the comment he made to that lad in Jamies Dream School,
was appalling,
(for people who didnt see)
there was no provocation the class was joking around about evolution, about animals are faster and this lad pointed to his muscle ..and Starkey said,

'you're so fat im surprised you can move!'
I felt for the lad, my blood was boiling
when will teachers learn humiliation does not work as a teaching technique!!!

sorry rant over,

Now as a 18 year old girl I would have paid attention if Dan Snow had been the teacher.

Though tbh I would have listened to Starkey too

BoffinMum · 07/03/2011 10:33

I would have listened to him and probably taken on the noisy people in the breaks, as well. But then I was a swot and a proto-teacher so I am hardly typical. I was the kind of pupil who stood up on the school bus to tell them to behave properly and invariably they did!

YANBU.

I agree with you too. When will teachers learn humiliation does not work as a teaching technique?

Although, it does not surprise me. I was so impressed by his first words book that I also purchased his book entitled, "What do people do all day?" How wrong I was, and I have not been a fan of his since.

Seemingly, women are either nurses or staying at home, waiting for their office-suit clad husbands to bring home bunches of flowers.

Still, he is entitled to his opinion when writing his books and I am entitled not to purchase them. However, in a classroom environment, teasing and humiliation is not on.

I wonder what Mr Starkey would have felt if the boy replied, "Mr Coffin Dodger, I may be fat but I am younger than you, and I will still be moving when you are looking up at the daises in a few years time." I bet Mr Starkey would not like that.

The fat kid was being exploited by C4 in the same way that all the thin kids and all the viewers of this ludicrous trash were. Jame Oliver is a stupid chef whose ego needs regular massage by making this crap. The real obscenity is that any parent, social worker or probation officer would allow vulnerable children to participate in this freak show. It is one step away from Jeremy Kyle.
