Just happened upon the last one and liked it, so ...

I don't think The King's Speech is that great a film; I think the directing was often unimaginative, cliched and banal and the script obvious. And Helena Bonham Carter wasn't that good.

Yep YouTry. any child up at 5am is NOT cute!!!

However CheerfulYank I think my DD3 may be cuter than any kid around, particularly when she says 'I lob you' on waking... Grin

Caron1968 · 23/03/2011 08:49

Book groups are Bollocks.

Staying in the same bed attire for two to three days is lovely, especially satisfing when I chuck a pair of tracky bottoms on over them and pick up my daughter from the nursery.

I hate DS,DD, DP etc it is absolutely cunting bollocks.

I love the word rapscallion.

I believe that today is another day closer to your death.

UnquietDad · 23/03/2011 09:22

I have no pets and never had any. Never wanted any as a child. No interest whatsoever in sharing my house with animals, and neither has DW. It doesn't seem high on DD and DS's list of priorities. Animals smell, are annoying and are too much trouble. Some people apparently would consider me "untrustworthy" because of this Hmm

fedupofnamechanging · 23/03/2011 09:30

I wouldn't UnquietDad. I feel the same way, so would consider you to be perfectly reasonable in this point of view.

People who want smelly hamsters in their kitchens are the odd ones Wink

TheCrackFox · 23/03/2011 09:46

Mary Portas's hair is vile, it makes her look like an elongated Jimmy Krankie.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 23/03/2011 09:55

UnquietDad - children smell, are annoying and can be too much trouble too! Grin

sieglinde · 23/03/2011 11:17

Oooh, I know. [special triumphant grin]

I am Roman Catholic, don't believe we should have women priests, and prefer mass in Latin. There! Trumped you all. Grin That has to be the MOST unpopular, and to make it a bit worse, I'm a feminist as WELL.

BringBackGoingForGold · 23/03/2011 11:54

Nice one, sieglinde!

I don't have any religious beliefs or affiliations, but I agree in principle with the mass in Latin thing. Stuff like that just sounds more ... profound, somehow, when it's in a liturgical language Smile

OP posts:
sieglinde · 23/03/2011 12:02

Yes, I like Orthodox Jewish and Orthodox Greek too. A Jewish cantor I once heard in Chania was one of the most beautiful, melancholy sounds ever. But perhaps this isn't quite unpopular enough? So let me add that I also love Wagner's operas, and Hemingway's short stories. THERE!

BringBackGoingForGold · 23/03/2011 12:19

Oh, I like Wagner's operas too. Wish I could say I liked Hemingway (stories or anything else) just to piss people off, but I don't.

I do, however, think that, if it's fine for parents to take time off to go to kids' school plays and things (and I think it IS fine, don't get me wrong!), it should also be fine for people without kids to take time off to support family and friends in similar ways e.g. if a friend is performing in something, or to meet someone from an airport, or to accompany someone to an important healthcare appointment.

OP posts:
sieglinde · 23/03/2011 12:24

Oh, I agree. How about a work-life balance, guys? And you should try Hem again, as you seem a delightfully wrong-thinking person. Just forget all about the Old Man and the effing Sea, and go for the gritty - Up in Michigan and Big Two-Hearted River.

BringBackGoingForGold · 23/03/2011 12:27

OK, I will, but I'll need to take a deep breath and a good long run-up Smile

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 23/03/2011 13:04

I take off work all the time...I used to be very coy about it, all "Oh erm...have an appointment....very important..." and now I just say "I'll need a sub tomorrow, I'm taking DS to storytime at the library." :)

I always want to tell neurotic people to take a good long nap and then see they how they feel.

I don't consider people who don't like dogs untrustworthy, I just feel deeply sorry for them. Wink People who have no books in their homes do frighten me though. I always think they have too much time on their hands and probably have people in bits under their floorboards or something.

I love, love, LOVE Glee.

Sci-Fi/Paranormal shows are usually my favorites. Fringe is top of the list now, but I love Battlestar Galactica, X-Files, Torchwood, Lost, etc. I got bored when I tried to watch Dr. Who though.

CheerfulYank · 23/03/2011 15:15

I'm the same, LeQ. When my son doesn't listen we ask him what "obey" means and he says, "Obey means do what you are told." People give me the cat's bum face for using that word, but what else would you call doing what you're told to do? Confused

sieglinde · 23/03/2011 15:21

Well, now I can be obnoxious in the OPPOSITE way, and I bet my view is MORE UNPOPULAR. I despise people who force their children to eat the sh*t on the children's menu because it's cheaper, while tucking into something yummy that's four times the price.

CheerfulYank · 23/03/2011 16:08

I do that too unless there's a decent option on the children's menu sieg. Usually we just get an extra plate for DS and he has some of what DH and I are having. Portion control for us! :)

Salmotrutta · 23/03/2011 16:51

I don't like looking at photographs of other people's holidays/weddings/family/dogs/cats/ ........... it's boring. I'd rather stick forks in my eyes.

And I agree with leQueen - other people who stop the flow of a conversation just so we can listen to the tripe pearls of wisdom uttered by their offspring are rude and ill-mannered.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 23/03/2011 16:53

CheerfulYank I'm watching Fringe, still cant decide if I like it or not! Grin

I think vegetarians who try to force meat-free food on their pets are clearly morons

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 23/03/2011 16:57

I enjoy showing my holiday photos etc because I know everyone hates it! Mwahahahaha!!

boosmummie · 23/03/2011 16:57

Evening-ish Ladies,

allsquare Shock seriously? People do that??? 'Cos cats don't catch mice and birds do they. GOsh how silly of me to have believed that all these years!!! Have you stepped up to deep-fried Mars Bars today for DS? Grin

boosmummie · 23/03/2011 16:58

x-posted with you there dear allsquare. Funny. I am not remotely surprised at that!!!!!!!!!!

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 23/03/2011 17:01

Yup, DH worked with a woman who only fed her poor cat veggie food :( and she was telling him we were cruel (Hmm) to feed rats to the snakes...

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 23/03/2011 17:02

PS, DS had beans on toast today :)

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 23/03/2011 17:02

Think we might have a takeaway for tea though? Indian? Vindaloo? Grin
