OK AIBU but AFAIK ATM FWIW and IIRC IME and IMHO IYKWIM
I would appreciate your POV on acronyms. Personally I find them a PITA
I know I am being OTT but it really MMTI IYSWIM. IIRC before forums and txt
we all wrote the full word. I even have friends now who say LOL FFS!

And I aqree, we arent limited for text characters on here, so I dont really see the need for quite so many abbreviations. Even worse are the ones that are creeping in now like "DBD".. which frequently means someone has to ask what the fuck the poster is talking about.. only to be told it is "darling bonus daughter".. and then go ont to explain it means step-daughter...

Just write out step-daughter.. it really is not that bloody difficult.

TBH I don't see the problem with acronyms. I have lazy fingers.

I do sometimes do double takes at the specific ones (and I'd have thought DBD was Dear Biological Daughter as opposed to DSD being Dear Step-Daughter).

It's just shared language like any other.

There are very few acronyms on here really and are only there for the most commonly typed words.

Nobody's forcing you to use them.

You go into any workplace and you find a shared language and acronyms. It's part of being a community.

DH is at work atm dealing with some PWITS and TWOCs for example. Means beggar all to most people but it works for them.

I know what a TWOC is - taking without consent, usually cars

DH actually talks in TLAs (three letter acronyms) sometimes on the phone to colleagues. I understand writing them but saying them is just wrong - takes less time to say the bloody words! Although to be fair it makes sense as the TLAs are in one language and he's talking in another but referring to SOPs influenced by the first language.
