Hampshire sorts

Please tell me there are some normal, non social climbing Hampshire sorts out there, that are not psuedo (how do you spell that?) country folk, up their own arses tossers with massive 4wd cars that run you off the road and have never heard of state education? GRRRRR moved from the North and finding Hampshire tricky!

OP posts:

I live in Hampshire, but where I am is rough as fuck. The 4x4s are probably owned by the drug dealers. Grin

I quite like it though - beach on one side, Meon valley on the other, New Forest an hour away (I lived there for about 5 years) and plenty to do.

and shewhoshall i bet i know you both!Grin

Shewhoshallnotbenamed · 04/02/2011 22:55

Frigg seriously, when I visit I always go down town and usually get stopped by someone who knows me, tells me that they remember me when I was a little girl and apparently we're related - never have any idea who they are! My dad had about 16 aunts/uncles, I've got extended family all over the town!

youngjoly · 04/02/2011 23:17

Is Hampshire Posh? I never knew that!

I used to live there, in a village in between Newbury (West Berks - Posh) and Basingstoke (Hampshire - Hmm, let's just say, not as posh)

I loved our village, and living there but didn't find it particularly posh....

.... But then again, I now live in the Cotswolds, so I'm probably not the best one to judge Grin

sharbie · 04/02/2011 23:48

feeeling the hampshire love here tonight Grin

reelingintheyears · 04/02/2011 23:56

Hiya...x

Groan.

Not posh enough....

Bournemouth.

Should be Hampshire.

mumof2monsters · 05/02/2011 00:04

I live in Hampshire and do not drive a 4x4, am not a social climber and up my own arse.
I like living in Hampshire but like others I do the school run with no make-up...infact when I turn up with make-up on at 3.20 some mums look at me like I am a different person!

I don't wear wellies except when it is snowing and live in a normal part of Hampshire not too post. My kids are in infant and junior school which is a good school (some snobby mums dont think so) and as long as my kids are happy and doing what they should be at school I am a happy mummy.

Back to 4x4 cars...what annoys me are the parents who own those cars and just abandon them on yellow lines right outside or opposite the school....lazy people who cannot be bothered to walk. Funny thing was last week a traffic warden stuck a ticket on one as I was really laughing and muttering "serves them right" and the driver was right behind me....in their wellies!!! Blush Grin

HelenBa · 05/02/2011 00:26

Think it might depend where in Hampshire you are - the southern end is anying but, though I know a few forces folk a bit further north and they tend to think quite highly of themselves and can be rather cliquey as a result

HelenBa · 05/02/2011 00:30

Disclaimer: I wear wellies for dog walking all through winter though cos I like paddling in the sea

Niecie · 05/02/2011 01:09

Another Hampshire one and definintely not posh. I've been here since I was 4 on and off. I'm in N Hampshire which has a lot going for it but certainly isn't posh (Basingstoke - nuff said). I can't imagine anywhere by the coast is posh either - too many docks and military.

I suppose the bit in the middle might be quite nice like Winchester but I go there quite often and I don't see posh there either.

If you want posh you need to go to N Essex, beyond the M25. Lots of 4wd around there, lots of grammar schools and private school - out poshs anything I've come across in Hampshire.

I reckon, OP, that if you live in E Hampshire, what you are actually experiencing is an overspill of Surrey poshness, not genuine Hampshire posh.

Oh and for the record, I bought my first pair of wellies just a few months ago to go on a school trip, wading in streams in the New Forest. No 4wd and Dh comes from the North and is pretty sure there are posh bits up there too!

Southsearocks · 05/02/2011 02:22

Aww.. feeling homesick! I come from Hampshire. Moved away, moved back and now live in, er, Southsea Smile My neighbour calls her boy a "muvvers minge" so I don't think you can call where I live currently 'posh'. But do you know, it's made me realise that I like a bit of poshness and I want to move to the country. You can take the girl out of Hartley Wintney....

At the moment stuck in the US (see extensive thread in Pregnanacy) but a Hampshire meet up would be great! Should be back sometime in March, possibly Hmm

Chin chin! Wine

queribus · 05/02/2011 08:36

Oooh, I'm Andover too!!!

It's nice and friendly, but everyone seems to know each other but me!

FriggFRIGG · 05/02/2011 09:12

me too queri Grin

Bicnod · 05/02/2011 09:30

Ninkynonker - nope, not Arnewood. Although I knew a lot of peeps who went to Arnewood as we all ended up at Brock College. Arnewood used to kick our butts at hockey (I was at Priestlands) Grin

cory · 05/02/2011 10:44

Southampton here. Bu'er wouldn't melt in our moufs.

harassedinherpants · 05/02/2011 11:49

Very excited at the other Andover-ians!

I know one or two people.... always someone about you know. My dh has a huge extended family though, and they're quite known.

Maybe we should have a meet up! Life anyone??? Wink

GMajor7 · 05/02/2011 11:56

Southampton. Common as fuck.

beatrixkitto · 05/02/2011 12:07

Southampton east born and bread here too. Certainly not posh, don't have a pair of wellies or a 4x4 (although do have a rather posh car anyway) just cant afford the petrol for it lol.

Would be up for a meet up x

kando · 05/02/2011 12:13

Quick question for those living in Andover: any views on the new Augusta Park estate? We are thinking of moving to Andover next year and have been eyeing a house on this estate (not built yet though!) TIA Wink I do love living in my part of Hampshire - tomhardy, you are making me laugh re your comments on Gosport - the poshest thing about it is the Waitrose, I think! How it must rankle the truly posh people to have to go there to shop!! I have ventured to the Port Solent Tesco but I didn't like it!!! I'm sticking to Asda ...

OgreTripletsAreSoCute · 05/02/2011 12:24

Another in East Hants here (northern end of), nice but not posh in my town, although lots of the surrounding villages are as described. I'd be up for an East Hants meet up.

FriggFRIGG · 05/02/2011 14:05

i want an andover meet up!!! Grin

FriggFRIGG · 05/02/2011 14:07

im not going to life though...FFS Wink

queribus · 05/02/2011 18:58

Meet up would be good, but I've a terrible feeling everyone else will be mid-20s, sniggering into their drinks at old codgers like me! Wink

Never been to life Blush but been to Propaganda - twas fine until the 'bangin' hardcore' started, then I had to go home with a headache!

Grin
