I don't mean the people who pop in once in a while for a coffee.

I am talking about the same mums i see EVERY day after ive taken dd to school on my way to ds nursery, they are there first thing, i drop him off walk back past to go to the shops and they are still there. Then when i walk past again to go home-STILL THERE! every weekday, they sit in the window seats, their toddlers run about whilst people dodge them with hot drinks and once one of them even changed her baby's nappy on the chair.

Maybe this is just jealousy as iam quite partial to a coffee and muffin!I couldnt afford it once a month let alone every day, but really they must spend a fortune and they seem to have completely taken over in there every day.Still, it really annoys me do they really have nothing better to do every single day???

I couldnt do it every day but once in a blue moon would be nice !

I dont mean to criticise them obviously its their choice i just get annoyed, i have to walk past there each day as there isnt another quick route to where i need to go so its sort of right there every day staring me in the face. Makes me think why do some peoples lives seem so easy, carefree and relaxing!

Oh how i wish mine was!

I love Jeremy Kyle, it was my filthy little secret to get me through my cardio on the bike/treadmill. Quality viewing.

MsKLo · 18/01/2011 23:45

That's funny
Filthy little secret! Lol

manicbmc · 18/01/2011 23:46

I used to want to be in with the group that sat in the parents' room at school, drinking coffee and eating kitkats.

Then I realised that I didn't have a damn thing in common with them and there were so many other things I'd rather be doing.

My jealousy lasted about a week. Grin

I often think that when I talk to the SAHMs at dd's school. I'm sure they'd be quick to disagree! Wink

Sometimes things look better on the outside than they actually are.

StopTalkingAndEatYourDinner · 18/01/2011 23:52

Ariane5 - what is it about your life that is making you fed up? I'm pretty sure coffee isn't the solution. Do you have some mum friends you could meet up with/pop round to see.

ariane5 · 18/01/2011 23:54

I dont know, i think its just the final straw, made me realise how lucky and carefree some people are and whilst i dont want to spend every morning in a cafe i wish i had the choice to do it.

Scratch the surface of the coffee and cakes issue and its not looking so good maybe i shouldnt have posted!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Nowt wrong with a little bit of envy now and again, it helps us to find out what it is we really want.

It's true though, you don't know jack shit about their actual lives- they may look 'carefree', but really you can never tell

MissQue · 18/01/2011 23:56

I preferred the parent's groups where we had a creche while we had a cuppa and a good old natter myself Grin

StopTalkingAndEatYourDinner · 19/01/2011 00:17

I agree with greeneyes - you never know what is going on in other people lives.

Don't let it get you down - if you lived near me I'd take you on a starbucks latte and muffin binge to cheer you up! Grin

PlanetLizard · 19/01/2011 00:19

YABU. It's not how I would choose to spend a lot of time either, but it's up to them and not your business. Don't waste your time thinking about it.

ItalianDiva · 19/01/2011 00:31

I have a confession to make. I once changed my daughter's nappy on a table just as I was about to board a plane.

We were late for the flight and DD did a massive number 2 just as we got to the gate. The nearest loos were a good 10 minute walk away and so I just plonked her on this table near the gate and changed her nappy.

The BA staff at the gate were very unimpressed and I was incredibly embarrassed. Never again!

LDNmummy · 19/01/2011 00:35

I thought coffee was bad when breastfeeding??

Can someone enlighten me... On the other hand they may have decaf or smoothies Grin

If its any comfort OP, I spend a lot of time in Starbucks, (on mat leave, but even when Im not, I still go every week, love a moccha and a hot apple doughnut) but my life isnt perfect and easy, far from it, and being able to afford Starbucks several times a week doesnt make it better.

Funny though, I was in there yesterday afternoon and thought something similar, not, "why do they seem to have such easy lives", but, "why do some of these bloody gorgeous young girls look so bloody effortless", you know the type I mean, threw on a pair of leggings, a cardi, some boots and a scarf and look like they belong on a catwalk.

Where as I put a fecking huge effort into dressing my big fat pregnant self, plus hair and a bit of make up, but I still look like cack.

You all must know what I mean, effortless women, dont ya just hate them Grin

StopTalkingAndEatYourDinner · 19/01/2011 00:43

LDNmummy - perhaps they.... bottle feed!!!! Shock Grin

manicbmc · 19/01/2011 00:45

I wouldn't recommend smoking cat. They scratch like mad and don't seem to enjoy being ignited. Grin

This is a wierdly calm AIBU thread...I thought the full moon was supposed to send us wild? Confused

liquiditytrap · 19/01/2011 01:34

YANBU Starbucks is so crappy...

tryingtoleave · 19/01/2011 02:27

Sounds lovely to me. I spent most mornings of the two years of my phd before I had ds sitting in the tea room drinking coffee and chatting (which is why I'm still struggling to finish 4 years and two children later in much less fun surroundings...). Meanwhile, I've had to lug my two to a cafe almost every morning these last two weeks as my coffee machine has broken and I'm a coffee addict. The dcs are babycino addicts too, so we all sit down and have something quickly and then we head off to a nice dc friendly activity.

I think the op needs to find something more fun to do than the shopping every morning.

animula · 19/01/2011 02:31

Oh. That used to be me. Independent coffee shop, though. We'd go after school drop-off and while away the hours. Agree with Morloth - what could be better than sitting somewhere you're not responsible for cleaning, and having people bring you coffee and cake, while you chat to people you like?

Smoking cats, however, is just plain wrong. I can't imagine how big your pipe/Rizzlas would have to be. And it's just not a nice thing to be doing to a domestic animal.

animula · 19/01/2011 02:32

Hello! - are you sitting here, at this late hour, writing your PhD, too?

TheSkiingGardener · 19/01/2011 04:38

Where are you ariane5? I think we need an MN coffee and muffin support group. Whenever someone feels like this a kind MNer will proffer coffee and muffins at a coffee shop of their choice. Bit like the Christmas stuff but year round.

Remember, a hazelnut skinny latte and blueberry muffin aren't just for Christmas.

PracticallyImperfectInEveryWay · 19/01/2011 04:43

I have changed DD on a chair in a starbucks once - they have no nappy changing facilities, and I put down her portable changemat first (it was also only wee). I refuse to change her on the floor of the bathrooms. It was all done in under 60 seconds and I couldn't have cared less what anyone passing by may have thought.

TanteRose · 19/01/2011 05:04

I think the OP needs to either alter her route home, so she doesn't have to walk past the offending establishment, or just adopt an "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude and go in and say to them all "I often pass by and see you having so much fun, thought I would come in and introduce myself and have a coffee with you". Why not? you never know, they might be a really nice bunch! SHock! Grin
