Is there any celebrity well known person that is admired/deemed acceptable by the whole of MN?

I doubt it.

Grin

I'll start by throwing Lauren Laverne and Timmy Mallet into the mix.

Sue Perkins, India Knight, Liz Smith and Sue Johnson (Johnston?).

CatIsSleepy · 25/03/2011 20:11

gotta be dave attenborough surely
he's lovely, humane, wise, intelligent, all of that good stuff.

i do also like Mary Portas alot. She is Always Right. And Caitlin Moran always makes me laugh. Oh, and Joan Bakewell is ace.

madamimadam · 25/03/2011 21:30

I'm happy to accept Camila Batmanghelidjh as my nominal MN monarch Smile

I don't been to be a Dollybore but Grimma, doesn't Dollywood employ - apart from almost all of the Parton family - a lot of the people in the area? I thought that was one reason why she built it (probably with her own beautifully-manicured hands...)?

And what do we think to Christine Lagarde, France's finance minister? It would be a close run thing between her and Dolly for me. I did like this, in a recent Guardian piece:
'she complained that the euro had been given "fragile foundations" by its "founding fathers": "Founding fathers not mothers, notice. Regrettably there was no woman at the table at the time . . .'

Wonder how long it'll take for us to have a female Chancellor of the ExchequerHmm?

Lulie110 · 25/03/2011 21:35

Have not spreadsheeted, but from memory:

Dolly knocked out, a lot. Joanna Lumley doing well until 19.09, but she's out now.

Quite a few with one vote, but Camila B. has tons of yays and no nays.

Caitlin Moran has 4 yeses, no nos.

Do we crown her (Camila)? Queen Camila!! Shall we tell her?

baskingseals · 25/03/2011 21:42

hold on

what about Brian Blessed?

Lulie110 · 25/03/2011 21:45

oh, a first mention for the Bearded Shouty one! (unless my memory fails me. Which is hasn't)

Lulie110 · 25/03/2011 21:46

...but my typing did fail me alas.

BitOfFun · 25/03/2011 21:48

God, no. Brian Blessed gives me sheer rage. I want to punch him repeatedly whenever he appears on television. I had to bold that, sorry. But I feel very strongly that he is one of the most irritating people on the planet.

NotaMopsa · 25/03/2011 21:55

i second that BOF i'd love to box his ears once i'd gagged him with some festering socks

madamimadam · 25/03/2011 21:56

Nooooo! Dolly can't have been eliminated!

Right then, may I nominate Christine Lagarde as the Next-in-line-to-Camilla?

Queen Camila, eh? (Well, it was only a matter of time)

What saddens me is that I am more 'invested' in this here poll than any stage of Britain's Got Talent/Dancing on Ice/X Factor. How sad am I?

BelligerentGhoul · 25/03/2011 21:58

No to India Knight - I like some of her stuff but her diet book is the biggest load of rubbish I have ever spent 30p in a charity shop on.

baskingseals · 25/03/2011 21:58

so it's a no then Grin

still think Keith Lemon should at least be a runner up

Johnny Depp is a big supporter of Roman Polanski and thinks he did nothing wrong all those years ago.

who really repsects that ??

Ariesgirl · 25/03/2011 22:05

Julie Walters.

puffling · 25/03/2011 22:14

Brian Blessed made my uncle depressed. DU (am I the first to use this acronym?) wrote a short talking head play about Spartacus or something and asked the booming fellow to be it's star. BB professed to have great interest in the part then pleaded other commitments. DU felt mightily let down.

MsScarlett · 25/03/2011 22:18

I like Rolf Harris! He is lovely and multi-talented.

Hate most of the others mentiones above though...

Not many women mentioned, does this mean us women are incapable of admiring other women?

I like Debbie Harry and Norah Jones. Grin

puffling · 25/03/2011 22:24

Dr Pixie
Mr Time Team
The Snow Family
Stephen Fry

Sir Patrick Moore
Sam and Mark
Justin Tumble

Lulie110 · 25/03/2011 22:34

LOADS of women have been mentioned, we just have not reached consensus.

I am going to veto LORD Robert Winston as when I held a door open for an old man, he barged through imperiously (n front of the old man!). So, no, I cannot say I admire him!

So my memory bank now says that Camila is still in the lead, Julie Walters has c.4 votes and lots of people (incl. my fave of my suggestions, Steve Redgrave), have one or 2 votes - and no nos.

baskingseals · 26/03/2011 06:43

I'll second Julie Walters

Rannaldini · 26/03/2011 07:00

never Stephen Fry
misogynistic wanker

HelenBaaBaaBlackSheep · 26/03/2011 08:02

never heard of Camila before this thread

TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/03/2011 08:17

What about Gok Wan, he is sucessful despite a hard childhood and he is so lovely.

No to KarenBrady, my dad works with her, she is ment to be a right 'dont you know who I am' type.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/03/2011 08:18

Wha about one of our young Princes?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 26/03/2011 08:22
