From what I have seen on MN, it seems I am in a very small minority not to have a problem with porn? Its a complete non-issue to me whether my DH uses porn.
I just dont understand it? Yes, I am aware that women can be exploited, but that is true of so many other things too. And it seems to be the porn itself that is the problem, rather than the working conditions that bothers people anyway.
What is so bad about watching people having sex? To anyone that says its poorly acted, why does that matter so much? Lots of TV programmes are poorly acted, that doesnt stop people enjoying them!

I obviously dont think AIBU, but am curious to know why people would think I am? And okay, part of me is hoping that the use of porn will have a less extreme reaction away from the Relationships board?

Dont think IABU [facepalm] doh!

What's so wrong with having no interest in watching people having sex, more like?
Porn is all about aggression, come shots and frankly it's not something I need in my life. And I really don't like the idea of my DH using porn which, in the main, uses young, wildly fake women that seemingly enjoy nothing more than double penetration and come all over their faces.

sofaqueenie · 22/02/2011 10:44

I too have no problem with it. I once found a porn mag under the bed, so when he came home I was in the bath reading it! His face was a picture!

We use it together too, we only have a small collection of naughty films but it's enough :)

ThePosieParker · 22/02/2011 10:44

I really think people that use porn are sad and pathetic, probably grossly unfair....but still.

MmeLindt · 22/02/2011 10:45

I thought the same as you when I first started posting on MN.

Since then I have learned more about the exploitation that goes on to make porn and I have changed my mind.

Of course women can be exploited in other areas, but does that make this right?

The reality for many women working in the porn industry is a life devoid of happiness. Why would anyone think that is acceptable?

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 22/02/2011 10:45

So whats wrong with a woman enjoying double penetration? Surely thats her prerogative?

OP posts:
SardineQueen · 22/02/2011 10:45

There is no way that your views are in a "small minority" on MN.

And if you think that AIBU is the place to come for "less extreme reactions" then you are either taking the piss, a bit dim, or very very new to MN!

ThePosieParker · 22/02/2011 10:46

watch Jenna Jameson on Oprah....she's one of the most famous and successful porn stars ever, even she says hideous things about it.

FlamingOBingo · 22/02/2011 10:46

My concern about porn is what it teaches young people about what is normal sex. Studies have shown that teenage boys have very unrealistic expectations of normal women's bodies because of watching porn.

Also, women are usually taking a submissive role, which gives a skewed view of how sex ought to be equal.

ThePosieParker · 22/02/2011 10:46

Her prerogative, sure. For someone to watch, yuck.

MmeLindt · 22/02/2011 10:46

allsquare
Do you think that the women being filmed are "enjoying double penetration"? Really?

sofaqueenie · 22/02/2011 10:47

PosieParker - I assure you I'm not sad nor pathetic. Quite the opposite actually.

Please keep your nasty, sweeping comments to yourself, yes?

ThePosieParker · 22/02/2011 10:47

If you can bury the truth that much commercial porn is exploitative and objectifies and dehumanises women, wank away.

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 22/02/2011 10:48

Sardine I thought AIBU might get less biased responses, less extreme to one side or the other.

OP posts:
FlamingOBingo · 22/02/2011 10:48

Do you really think the women in porn films actaully all want to be involved in double penetration? I think that's a very naive view.

ThePosieParker · 22/02/2011 10:48

sofa....it's what I think, sorry.

ThePosieParker · 22/02/2011 10:49

Allsquare....really? You thought AIBU would get less extreme responses? Well I guess you can put that thought in the same box as porn stars are not used and abused.

sofaqueenie · 22/02/2011 10:49

Gawd, I'm off.

This is going to turn into a mahooooosive bun fight!

allsquareknickersnofurcoat · 22/02/2011 10:50

MmeLindt - not necessarily no, thats not what I said. But a lot of people who disagree with porn assume that no women would be interested in anything other than "normal" sex, and cant possibly fathom that a woman may enjoy something like that.

OP posts:
SardineQueen · 22/02/2011 10:50

How do you know that the woman you are watching is enjoying double penetration or has drugged herself to the eyeballs to get through it?

You have no idea, and that's the problem.

Also I think it's the case that a much greater proprtion of women who work in this industry were sexually abused when they were children than the general population - which makes sense when you thikn about it. Will try and find some stats when get back from teh beach.

I think for me there would be no problem with porn if I could have a cast-iron guarantee that the people doing it were doing it because they were total exhibitionists and probably if everyone was doing it for free. Genuine amateur porn with some kind of guarantee on it.

However in the current situation where porn is a multi billion dollar business, and many people are exploited, and you have no way of telling what the performers you are watching actually feel about it all... While that is the situation I think that watching porn is a dubious move ethically.

BuzzLiteBeer · 22/02/2011 10:51

If porn is perfectly acceptable to you would you be happy for your daughter to be a porn star?

ShirleyKnot · 22/02/2011 10:52

"To anyone that says its poorly acted, why does that matter so much?" Is this a joke?

I'm pretty sure that the people with objections to the porn industry aren't fuelled by some kind of desire for Laurence Olivier to be having sex with Meryl Streep in order for it to be considered ok.

I've never liked pornography. I think it's horrendously exploitative. I don't preach to my friends who like it, and I don't expect to be preached to by those that think it's ok and to be held up as some kind of "frigid, man hating, sexless being" which is often the counter argument thos who are anti-porn are subjected to.

ThePosieParker · 22/02/2011 10:52

I have my own share of sexual experience and have never felt the need to watch someone else and would, honestly, consider myself some sort of failure if I had to watch someone else to turn me on. People that watch porn are the same as people that snort coke, wilfully ignorant about the truth behind their pleasure.

nickytwotimes · 22/02/2011 10:52

nothing wrong with watching people have sex, if it floats your boat, but everything wrong with an industry which objectifies women and which has permeated mainstream to such a degree many young men have no idea what a real live woman looks like underneath her clothes.

worraliberty · 22/02/2011 10:52

I love a good porn film now and then OP. Me and my husband have a little collection and will probably watch one or two a month on average. We've never got to the end of one yet Blush

Sex, nudity or porn has never been an issue in our marriage but each to their own. I totally respect that everyone is different when it comes to these things.
