to wonder if all mothers/parents REALLY think that their child/ren are beautiful?

This is a follow-on thread from the 'parents boasting' thread I started earlier tonight...

I was wondering if parents (especially mothers) really do think their babies are the most beautiful? I don't mean loving them and accepting them for who they are but that all out 'my incredible child could win beauty competitions' type of adoration.

Or does any parent look at their child and think 'good job s/he has a great personality'

Just wondering....

When my son was born he looked like a gremlin. 4lb 5oz of skin, he had stopped growing and lost weight, my god he was ugly. Took months for him to be gorgeous.

Dd2 was not a beautifull baby, she looked all squashed and wrong.

She is one of the most beautiful toddlers on earth though

My middle son was born looking like Rod Stewart on a bad hair day...even the midwife said it Lol.

I look back at photos of dd when she was a few months and think 'well not bad but kind of bald and Churchill like' but at the time I thought she was the most beautiful thing ever. Of course now (18 months) she actually is.
in six months though what will I think?
Nature is a tricksy beast me thinks!

no, i certainly did not think my babies or children wer aesthetically teh most beautiful babies or children, i have eyes, i have seen the world and know tehre are some physically very beautiful children. but i did and do think my children are a thing of beauty if that makes sense. tehy are beautiful to me for who they are what they do and say and the love they invoke in me.

DD1 was 6 weeks early and weighed just over 3lbs when born. She looked like a bright red plucked chicken for months! I do think all 3 DDs r beautiful now and get told that quite a lot by people but not sure if they would win a competition as I have never entered them and never will as they are awful!

I have to say my eldest (19yrs) is very handsome and always has been...loads of people have said it and he's fighting the girls off with a stick lol.

Middle son (Rod Stewart) wouldn't win a beauty competition bless him.

Youngest son looks a hell of a lot like eldest.

But I have to say...looks aside, all 3 of thtem have a brilliantly funny sense of humour and I think that more than anything is what keeps people flocking round them.

I cannot look at my children objectively so I don't even try.

My children are the most beautiful creatures in the world! I have no idea as to whether they're actually beautiful or just beautiful to me ...and I think people are unlikely to tell me

I have seen fairly unfortunate-looking children described as beautiful by their parents though - love is blind as they say

What actually makes me have a silent chuckle is when some parents bang on about their children being accepted into modelling agencies...like it makes them good looking.

Have they not seen the amount of 'unfortunate' looking children on TV and in magazines? It's definitely not all about 'handsome' or 'pretty' looks.

Ds is a very good looking boy, always has been. Bit of a pretty boy tbh, has gorgeous eyelashes, dark hair and eyes.

DD was very good looking, started going through 'awkward' stages when she was about 7 and now at 12 is going through a features too big for face look, but I can see she's going to be a very good looking young lady, I would bloody kill for lips like hers, not to mention cheekbones you could sharpen knives on !

Havin said that I do still get relative strangers commenting on what a pretty thing she is, think it's because she's quite small and has curls, which of course must be grabbed hold of by old dears

Don't think it matters tbh, all I want is for them to be happy, kind and think of others.

apocalypse, i find it interesting taht you can describe what your DD looks like. i can't do that with my dcs. i know tehy have blond hair and blue eyes but i can't tell you if tehy have round faces or big eyes or narrow lips. i can't do it. to me they are 'them' but i really can't describe when they look like. can't describe me either.

My twins were very odd....I described t2 as E.T. and t1 as a china doll with no colour and a orange shock of hair! Even the pictures show how very odd they looked! They are now, I may be biased, not so odd! Just...how do I say it?....Origional???

To me they are just them, they are unique. their faces are full of character and that's all that matters to me

My boys, like their father before them, looked like churchill when they were born, and to me they are the most gorgeous boys that ever walked the earth, but I dont go on about it to everyone else.

I have a 'friend' I say 'friend' because shes my mums friend really and she has a grandson about my DS2's age and EVERYTHING I say that mine has done, her grandson has done with bells on!! its very annoying as I often see her and my mum at the same time, and I cant tell my mother anything about DS2's accomplishments without her singing on about her wonderful grandson...yes he is cute and very lovely and quite bright, but also very average, as I would my son is too!! She is like it about everything though, not just her grandson, if you say your head fell off she'd probably tell you that hers did that a couple of years back!

Millionaire - you have my mother!! the leg falling off thing is EXACTLY what my mother does, endearing sometimes, but really embarrassing and annoying at others!!!

I don't think mine are the most beautiful. I think they are beautiful but I have enough objectivity to know that there are more beautiful children than my two.

I do know that DS1 is probably better looking than DS2. DS2 however, has a great personality and is extremely appealing and very popular as a result. DS2 also photographs better than DS1 - his looks can be enhanced by a photo whereas DS1's are reduced. Somebody did once say that DS1 should be a model (her DD was a child model and very attractive) but I never took her seriously because he doesn't have the temperament and nor do I to deal with all that!!

I used to get approached in the street by people telling me what beautiful eyes DS1 had. He is 10 now and no longer the cute young child. It will be interesting to see how gorgeous he ends up. He still has the eyes and a lovely mouth so I hope he clings on to something. He has AS so anything that helps him become more accepted a benefit. Being unattractive and having poor social skills would be a double whammy in a world where first impressions count for so much.

Doesn't really matter to me though - I could look at both of them for hours.

My two both have asd too niecie it seems to be a common feature in children/adults with autism, they have a certain 'angelic' look, I see it in a lot of the children I know

does anyone else hate the fact that their boy's eyelashes are longer and prettier than theirs??? My boys both have beautiful eyelashes! very irritating!!

I have to say its rare I see a child that I dont think is absolutely gorgeous, especially babies when they get to 3 months +

when dd was 2, someone told me she was like claudia schiffer - totally beautiful!!

she does have big blue eyes, long lashes, blonde hair & a really athletic build (skinny, long legs, tall) now she's 7, so quite often DOES look good - but when grumpy when being got up for school, she could give a gremlin a good run for their money. she's also quite a tom boy, so looks good as she leaves the house, but comes home looking like a charity case - torn trousers, covered in dirt etc. this ability of hers to look a mess has been commented on by many.

dd1 looked like grant mitchell.
ds1 had rolls and rolls of fat that obscured his knees, and facial eczema.
dd2 had a massive squint.

i got told off by the vicar for hoping she would sleep through the christening so her eyes would be closed.

dd1 ten years later is ordinary pretty in the way of bouncy hair and clear skin. ds1 is short and scrawny, and although dd2 has had her squint mostly fixed, she's currently sporting some extremely odd teeth.

although, despite all their individualities, they are all way more photogenic than their mother. even dh is grateful for the advent of digital photography as he can wince and quietly delete photos of me before we pay for printing.
