Please tell me there are some normal, non social climbing Hampshire sorts out there, that are not psuedo (how do you spell that?) country folk, up their own arses tossers with massive 4wd cars that run you off the road and have never heard of state education? GRRRRR moved from the North and finding Hampshire tricky!

I'm a northerner living in hampshire too. I think a lot of people assume I must have spent my childhood down the mines, but otherwise I am slowly learning to like them Grin.

I don't drive, my colleagues at work are horrified that I actually use public transport Shock to get about

purplepidjin · 04/02/2011 19:40

I do youth work in Christchurch Grin

Binfullofmaggotsonthe45 · 04/02/2011 19:44

I lived in Hampshire husband was in the forces and there armloads of down to earth squaddie wives there!

Tbf you must be in a posh part yourself - I thought it was a bloody shitehole in parts - Aldershot, Portsmouth, Gosport - dumps!

Mumi · 04/02/2011 19:44

I'm a real country person who walks or takes public transport without make-up to my DS's state school. It's more like this down on the coast :)

MrsMellowDrummer · 04/02/2011 20:00

I'm in quite a posh bit of Hampshire. (the north bit that borders with Berks)

Must emphasise that I am not at all posh myself, and have walking boots not wellies. But posh people can be nice too you know... Grin

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 04/02/2011 20:10

Hampshire too Grin

Posh - ha ha ha ha ah aha ha ahdhhahahaahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahhaahahahahahahahahahah errm no.

FabbyChic · 04/02/2011 20:12

I live in Hampshire and I am certainly not up my own arris. I currenlty have no vehicle either.

WinkyGirl · 04/02/2011 20:14

Another just north of Winchester type here (hello SheepLikeSleep)

Definitely not a social climber, kids at local primary, don't do anything "country" apart from country walks and own a little Citroen.

I do talk with a Winchester accent though, which probably sounds posh but I've lived here all my life so cannot really help it!

Oh and have asked for wellies for my birthday but only because I am fed up with wet feet on rainy day school runs...

mummyshreddingnora · 04/02/2011 20:17

am a hampshire normal here! No 4x4... only 1 car for the family! Shock state school and DD doesn't even go to a yellow dot fecking nursery / preschool thingamy!

sheeplikessleep · 04/02/2011 20:20
scrappydappydoo · 04/02/2011 20:21

Whats a yellow dot nursery??

Bicnod · 04/02/2011 20:21

I'm a New Forest girl who has been living in London since University and I'm desperate to get back...

...I have green wellies but they only cost a tenner and I use them for stomping through the forest when we go back to visit my folks - is that acceptable?

Oh, and I went to the local state school when I lived in the New Forest (possibly the same one as some of you lot on here if you live in Sway/New Milton...)

FabbyChic · 04/02/2011 20:21

Originally from Essex, and have to say that Portsmouth is not a shit hole compared to Essex, much cleaner here.

sheeplikessleep · 04/02/2011 20:26

i didn't realise yellow dot were posh?

stovies · 04/02/2011 20:31

Ah yes, Hampshire! Grin

I don't suppose you're near the villages of Odiham or Hartley Wintney? We though Surrey was up its own bum till we moved here!

stovies · 04/02/2011 20:31

mummyshreddingnora · 04/02/2011 21:03

sorry for spellinh mistakes - had a bit too much Wine

vj32 · 04/02/2011 21:19

I like all the people talking about 'poshness' in East Hants. HHmmm. East Hampshire - Portsmouth, Gosport, Havant, Fareham. Not what you'd really call posh. You must mean North East Hants.

Anyway - for great poshness try Romsey - specifically Waitrose in Romsey - car park is full of sports cars and 4x4s (and my car!). The store stocks less than half an aisle of magazines but seem to have more hunting/shooting/dog/country magazines than I knew existed. Plus the people trying to get hay and things for their horses in the boot of their sports cars. What are they doing?

Honestly though, if the posh people worry you, and you really need a dose of the chavtastic, spend a day in Portsmouth.
