Women who smoke when pregnant are selfish, irresponsible fuckwits

MsKLo · 08/01/2011 00:13

...and so are parents who smoke around their babies/children. I see soooooo many parents pushing prams and smoking or driving and smoking with babies in their car seats etc.

And the number of times I have seen pregnant women having a fag...

Selfish, irresponsible fuckwits

And for the record, I am an ex smoker. I LOVED smoking but stopped before I starte trying for a baby as it was, and is not, fair to inflict my selfish habit on my babies.

Everyone in this country knows smoking in pregnancy is wrong. YABU and I think it just sounds a bit hormonally fuelled. I'm sorry you are having a bad day.

Where do you live that all these women are smoking whilst pregnant? Perhaps you should calm down, rephrase your point and talk to your local health authority about educating the local women in your area? I live in london and pregnant smokers are a rare sight indeed. I agree some people are probably being selfish but there are a few who find that the pros outweigh the cons for their pregnancy. It is ultimately their choice no matter how sad that is. It is strongly advised against but it is not illegal.

ShowOfHands · 08/01/2011 00:49

OP are you asking a question? I couldn't see it.

You can think what you like tbh. Nobody can stop you thinking things. Shame but them's the facts.

StuffingGoldBrass · 08/01/2011 00:51

Thing is, women who smoke and drink during pregnancy quite often have healthy babies.
Women who obey every little government-backed order about health sometimes have stillborn babies, or babies with serious and lasting physical or developmental problems.

There are no guarantees, and fuckwitted superstitous thinking as demonstrated by this OP ('Waaah, the more awful things I say about other women's behaviour, the more likely it is that I, the Good Person, won't have anything bad happen to me) is unproductive.
And irritating, though she does provide a handy target for those of us inclined to a little stress-relief.

julybutterfly · 08/01/2011 00:55

I actually drank (not a lot but still drank) during my first 2 healthy pregnancies. My 3rd pregnancy, I gave up drinking completely because I felt like we were pushing our luck having a 3rd after having 2 healthy children. Our 3rd baby ended up being aborted after 22 weeks due to abnormalities 'incompatible with life'. Our 4th pregnancy (again no alcohol) ended last week in miscarriage at 10 weeks.

Like SGB said there are no guarantees

ok my sister before pregnant was on herion and was an alcholic, since being on pregnant does not drink and on methadone to control her habit.

the smokes, but cut down alot.

she was on herion as her ex got her hooked by forcing her to do it, as well as beating and raping her daily.

her current partner (father of the baby) is supported her so well.

fuck the smoking, she has done very well imo

AlpinePony · 08/01/2011 06:06

Get over yourself - I'd put money on you doing something which would make me roll my eyes right out of my head, across the floor and out the door!

SilverSky · 08/01/2011 06:57

Alps fancy seeing you here!

pippitysqueakity · 08/01/2011 07:12

julybutterfly, so sorry for your losses.

MsKLo · 08/01/2011 07:14

Quite amazing that people would rather cOmment on my judgey tone and be outraged at that rather than the fact that women inflict their smoking habit on unborn babies. HOw very PC.

The fact that I am an ex-smoker is why I get so mad about it, it was so hard for me to quit and I miss smoking a lot but to smoke when preg or to smoke around children is wrong and selfish.

I never said anywhere I am perfect, far far from it, but some things are just not right and this is one of them. Again, that people are more outraged at my tone than the fact that people smoke is amazing.

And for the people who said stuff about drinking - I did not drink when preg out of personal choice but I don't think a bit of drink is bad and it is not like smoking at all (unless you binge drink).

I saw a couple with a little baby the other day and they put the baby in the car in the car seat, got in, and both lit fags. How horrible for that baby and how fucking awful of the parents

I completely and utterly agree with you. I have no idea why people are being so ridiculous and defending the indefensible...but then this is mumsnet.

Smoking is utterly minging especially other peoples unwanted smoke, it seems criminal to inflict it on a teeny baby who hasn't got the ability to remove themselves from a smoky environment.

There is a school of thought that parental smoking "switches on" the addictive trait in a child so that not only is the child more likely to smoke themselves they are more likely to become addicted to other nasties.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/01/2011 07:23

Oh dear oh dear. MsKlo you are a silly woman who is stirring.
Off to have one of my 30 a day while DD makes me some coffee.

Coffeebeans · 08/01/2011 07:23

ok, can someone tell me the harm to a baby when i'm smoking OUTSIDE with my ds in his pushchair, with or without rain cover?

MsKLo · 08/01/2011 07:27

At last, at sane voice!

Thank you

What has happened to people that they would rather be outraged at my tone than people who smoke when preg?!
This is a very serious problem and it is outrageous that people still think it is ok because they are 'addicted' to smoking. I was addicted but when I CHOSE to have a baby it was nOt fair to inflict my smoking on my baby just because I loved it so much.

All the women on here who take exception to my tone rather than women who inflict their selfish habit on innocent babies should be bloody ashamed of themselves and thank fuck I do not think like that

MsKLo · 08/01/2011 07:30

Coffebeans

Does your smoke ever get near your little one in the pushchair? Isn't it better not to smoke when your little one is around?

OP posts:
MsKLo · 08/01/2011 07:39

Kreecher

The fact that you think it is more acceptable to joke about your DD being around smoke and beig more outraged at my outrage at smoking when preg etc is what is silly

I despair when I see silly women like you get more bothered at my opinion on this than the real problem this is

Smoking when preg or around children means smokers put their habit before their kids and that, it awful
