I've been before - I got some ice-cream and saw it's complicated.

What's out at the moment?

BooyFuckingHoo · 01/03/2011 10:11

i would only go alone if there was something i really wanted to see but no-one would come with me.

TrillianAstra · 01/03/2011 10:11

YABU.

It's not as if going to the cinema is a very sociable activity, you sit in the dark and (hopefully) don't talk much.

Get sweets from a shop and sneak them in, don't buy the overpriced cinema sweets!

bupcakesandcunting · 01/03/2011 10:11

I would go alone as DH is a miserable arse who likes shit films.

prettymuchapixiegirl · 01/03/2011 10:11

I would love to go to the cinema on my own. In fact I think I might well do that the next time there's a film on that DH doesn't want to see....

FannyFifer · 01/03/2011 10:12

I LOVE going on my own. Grin

Get nachos and minstrels, go wild!

nikki1978 · 01/03/2011 10:13

I go alone if I want to see a film that noone else does. Usually girly weepy ones Grin

MrsKwazii · 01/03/2011 10:13

Nope, it's a fab idea - and you get to eat all the snacks yourself! I have to have minstrels or peanut m&ms at the pictures ^but I buy mine with the weekly shop and smuggle 'em in>

True Grit is meh. Black Swan is supposed to be good - if rather melodramatic. Or the National Theatre is broadcasting Frankenstein to cinemas across the country in the next couple of weeks - Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch. Score!

On topic but don't want to hijack, our local cinema have started searching bags for contraband goodies. I am planning on going with a friend next week to see the Colin Firth-a-Thon and I'm NOT buying overpriced shite from the cinema.

If I refuse to let them search me, I am within my rights, no? They can't just insist on searching me, they have no legal right, do they?

CMOTdibbler · 01/03/2011 10:14

I love going on my own - just me and my sweeties Grin

WincyEtNightie · 01/03/2011 10:14

I haven't done it for ages (pesky small kids Grin) but I love going to the cinema alone. It feels like a real "Me Time" - sorry, bleugh I know -thing to do.

Popcorn or minstrels. Never nachos!

MrsKwazii · 01/03/2011 10:14

Sometimes DH and I go to the cinema together and watch different films. It's brill Grin

steamedtreaclesponge · 01/03/2011 10:14

I love going to the cinema on my own! Nothing to distract you from the film.

I agree with TA, get some sweets beforehand and smuggle them in. I used to get pic'n'mix from Woolworths before its sad demise Sad

EdgarAleNPie · 01/03/2011 10:14

god, i'd love to go alone.

to the right film.
i saw LOTR by myself. it was great - you can really immerse yourself in the film without distraction.

WincyEtNightie · 01/03/2011 10:15

bupcakes, I'd guess that they can't force you to let you search your bag but they'd be within their rights to refuse you entrance if you didn't (as it is a private space). That's just my hunch though.

AtYourCervix · 01/03/2011 10:16

think i'll see the kings speech. or never let me go.

ZacharyQuack · 01/03/2011 10:16

I've been a few times by myself on a weekday afternoon. Almost had the theatre to myself - bliss!

bupcakesandcunting · 01/03/2011 10:17

That's what I was thinking too WincyEt

Cies · 01/03/2011 10:17

yabu, I love going on my own. dh doesn't like the cinema (claustrophic thing) and since having ds I can only go in the afternoons. I love just concentrating on the film and not having anyone to distract me.

AtYourCervix · 01/03/2011 10:18

would it be very sad to take a flask of coffee?

OP posts:
Concordia · 01/03/2011 10:18

yabu, when i moved to a new town years ago before dh and dc i often went on my own. i think it was good for me.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 01/03/2011 10:19

I went once on my own and ended up sitting a few seats away from a wanker.

An actual wanker.

madonnawhore · 01/03/2011 10:19

I love going to the cinema on my own. I do it all the time. It's a guilty pleasure. Not pathetic at all!

MrsKwazii · 01/03/2011 10:19

Let them look in your bag Bupcakes, but secrete the sweeties about your person in smaller bags if needed Grin. They always use the excuse that they're looking for recording equipment at my cinema. I know that they're really looking for contraband sweeties.

TBH, the ticket prices are so high that buying nibbles too becomes tres expensive. I resent paying over the odds for stuff I can get in ASBO.
