to wonder if MN can actually agree on there being a person in the public eye who we all admire?

Is there any celebrity well known person that is admired/deemed acceptable by the whole of MN?

I doubt it.

Grin

I'll start by throwing Lauren Laverne and Timmy Mallet into the mix.

OP posts:
TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/03/2011 08:25

I'm also throwing into the mix

Gary Barlow
Dermot O'Leary

Both seem like bloody nice blokes.

HubertVonRumple · 26/03/2011 08:26

I second/third/whatever Peter Kay - seems like a genuinely nice bloke and very funny.

Russell Howard - also v. funny and I love the things he picks for a bit of 'good news' at the end of his show.

Dame Kelly Holmes - not only has she lifted the profile of athletics in the whole country but I know a couple of people who have met her and said she is really lovely.

HubertVonRumple · 26/03/2011 08:28

Titasalina - good call on Gary Barlow - he'll go on my list too.

Also I like Miranda Hart.

pointydog · 26/03/2011 08:34

I can't stick Peter Kay

52Girls · 26/03/2011 08:37

No to Gary barlow, Davina, James corden, dermot o,
peter kay

Yes to Annie Lennox, julie Walters

TaudrieTattoo · 26/03/2011 08:39

Hang on - who eliminated Dolly?

Bring her back!

She can share the plinth with Camilla Batman-thingy.

Men?

Now I'm struggling. Erm...I can't think of a single one that hasn't let me down somehow. They always seem all right, then say something that makes me think "tosser."

pointydog · 26/03/2011 08:40

I don't like camilla whatsit either

TaudrieTattoo · 26/03/2011 08:45

Okay, just Dolly then.

No Batman, no men.

pointydog · 26/03/2011 08:48

Not keen on Dolly at all.

itsalarf · 26/03/2011 09:07

Yes to Camila. Why was Dame Judi not taken up? Meryl? I love her. Just luvvy enough. Talented and has normal family life, and looks normal too.

FellatioNelson · 26/03/2011 09:08

I think Peter Kay is an arrogant knobber in RL. So. It looks like it's just Rolf then.

Has anyone said no to Rolf? (of course not - how could they?)

TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/03/2011 09:08

Whats wrong with Gary Barlow? He is nice, he hasn't cheated, he makes nice music from his face.... lol

So where are we on our Princes? WIlls or Harry (if we can forgive the Nazi thing)

TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/03/2011 09:08

I have no fond feelings about Rolf, he is a little annoying tbh.

FellatioNelson · 26/03/2011 09:10

I love GB but I don't think it is universally mutual.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/03/2011 09:11

Gah! Poor Gary. Sad

bronze · 26/03/2011 09:17

Why are my nice suggestions being ignored (apart from bees and grimma thank you) In fact noones really eliminated them either so they should be in the running. humph

52Girls · 26/03/2011 10:19

You're quite correct when you say Liking GB is not universally mutual. I can't stand TT, any of 'em ! Smile GB looks like he's up his own arse (to me).

Defo yes to Camilla and Marian Keyes.

52Girls · 26/03/2011 10:20

I like Emma Freud too.

caramelwaffle · 26/03/2011 10:59

Johnny Depp - no.
As lush (tee hee, what a word) as he is, he us a huge supporter of Roman Polanski - as had been pointed out.

A RE-Vote for Dolly P.

caramelwaffle · 26/03/2011 11:00
  • he is a huge supporter...
caramelwaffle · 26/03/2011 11:02

Oh, Gok Wan!

Yes. Thrice.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/03/2011 11:06

So Gok Wan is a contender.. yes?

I have just finished his autobiograpy and love him even more. I was to squish him to my womanly breast.

BelligerentGhoul · 26/03/2011 11:20

Good God no to Gary Barlow and Peter Kay.

And no, we can't forget the Nazi thing re: Prince H. I was told I couldn't have Charles, so we deffo can't have his nasty little son.

GabbyLoggon · 26/03/2011 11:39

ALL admiring someone ? Not realistic, we are talking famous people and it is only the image we know.

But...I suppose Tommy Cooper, Mother Theresa, Eric Morecamble, Shirley Temple, Diana at her death, David Attenbrough.....would be popular with a large section of society

Privately? two of them may well be unbearable. There are people who dont like famous people on principal.

DilysPrice · 26/03/2011 11:44

Dolly yes, yes, yes. As I repeatedly tell my DD and all her X-Factor wannabe mates, performing is a crap career unless you create and keeping the intellectual property rights (no I may not be Cool Mum, but I am right). Dolly is a fine role model in that regard.

Would go along with David Attenborough. And Bill Gates definitely, I don't think anyone's actually come out against him, just said that they know IT chaps who disapprove - random IT chaps don't get votes unless they're on Mumsnet.

I would second the lovely William Wales actually - he's got a proper job rescuing idiots people in his helicopter, and he lives in Anglesey which is quite cool IMO.
