OP posts:

i think that when I first came across it ( not even on here i don't think) it just seemed to imply that this person was simply "manshape"

ie, the appearance of a man, but not much else. which isn't that nice

now clearly, there is someone on here who uses it and I have no idea of the backstory, so this isn't aimed at her at all, just my feelings on it

am curious why she has good reasons to use this very specific term though! will have to search archives for manshape lol

GreenEyesandHam · 21/01/2011 22:29

Ok I'm a nosy bugger- what is the reason for using it please?

I've not seen the term used, so I don't really have an opinion anyway lol

pagwatch · 21/01/2011 22:29

I have never seen or heard it used other than by one person on here and she has explained why.

I am nit bothered . If I was going to start objecting to terms used on here I would have retard, baby dancing and various others way ahead on my shit list

giyadas · 21/01/2011 22:29

2shoes - no need for that. I posted before I saw your second post.

FreudianSlippers · 21/01/2011 22:29

Dee uses it, she has her reasons.

Sadly, you can't help the fact that people don't know the reasons (and others do use it too sometimes, I heard it in rl t'other day) and don't like it. This thread has been done before and it's clear that a lot of people don't like it.

But it is tolerated because of the aforementioned reasons.

2shoes, I think it's the reductive nature of it you don't like. Reducing a whole person down to a shape.

SoMuchToBits · 21/01/2011 22:30

Whenever I see "manshape" I think that it's deemented who has posted. That's fine. I don't particularly think of it as an insult or anything.

What's the problem?

ilythia · 21/01/2011 22:30

oh god pag, babydancing. It just sounds lke something from Ally McBeal!

Mumcentreplus · 21/01/2011 22:31

well how would you feel? ...womanshape?..rectangle with boobs?..objectification at it's worst imo..yes it can be fun...but still scary

GreenEyesandHam · 21/01/2011 22:32

Ok no one had asked when I started typing...

JaneS · 21/01/2011 22:32

Could someone tell me the reason, please? Confused

I've heard it more in RL than on here - it's not that unusual is it?

'hubby', OTOH, is vile. I imagine middle-aged couples who'd like to swing but don't quite dare, refer to their 'hubbies'.

JaneS · 21/01/2011 22:33

pag, what on earth is 'baby dancing'?

thisisyesterday · 21/01/2011 22:33

yeah hubby is right up there with "preggers" and "bub"

thisisyesterday · 21/01/2011 22:33

baby dancing is SEX SEX SEX SEX SEXY SEX

SoMuchToBits · 21/01/2011 22:34

Maybe I am quite naive - I just thought "manshape" was a term of endearment Blush Maybe not, but I always like to see the best in people....

oldraver · 21/01/2011 22:34

I dont like it, when I see it written down it makes me go eek. I understand the person who uses it the most has their reason for using it... I just dont get it

We don't have babydancing on here anymore. It's SWI now which is hardly better.

bub is awful, but so is 'baby' with no article ie 'How's baby?' Bleurgh.

ilythia · 21/01/2011 22:35

Grin at SEXY SEX, as opposed to UNSEXY SEXWink

DH sometimes calls me booblady. It's called a term of endearment, other people don't need to approve.

ilythia · 21/01/2011 22:36

xpost with somuch!

POAS grims me out as well, it's just so...graphic!

OracleInaCoracle · 21/01/2011 22:36

hubby makes me want to vomit, so does babydance. I dont babydance, I have sex, I am an adult and refuse to use twee phrases, like that and auntie flow. I never had an auntie that ruined my knickers and day.

and yes OP, I think you are damned unreasonable. Ive only ever seen dee use it, this looks to me like sniping.

figcake · 21/01/2011 22:36

ilythia - is your DH John Mccririck by any chance?

OP posts:
2shoes · 21/01/2011 22:37

what does babydance mean? I have never got that

figcake · 21/01/2011 22:38

Don't know about Dee so no, not sniping - I have definitely seen others using it as I said.

OP posts:
JaneS · 21/01/2011 22:38

I'm suitably revolted now.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 21/01/2011 22:38

It's a word! Get a grip!
