I don't mean the people who pop in once in a while for a coffee.

I am talking about the same mums i see EVERY day after ive taken dd to school on my way to ds nursery, they are there first thing, i drop him off walk back past to go to the shops and they are still there. Then when i walk past again to go home-STILL THERE! every weekday, they sit in the window seats, their toddlers run about whilst people dodge them with hot drinks and once one of them even changed her baby's nappy on the chair.

Maybe this is just jealousy as iam quite partial to a coffee and muffin!I couldnt afford it once a month let alone every day, but really they must spend a fortune and they seem to have completely taken over in there every day.Still, it really annoys me do they really have nothing better to do every single day???

YANBU.

I live in a small town - we don't have a Starbucks but we do have a cafe. At about 8.55am the same group of mothers congregate outside, and sit there all smoking fags and drinking coffee until the cafe closes after lunch. EVERY DAY. Even weekends. What a life. I am not at all jealous, I can't think of anything worse than wasting my life sitting in the rain outside a cafe.

MsKLo · 18/01/2011 23:10

Every day?

Yanbu
Starbucks do shit coffee!

But would you really want to me them? And their poor kids! What a boring place for them to be! I cam just imagine what they look like Sitting there...

MsKLo · 18/01/2011 23:11

Be them
Not me them!

Bloody iPhone!

usualsuspect · 18/01/2011 23:11

So?

MsKLo · 18/01/2011 23:12

Are their kids with them whilst they smoke cat?

ariane5 · 18/01/2011 23:12

I get a pang of jealousy especially when i have been soaked the past 3 days and freezing pushing the double buggy and on my way home to do the housework! when i see all the mugs of coffee and cakes i just think how unfair it is, although saying that if i did have the money i still wouldnt be in there every morning!

Are the kids smoking?

usualsuspect · 18/01/2011 23:13

You are a better housewife than them thats for sure

MintAeroBar · 18/01/2011 23:13

meh. Each to their own.

But I would be bored stiff!!

ariane5 · 18/01/2011 23:14

some of the kids are just little babies in their prams but the toddlers seem to just run riot climb on the chairs and run about id be worried with all the hot drinks but they dont seem bothered, a bit too busy eating , drinking and chatting.

anythingwithagiraffeonit · 18/01/2011 23:15

YANBU to comment on the ones who sit in there all day, but I often go in there (maybe twice a week) with DD in her pram just so I can get out of the house and walk somewhere with a purpose...

Now that she's three months I'm going to start taking her to mother and baby groups / aqua tots etc, but earlier than that and especially in the winter it's really nice to have Starbucks around the corner...

usualsuspect · 18/01/2011 23:15

oh my god ...they are eating ,drinking and chatting ....KILL THEM

StopTalkingAndEatYourDinner · 18/01/2011 23:15

why waste even a minute of your life worrying about how people you have never met choose to spend their days?

Whether they want to sit in a cafe or paint themselves blue and run round the park, it's entirely their decision and none of your business. It's not like they are abusing their children with their raging latte habit!

once one of them even changed her baby's nappy on the chair

I saw this in a cafe a couple of years ago, I was so Shock at the cheek of it, where people were drinking and eating, right on the table, that it's one of the few times in my life i was totally speachless. i didn't say anything in case it came out as "just what on earth makes you think that's acceptable in here?" - absolutely disgusting. esp in a place which provides ok facilities for that sort of thing, more to the point. i still go to the same cafe (it's very family friendly and decent coffee) but i've never seen the same women in there since, thank god.

ariane5 · 18/01/2011 23:18

oh no i didnt mean going in once or twice a week i mean a specific group who are there EVERY morning, pretty much all morning- dont get me wrong very occasionally i go in for a coffee but they are there too much.

I am sure the last few days of nasty cold rain has gone to my head, walking past and seeing them all warm and dry!!

MsKlo - only on the weekends as DC are in school during the week. Obviously they are smoking outside though.

LDNmummy · 18/01/2011 23:20

I'm looking forward to being a Starbucks mummy when my little one comes along. One of my best friends already has a one year old and I can't wait till we can meet for lunch with both baby's in tow! But I think thats just cos I can't wait for my little one to get here. I wouldn't do it everyday though, once a month or something, but everyday, poor kiddies having to watch the mothers talk away with nothing to occupy them.

igetmorelovefromthecat · 18/01/2011 23:20

frgr - I agree it's a bit ming, but I had no choice but to change my dd's nappy on a chair in a cafe recently as they had no baby changing facilities. Did it as discreetly as poss but if they don't have changing facilities what else could I do?

Punkatheart · 18/01/2011 23:20

Are their kids with them whilst they smoke cat?

Smoking cat? Is this new street slang for something? Well that is disgusting.....much worse than the drinking of coffee. ;)

MsKLo · 18/01/2011 23:20

I think if it is toddlers they have with them it is a shame for them to be stuck in a boring coffee shop but when they are babies it is great!

usualsuspect · 18/01/2011 23:21

Smoking cats is bad though Sad

magicmummy1 · 18/01/2011 23:22

YABU - it's none of your business how they spend their days.

igetmorelovefromthecat · 18/01/2011 23:23

Yeah that's what soft play is for. Drink coffee and kids are happy. OK it's not Starbucks but compromises have to be made!

At least the faggers outside the cafe in my town don't have small dc with them.

StopTalkingAndEatYourDinner · 18/01/2011 23:23

what do you mean by 'they are there too much' ariane5? Too much for who? Is there some sort of coffee drinking time restriction I am unaware of?

igetmorelovefromthecat · 18/01/2011 23:24

If people are smoking cats I think that deserves a thread in itself.
