not now, they're pretty stained - must do a strip-wash. Blush) For some reason, ebay refuses to let sellers sell clean, used nappies this way, but there are loads of other places that do. Cloth nappies are pretty indestructible and for them to serve several babies has to be many, many times better for all of us than to use disposables.

RomanKindle · 12/11/2011 20:48

Ebay have rules about second hand underwear to try and stop pervs from buying used adult pants.

Lucilliana · 12/11/2011 20:49

Of all the posts, the one that made me laugh the most was the one that says she can use her old pants for polishing. I almost pee laughing.
