.. and close down all threads where it appears (it appears to be catching on).. bring back "hubby" pleeeeeeese

As Freudian said plus points I made before (yawn).

Ilythia - actually, were this posted on Netmums, surely I would have immediately resorted to cheapo swear words along these lines:

nosy old busybody. You don't like you piss off. And take the revolting "hubby" with you.

Thankfully, I am capable of rising above that. In the original post, I mentioned that I would merely be avoiding those threads since that is my choice, not asking for them to be removed in general. I have not been any more dramatic than usual; perhaps we have different styles of communication, that's all.

If some posters still fail to understand this (despite Dee herself having moved on) then i am afraid that it is merely serving to highlight your own ignorance.

Btw, what's with the mean girl tactics? Merely expressing opinions here; you know, calmly, non-emotionally. Calm down Wink No need to start hurling abuse out of the blue just because your opinion differs, is there?

I've met the manshape. He's a lovely shaped lovely man, and he IS fantastic and supportive and he is very good for deemented and they are adorable together. Anyone who can't read the inherent affection in the way dee writes about him has a heart of stone and needs to go and lie on a cold moor for a very long time and ponder why they are so persnickity.

I call my husband 'the husbeast'. Don't really care who hates on it, either! It's entirely descriptive.

Seriously - we are picking apart the affectionate term women use for their beloveds because...? It's our business because...? We get our knickers in a twist over words on a computer screen because...?

figcake · 22/01/2011 21:18

Fair enough - sure you are right. I have not (had time to) read all of Dee's posts, nor intend to. The only post I can actually recall (which I only established during this thread was written by Dee) is the one about when she was sixteen Grin and tbh the combination of THAT word plus the description sounded so needlessly carnal that I nearly brought my dinner up. I then saw the word in other peoples posts which prompted me to start this thread.

Maybe there will be a few more "husbeasts" on the bandwagon in a few days time? If it is a sacred term of affection then why litter it everywhere online rather than keeping it between yourselves?

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 22/01/2011 21:22

Oh for Gods sake! Its a word. This is an open forum. People can use any words they want as long as they aren't offensive. If you don't like a word, read another thread!

scottishmummy · 22/01/2011 21:22

never heard it.is it english expression?

WelshMaenad · 22/01/2011 21:22

Oh, I don't use it in the house. In the house he is "oi, you". I call him 'husbeast' online because I find 'hubby' so unbearably twee and sickening that it affects my appetite.

Difference is, I keep my nausea to myself instead of feeling the need to start threads criticising how people choose to express themselves. See how that works?

I hate "hubby" too, just not as much as that word.

"See how that works?" Not really, you can like a person without having to like every aspect of their communication, personality etc. As I said myself at the start, I will probably hide those threads - nobody is sanctioning use of the 'word'.

OP posts:
Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 22/01/2011 21:29

If a person had a an abusive ex and called him shitbag or arseface online, no one would care or question. It's been said that Dee has her reason for Manshape, so why not just accept that and dry up?

figcake · 22/01/2011 21:32

Did at 17.58 as far as I am aware. So dry up by all means it is dragging on a bit.

OP posts:
Guacamole · 22/01/2011 21:34

Well I'm a prize plum... I assumed 'Manshape' was 'Deemented's' DP's Mumsnet name. I thought he might be a frequenter of the Dadsnet bit.
I've never heard it anywhere other than Deemented's posts. I call DH knobhead sometimes, you should probably be more offended by that, no?

scottishmummy · 22/01/2011 21:35

why all the ire?plenty folk post i dislike dis and dat and dont get head jumped upon and told widdle word has significance for so and so

frankly whether or not on one loves or hates a particular word on an online forum is not a biggie

people have preferences.doesnt matter.so long as they arent enforcing a posting style or approved list of words

WelshMaenad · 22/01/2011 21:36

I didn't say it was obligatory to 'like' it. I just object to the starting of threads bitching about it, especially when suchsame is very easily construed as a personal attack on a specific poster.

ilythia · 22/01/2011 21:36

and what you are doing now is....?

I got cross as when people say that my friend can't use a term she wants o it pisses me off a bit, and knowing she wasn't here to defend herself and it has been done enough times to be a bit I wanted to make a point.

southeastastra · 22/01/2011 21:36

yes but as only one poster predominately uses it - seems a little arsey as a thread topic surely

JoBettany · 22/01/2011 21:41

And has been posted almost as frequently, many posters did not know it was associated with just one poster.

Not that it should make a difference.

scottishmummy · 22/01/2011 21:42

surely can dislike a word/phrase without beeing deemed to be attacking anyone

no one has dibs or exclusivity on a word
and is permissible to dislike phrases/words

scottishmummy · 22/01/2011 21:43

op getting unnecessarily hard time

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 22/01/2011 21:44

scottishmummy · 22/01/2011 21:49

southeastastra · 22/01/2011 21:51
