Unpopular opinions part 3

Just happened upon the last one and liked it, so ...

I don't think The King's Speech is that great a film; I think the directing was often unimaginative, cliched and banal and the script obvious. And Helena Bonham Carter wasn't that good.

Salmotrutta · 23/03/2011 21:47

Yes boo - no utter meltdown moments, apart from one or two appalling gaffes. And as you say, they were rightly pulled back and we all moved on.
Yay! Grin

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 23/03/2011 21:53

PawPilot ...

PawPilot ...

PAWPILOT ...

I HATE THAT FUCKING PROGRAMME!!!!!

Grin
boosmummie · 23/03/2011 21:54

OSO is BANNED in my house. I fucking hate it. There's many more that I hate too, but that, today, is a whole other thread!!!!

Salmotrutta · 23/03/2011 21:55

Confused - PawPilot is a programme??

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 23/03/2011 21:59

Special Agent Oso is the programme, PawPilot his, ummm Blackberry? Grin

HE IS JUST SO STUPID!!!
(dont think this one is unpopular though, there was a thread recently...)

boosmummie · 23/03/2011 22:01

Well it is with me Grin HE is so stupid he wouldn't be able to work a BB - and even I have mastered mine.

CheerfulYank · 23/03/2011 23:29

Salmo you'd probably detest me...I'm pretty, erm, effervescent. :o

LeQ I knew somebody like that! Total hippy (not a bad thing as a rule) who lived in a teeny house crammed with crap. Her children ran all over town begging food, filthy, snotty noses, the whole bit. They went to kindergarten not knowing a single letter; she never taught them anything! They had absolutely no manners, etc. But she went on and on and on about how long she had nursed them for and "formula might as well be sewer water." Hmm

boosmummie · 24/03/2011 09:03

CheerfulYank I think the clue's in your name!!! YOu have a disclaimer though, IME all the americans I have ever known or worked with have been delightfully sunny in their disposition, and somehow it's a quality that is just inherent. English on the other hand are not generally! Grin

MrsSparkle · 24/03/2011 10:22

Agree the older children shouldn't interupt adults talking but any friend worth their salt will understand that when someone has toddlers, the conversation will be interupted at some point. A toddler is a toddler and doesn't understand about adults usually drivel conversation. Egnoring said toddler will just lead to more interuption and usually leads to the toddler doing something really naughty to get your attention. Any friend of mine who is offended by my 2 year old wanting attention from his mum is obviously not a friend worth having.

sieglinde · 24/03/2011 11:07

I liked the first three Harry Potters, but hated the later ones - sssooooo boring. I stopped trying after I went to sleep in the film of HP and the Goblet of Fire. Also hated The Amber Spyglass - what was with the stupid elephants on wheels? - and loathed all Dan Brown in all incarnations.

BringBackGoingForGold · 24/03/2011 12:24

I hate all Harry Potter ? books, films, associated marketing tosh ? and think grown-ups who read or watch them need to have a word with themselves. . Except in Christmas/Boxing Day/hangover scenarios, when it's acceptable to lie inert on the sofa in front of one and goggle at all the Brit national treasures who pop up.

While I loved the His Dark Materials series generally, I agree the last one had some seriously pants parts, especially Mary and the things on wheels and their bloody oil.

I don't think it's unpopular to loathe Dan Brown Smile. I did go to the first Da Vinci Code film though, but it was an Orange Wednesday half-price job and it was almost exclusively to see Paul Bettany.

BrainSurgeon · 24/03/2011 12:39

What a lovely unpopular opinions thread! Congrats OP!!!

I thought Slumdog millionaire was NOT a feel good movie. What went on in that film (and in real life) made me cry and hate the storyline with passion. Had an entire argument with DP on this so must be unpopular!

