Yeah whatever,

Now I have your attention.

Its Billie's birthday tommorow. She would have been 19. She died aged 14 from Acute Lymphoblastic Luekemia. She was ill for two years and suffered a great deal. She bore her illness with dignity and bravery and she was the most extraordinary human being I have ever known.

PLEASE if you have ever thought about:
Giving blood
Registering as Bone Marrow Donor
Donating cord blood or
giving your time or money to charity

Would you do it now? Would a look at my DD's photo help to nudge you in the right direction?

www.blood.co.uk/
www.clicsargent.org.uk
www.teenagecancertrust.org.uk
www.anthonynolan.org/

and the www.aclt.org.uk are REALLY struggling right now.

This is my DD billie-josiah.memory-of.com/About.aspx

It is not something I share lightly. I want you all to see what is lost when cancer takes hold.

Everyone can do something, if you cant give blood please ask someone else to do it.

Thank you

I wish I could dontate blood / marrow but I take medication that prevents me from giving.

However, I lost a friend to leukaemia so a few weeks ago I signed up to do the three peaks challenge later this year to raise money for a leaukaemia charity.

I'm already doing my bit Smile

I loved the joke thread title by the way Grin

Happy Birthday beautiful Billie

loadofnonsense · 19/01/2011 23:17

I've been on the blood website recently with a view to making an appointment but I can't find out how much time you need to spare.

Does anyone know what time you need to allow yourself from your appointment time, an hour/two hours? Last time I went was before having DC and it was queue and wait.

I'm really determined to give blood again and this has made me even more so.

Secretwishescometrue · 19/01/2011 23:20

I have cried for your Billie before (iv been around awhile but used to be "someone else") and have sobbed reading her memorial sight tonight. Thank you for sharing your angel with us and reminding us we could help. I'm ill so I ant any good atm but I want to donate all they will take off me when or if they make me better. But I'm off now to Google where Dh can go give blood, he will be more then happy to, but too much of a wuss for bone marrow donation sadly but if mine is ever wanted I will, I promise it to Billie...

I`d happily give my cord blood, but im so far North I dont think I can, I havent looked extensively into it, but from what I have read online, I would need to be in North London, is this correct MrsD?

Also, my Dad died of cancer, six weeks after diagnosis, I know what this fucking awful disease does, it literally ate my Dad in front of out eyes

Mssoul · 19/01/2011 23:33

Thank you for this post. Your daughter sounds marvellous and so do you. I will be giving blood this Fri as a direct result of your post as I haven't since before I had DD (now 2) and keep meaning toSmile

Mssoul · 19/01/2011 23:35

pulapula · 19/01/2011 23:37

I have been thinking of registering with the anthony nolan trust for a while, and your post has encouraged me to get on and do it - I have just registered and hope I will be able to help someone in the future.

Your website and photos of your beautiful daughter really moved me.

emmanana · 20/01/2011 00:02

Bump for Billie...

hester · 20/01/2011 00:09

Billie is such a beautiful girl, and I can only guess at how terribly you must miss her. I will be thinking of you and your family tomorrow, MrsDV.

And thank you for the reminder of what we can do to help.

All best to you, love hester xx

rodformyownback · 20/01/2011 00:22

Thinking of you tomorrow (today) Mrs DV. My DH is on the bone marrow list and I will join too, next time I give blood.

differentnameforthis · 20/01/2011 00:25

Australia don't want my blood, because I lived in the UK at the height of the mad cow disease scare.

But yeah, I would otherwise.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 20/01/2011 00:27

Happy birthday Billie, you beautiful, bright star :)

onmyfeet · 20/01/2011 00:38

RedHeels · 20/01/2011 00:45

I'm already a donor but have to wait 9 months after giving the birth to start doing it again.

Happy birthday to your beautiful Billie. Sad

Happy Birthday again Billie! You beautiful girl :)

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/01/2011 10:13

I am making the mistake of reading the thread at work and am sat here brimming.

Happy birthday Billie.

I think it is lovely and something positive from such a tragic loss that loads of people on MN who have never met MrsD or Billie, are inspired by her, are thinking of her today, and are pledging to donate blood etc.

MrsD will be thinking of you and Billie today.

coatgate · 20/01/2011 10:20

Happy Birthday to Billie and thinking of you MrsD. Sad Sad Sad

Used to give blood, will sign up again.

Kayzr · 20/01/2011 10:25

Happy Birthday Billie. Thinking of you and your family MrsD.
