Yeah whatever,

Now I have your attention.

Its Billie's birthday tommorow. She would have been 19. She died aged 14 from Acute Lymphoblastic Luekemia. She was ill for two years and suffered a great deal. She bore her illness with dignity and bravery and she was the most extraordinary human being I have ever known.

PLEASE if you have ever thought about:
Giving blood
Registering as Bone Marrow Donor
Donating cord blood or
giving your time or money to charity

Would you do it now? Would a look at my DD's photo help to nudge you in the right direction?

www.blood.co.uk/
www.clicsargent.org.uk
www.teenagecancertrust.org.uk
www.anthonynolan.org/

and the www.aclt.org.uk are REALLY struggling right now.

This is my DD billie-josiah.memory-of.com/About.aspx

It is not something I share lightly. I want you all to see what is lost when cancer takes hold.

Everyone can do something, if you cant give blood please ask someone else to do it.

Thank you

Rainbowpenguin · 19/01/2011 16:46

I can't do this due to medical reasons. But I ma interested in the part where you say you can donate cord blood. I am ttcing and I would be very interested in doing that but would need to know how I could get it arranged etc xx

Bucharest · 19/01/2011 16:46

Thank you sharing your lovely daughter with us again Smile

Hope tomorrow passes peacefully for you. xx

Deciduousblonde · 19/01/2011 16:47

I so wish I could give blood.

I used to, until I had to have a transfusion..now they don't want my stuff :-(

How ironic is that?

Great way to get attention, BTW.

You heard her people..give blood if you can!!!!

BoobyMcLeaky · 19/01/2011 16:47

I'm on the anthony nolan register, I think they can do the testing from a saliva sample now. It's really easy, just go along and register. There are aren't enough donors Sad

AbiAbi · 19/01/2011 16:47

That made me cry Blush

Registering for blood and bone marrow now.

Hope tomorrow goes as well as it can, your family will be in my thoughts all day.

bronze · 19/01/2011 16:48

Sorry just realised my post was a bit crass. It was a response to the title drawing people in.

Hope tomorrow goes as well as it can for you

curlymama · 19/01/2011 16:48

Am already a donor, but thankyou for sharing something so personal to you.

I hope tomorrow isn't too hard for you and that you are able to take come comfort from this and from your memories.

kenobi · 19/01/2011 16:48

Thank you for reminding me too. x

tholeon · 19/01/2011 16:49

what a beautiful girl, you must be so proud of her. Consider me nudged.

Deciduousblonde · 19/01/2011 16:49

I am also interested in the cord blood issue. And yes, I always pass on the valuable advice about giving blood. Thanks again for sharing.

TeethandVelvet · 19/01/2011 16:49

Just marking my place to remind me. I'm currently breastfeeding a 12 week old (baby not dog Wink) but will make a donation on friday when I get paid. I'm so sorry for the loss of your daughter.

Rainbowpenguin · 19/01/2011 16:50

Thats why I can't give blood Deciduous, it does seem pretty ironic tho....

Ttried to give blood last week but they managed to bruise me badly instead.

Still booked for my next appointment in 4 months though.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 19/01/2011 16:53

Bronze dont feel crass! I knew what I was doing Smile

The cord blood issue is important because the collection services are few and far between. Ask your midwife or if you are ttc you can look on the blood service website for details.

Thank you everyone.

I had better go and make the dinner but I will be back often. I know I do this at least twice a year but there isnt much else I can do. I just want it not to be a total waste.

You should see the card her little brother made for her at school Sad

Will be thinking of you and your lovely DD tomorrow x

babycuckoo · 19/01/2011 17:03

Have been meaning to give blood again, your post has made me sit up and remind me why I was doing it.

claig · 19/01/2011 17:08

That made me cry. Beautiful words for your beautiful daughter. Best wishes for tomorrow.

StormInaCCup · 19/01/2011 17:16

I hope you get plenty of donors signed up. Billie was a beautiful girl, and I had tears in my eyes looking at your site for her.

I was down as a blood and bone marrow registers when I was diagnosed with cancer myself (now in remission) but have had to withdraw as I can no longer donate due to the illness I had. It is a very worthy thing to do, and I try and promote it wherever possible.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow x

backwardpossom · 19/01/2011 17:18

I can't do this for medical reasons either, but I bullied my husband (who gives blood whenever he can) into joining the Anthony Nolan register a couple of months ago - it was very easy to do, he signed up online and they sent a saliva kit in the post.

I urge everyone who can to do it. I wouldn't be alive without blood donations. x

emmanana · 19/01/2011 17:21

Lets's give Billie the 'bumps' for her birthday, and keep this thread right at the top.

What a beautiful girl. Hope your heart is warmed with memories tomorrow on her birthday, Mrs DV. (As I'm sure it is every single day) x

Can't give blood because of meds, so will have to be cash to Anthony Nolan site.