E320 · 24/03/2011 12:53

Poor grammar and spelling (in any of the languages I speak).
Bad manners or total lack of manners altogether.
Parents, who think they are their children's "best friends".
Words like: caring, meaningful, engage.
Any form of "mechandising" associated with a book or film.
So-called "celebs". What is their claim to fame? Are they outstandingly good at anything, that benefits the human race?
Unrealistic, low or no aspirations in young people.
Processed food - the human body was not designed to run on sweeties, pot noodles or chocolate. Doesn't anyone question the "goodness" of packaged food that costs less than its raw ingredients to buy?
The infiltration of Americanisms into the English language.
Complete lack of individual privacy, disguised as "the fight against terrorism".
24/7 global news coverage.
Information saturation - I once heard that 95% of the information we receive is of no practical or theoretical use to us, yet none of us has a pensieve, so we cannot "dump" it or delete it.
Cats (but that is probably only because I am allergic to them).
The fact that nobody has picked up on 29th April "also" being Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun's wedding anniversary - it's mine, too and I didn't know that until very recently, but I would have thought that the Palace PR might have researched the date a little more thoroughly, given the scandal caused by a certain young prince and his fancy-dress outfit.

sieglinde · 24/03/2011 14:01

So agree about grammar and spelling, and also hate people who say Hi to the concierge [should be a grave here] in Paris instead of bonjour - I mean, how HARD IS IT to learn one WORD? See also Italy, Spain, Germany...

Hate Mickey Ds and have never taken children there.

The way amazon etc address me by Xtian name, preceded by 'Hi'.

The word supportive.

Botox faces. Just a new way to be ugly.

BrainSurgeon · 24/03/2011 14:56

Just noticed there are only 60 posts left on this thread (well 59 now!) and wanted to congratulate OP again - will keep looking at the thread to see if it makes it to the end without exploding, like some predicted at the beginning!
Are you dissappointed OP? Wink

BringBackGoingForGold · 24/03/2011 14:58

No! I never wanted it to explode; I was genuinely just up for sharing my unpopular opinion about The King's Speech and curious about what others might come up with. I'm enjoying it. I think we're all being pretty civilised Smile

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 24/03/2011 15:07

I adore Harry Potter. (But then, I did start reading them when I was technically still a child. Well, a minor anyway! :) )

If people mix up your and you're I automatically think they're stupid. Not there stupid, not their stupid, they're stupid. :)

I hate people who whine about Americans. We're great. :o

CheerfulYank · 24/03/2011 15:08

And I don't think tax-payer's money should go to schools espousing religion that is not their own. Even Jesus wanted seperation of church and state. So there.

AlpinePony · 24/03/2011 15:13

I would send my son to a private faith school in a flash (if there one within a 200km drive).

boosmummie · 24/03/2011 16:30

sieglinde where I live it seems that 9 out of 10 of the women (and a lot of the men) have botox, and that's the least of the work they've had done. The entire place would just melt in a fire.... There are sooooo many Bride of Wildestein (sp?) types here it's very hard to keep a straight face at times.

Yes BringBack I am sooo pleased that this thread has pretty much stayed on track. Minor blips aside, it's a been an absolute joy to watch and join in with for the past 5 days.

Cheerful You are great! I absolutely can't stand the your/you're and their/there/they're crap. Yep. It's just stupid Grin I am a pedant of a quite high order...

Salmotrutta · 24/03/2011 17:45

CheerfulYank - I'm sure I would like you rather than detest you! Grin

I have utter disdain for people who think dolphins actually want to swim with them. Dolphins are just secretly laughing up their sleeves at the dumb humans and taking the piss.

sieglinde · 24/03/2011 17:52

Actually, boosmummy, a straight face is the only kind Botox allows. Grin.

And Salmo, turns out dolphins are a bunch of rapists when young and - erm - desiring. Though they also have intriguing gay sex lives, which rarely gets mentioned in the PR for swimalongs. So probably not the harmonious presences on the posters...

Salmotrutta · 24/03/2011 18:00

Grin - I know sieglinde. Suffice to say I know a bit about this from colleagues back in my previous career.
Dolphins also kill porpoises up here in Scotland - nasty wee beggars they can be.

CheerfulYank · 24/03/2011 18:14

Yeah, those dolphins are right randy ones I've heard.

I think it's ok to be a bit PFB with your PFB. :) Better than the opposite!

I think there is something in us that survives physical death and goes elsewhere.

I do not trust people who don't have books in their house. (Did I already say that?)

I love Christmas AND

Smutty romance novels. I do! If there's a heroine described as "feisty" and a picture of a misty castle on the cover, I am on it. But I also believe that everyone should know at least the basic synopsis of the classic novels.

boosmummie · 24/03/2011 18:27

..... I was referring to mine....Grin Not for me thanks!

Yes you did say that already cheerful but never mind!

Grin at the Dolphins. Bloody tourists here get up at sparrow's fart to go and 'swim' with them. I will forever be laughing at them safe in the knowledge that the dolphins also feel they are dumb humans!
