Please tell me there are some normal, non social climbing Hampshire sorts out there, that are not psuedo (how do you spell that?) country folk, up their own arses tossers with massive 4wd cars that run you off the road and have never heard of state education? GRRRRR moved from the North and finding Hampshire tricky!

Another in Hampshire
No Boden
Wellies for dog walking
State school
4x4 because my DH loves off roading - walk the school run whatever the weather

LittleMissHissyFit · 07/02/2011 19:45

At Ninah, at least it wasn't in Alton, I saw the same hair do on literally half a dozen women - chopped short assymetric cut with blonde fringe, varying shades of plum back.... very strange...

looked good on some I hasten to add... Wink

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/02/2011 22:08

LittleMissHissyFit - are you in Alton ? had they all been to Toni and Guy ?

teahouse · 07/02/2011 22:34

Hampshire born and bred - long time single mum and live on a council estate

LittleMissHissyFit · 07/02/2011 23:22

No, grew up in a village about 5m away.

Hmm, could be a T&G thing, have seen similar in Fleet too....

Slugontoast · 07/02/2011 23:44

LMHF, I know your village!

Yes, ordinary folk shop at Tesco, Londis or the charity shops, and get the no. 10 bus or train, while the Boden-clad ladies do Ocado and pop over to the farm shop in Audis or 4x4s (or Audi 4x4s) for dinner-party nibbles, am I right?

LittleMissHissyFit · 08/02/2011 00:11

That's where I am now. There are a lot of Veh veh posh villages about, this one, erm not so much...

:-)

stovies · 08/02/2011 00:26

Has to be Waitrose in Yateley! I have twice nearly been run over in the Hook Tesco car park. On another occasion, an old dear just kept on reversing until she hit the trolley I was unloading at the back of my car. Good job the kids were already inside!

And I shudder at the though of having to do a weekly shop at The Meadows.

LittleMissHissyFit · 08/02/2011 00:31

Tesco Car Park in Hook has indeed some colourful types!

Mind you the Community Centre Car Park at drop off/pick up is pretty hairy at times..

They have a waitrose in yateley? Shock

clutterqueen · 08/02/2011 00:45

Hello massivepants! Am northern too. Know what you mean but tend to avoid those types as there are enough normal folk to be friends with. It doesn't quite feel like home yet tho! Haven't read whole thread as on mobile but will check back in to see if there's a meet up.

Slugontoast · 08/02/2011 00:46

I would imagine there are more accidents in Yateley Waitrose than Hook Tesco, as the car-park layout is a bit crap.

For colourful types, I'd go to BB market!

DaftApeth · 08/02/2011 08:16

I think, like anywhere, Hants has a range of people from all backgrounds but where I grew up, not a particularly wide cultural diversity.

I now live in London but grew up in the forest. You can see Sway Tower from my parent's and my sister's houses, so I am familiar with lots of these places.

I suspect my sister would fit the op's description, although the 4x4 is pretty necessary where they live. I keep trying t persuade my parents to get one but they have so far avoided it and just get stuck at the end of their track every now and again!

HettiesMum · 08/02/2011 08:31

I'm in Hants, sometimes wear Boden, always wear wellies for walking the dog and am perfectly normal. What's being northern / southern got to do with anything ? I suppose it doesn't help if you have a chip on your shoulder.

Niecie · 08/02/2011 09:30

Did anybody see that a road in Portsmouth had the highest levels of violent crime in the country according to that new crime statistics website?

Hampshire? Posh? My arse!

Like anywhere else I reckon it has it's posh people but so does the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales where living in a National Park puts buying a house in the area beyond the reach of lot of ordinary people. Cheshire is another very wealthy county. Last time I looked they were all oop North.

LongtimeinBrussels · 08/02/2011 09:41

Niecie, which road was that? I come from Portsmouth and my parents are still there?

Niecie · 08/02/2011 09:57

Guildhall Walk - looks like it is in the city centre. Apparently the stats come from the Governments Crime map.

The article says it is fine during the day but not at night. The woman quoted in the paper says she isn't allowed to open her kebab shop on weekend night without a doorman! (I know I shouldn't but that did make me LOL Blush)

LongtimeinBrussels · 08/02/2011 13:26

Guildhall Walk was somewhere we would never have gone in the evening when we were teenagers as it was well known for prostitutes (at that time at least!).

sharbie · 08/02/2011 13:28

ooooooo i 've been there loads of time as teen and didn't know that

MrsFruitcake · 08/02/2011 13:32

Another Hampshire type.

Have lived here since I was 12, do wear Boden (I admit that) and have one pair of wellies for feeding the chooks in when its wet.

Where I live, I am very much an outsider, small village, lots of hoorays and Mums with kids called Jemima who attend private school. My child goes to the local Primary.

Can be hard at times, but on the whole, I like Hampshire. Smile

mistressploppy · 08/02/2011 13:35

Hi Massivepants, I'm a Glaswegian in Hampshire so I feel your pain. I'm normal but have had to learn to swear less since moving here Grin

LongtimeinBrussels · 08/02/2011 14:17

Sharbie, I'm very old though so things may have changed!

sharbie · 08/02/2011 15:36

brussels - i am only a few yrs behind you Grin

LongtimeinBrussels · 08/02/2011 20:10

Ah yes, so you are :)

justonemorethen · 08/02/2011 20:22

I'm East Hants. I live near Steep who ever mentioned that. Meet in the Harrow!!! poshest pub that really isn't.
Petersfield is chocker full of northern/london/immigrates who have other halves in the city. Complete shortage of country types. Although apparently having a bike which you use at the weekends to go into the countryside counts.
I am a bit up myself. Especially on here.

LittleMissHissyFit · 08/02/2011 20:59

Blackbushe trumps everything...

Though isn't it technically Surrey?
