...and so are parents who smoke around their babies/children. I see soooooo many parents pushing prams and smoking or driving and smoking with babies in their car seats etc.

And the number of times I have seen pregnant women having a fag...

And for the record, I am an ex smoker. I LOVED smoking but stopped before I starte trying for a baby as it was, and is not, fair to inflict my selfish habit on my babies.

When you decide to have a baby and still smoke is not just your decision and about you anymore, it is about doing the bes for baby and not inflicting smoke on them

There are smokers who try to give up during pregnancy but succoumb to the odd secretive fag now and then out of sheer desperation. Or a smoker who nips out into her back garden in her dressing gown when it's minus 2 to have a fag so she doesn't smoke in the house over her children...

And someone who doesn't give a fuck, doesn't even try to give up and continues to smoke throughout pregnancy and over the baby once born in complete disregard of any advice otherwise.

The thing is that most women who smoke on mn are probably in the former category and take the OP personally when in fact, it wasn't really aimed at them, I would guess.

Duh ilythia yes I do think having a go at women who smoke is a good thing. Why not? Should i pat them on the back and go there there?

And FWIW, I really don't like to see pregnant women smoking in public although smoking doesn't bother me either way otherwise. But the OP has received a lot of vitriol for talking sense (albeit in a confrontational way) and yet I have seen threads where the general consensus has been to report a mother to SS because her kids weren't in the correct childseats in the car....

I do see it from time to time and I see plenty of mums smoking with buggies and prams.

I can't imagine a time when I will ever see that and think it looks like a healthy choice for either mum or baby.

KLo, I agree it's obviously harmful to the baby. I wouldn't do it myself. But I'd never judge another woman without knowing her circumstances. I certainly would post a snotty, self-affirming statement on here, which seems to have been written to either upset people, or ensure you have the rest of the snotty-judgey brigade fawning over you and how wonderful you are.

I smoked whilst pregnant with DS
I just couldn't give up. I was very lucky and had a healthy baby.
When I got pregnant with DD1 I gave up. How I did it I don't know. Something just clicked and I haven't had a fag since. That will be 4 years ago this summer.
I don't know why I couldn't give up before that, I was a smoker for 15 years and well and truely hooked.
It isn't all black and white OP. Yes I hate seeing people smoke around their children, it's unnecessary and irresponsible. But I try not to judge pregnant women as I was there once and I know how hard it is.

Personally, I think that anyone who smokes is a selfish irresponsible fuckwit, but I wouldn't tell them that. People are free to make their own choices.

I think that the OP showed her true colours right back on page one, when she laid into a lady (albeit in response to her SIL) who returned to smoking after having a stillborn. Bloody hell, I've never smoked but my vices (booze and food) came out in force after I lost an early pregnancy so I can't imagine what I'd have turned to in that situation.

One thing is for sure we all acknowledge that smoking when pg is great but the sentiment of the OP seems to be;

'You smoke in pregnancy regardless of your situation ergo you are a fuckwit.'

'You disagree with me ergo you are a fuckwit.'

This thread is ridiculous. Of course it's not a great idea to smoke but OP really is just up for a fight for the sake of it. Best ignored I think.

My mother smoked when pregnant with me (stress, her mother was dying of cancer). There's feck-all wrong with me. Many women smoked while pregnant two or three generations ago. It's not the ideal but it's not exactly on a par with sticking a rusty coathanger up your vag.
OP you sound like a total horror. Maybe you should get back on the fags, you might be nicer.
