I'm not being unreasonable in any way, I'm just getting sick of new posters who aren't sure of the way the land lies getting ripped into by threads full of frothing "I'm better than you because I can spell" up their arse Mumsnetters. Being able to spell or not means nothing. Do people really think they are superior over someone just because they can spell better? Newsflash: you aint.
Now froth away, I'm not wrong so don't give a shit

YANBU

Wow, it's a unanimous AIBU!!

SMP "I really, really don't like it when someone gets dismissed and told to search the archives because it's been done already."

It's stupid isn't it, especially when reviving old threads get's people into trouble too. Hmm Seems you can't win.

KindleTheSky · 02/01/2011 15:35

YANBU. It just makes the person who did it look like a sad old git anyway so it all evens out I suppose.

classydiva · 02/01/2011 15:37

I hate to see posts whereby someone is being slagged off for their spelling and grammar, to be it shows a lack of ability in being able to comprehend and understand the post.

Shows the responder is lacking as opposed to the OP.

I've made a few gaffs here, but it is afterall only an internet message board, and no comments are personal, how can they be? we are only posting ID's.

OnthefirsdayofMrsDeVere · 02/01/2011 15:37

Spikey wasnt that a thread about not wanting children to go to a local school because it was full of, well... locals chavs?

I hate the sneering Oh God here we go a again if some poor cow starts a P&C parking space thread. Anyway we LOVE those threads because we can have a good old ruck.

Its ok if someone makes a joking reference but really , do we need to tell someone off for doing something she had no way of knowing had been done before?

And the cite your sources (yawn) ones. Fair enough if someone makes a 'black people dont like dogs' or 'everyone on benefits gets a free flat screen tv'

But doing it to someone who is commiting the cardinal sin of using anecdotal evidence AND pasting you in a debat argument , well thats just being a snotty bad loser Grin

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2011 15:39

who has the energy to go looking up sources?

spikeycow · 02/01/2011 15:43

Aah, statistics. They can be very misleading. "99% of Muslims want Sharia law in Britain". Yep, 99% of 10 people, big whoop.

Yabu.

(but only because I feel awfully uncomfortable reading an AIBU thread where everyone agrees. I worry we are all going to cause armageddon if someone doesn't disagree...)

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2011 15:44

aye wasalso thinking it was time the thread got derailed.

OnthefirsdayofMrsDeVere · 02/01/2011 15:44

Exactly ZZZ I am not presenting a bleeding thesis, I having a noodle on an internet forum.

OP posts:
KalokiMallow · 02/01/2011 15:47

That's helpful cat, it's the people who complain about it being done before who are being stupid.

scurryfunge · 02/01/2011 15:47

I think it is reasonable to point out someone's poor spelling or grammar if they are having a go at someone for just that very thing. They become fair game.

ilythia · 02/01/2011 15:49

No, but seriosuly, we can't all agree on an AIBU thread! Quick, start another where we can all disagree with you to rebalance things!

spikeycow · 02/01/2011 15:50

No I like being agreed with. Makes a feckin change

OP posts:
OnthefirsdayofMrsDeVere · 02/01/2011 15:50

its fine to say there are loads of threads. Its fine to say a lot of things but its how they are said isnt it?

If you point someone in the right direction its helpful. If you just post with a biscuit and a yawn - thats bloody horrible.

Unless someone is being an offensive trollish twat - then anything goes.

I love it when people get caught out being snobby about grammer, they nearly always make a mistake. Its v.funny.

spikeycow · 02/01/2011 15:54

And how come LOL isn't allowed but we can ROFL and PMSL? Surely laughing a bit loudly is better than being covered in piss?

OP posts:
KindleTheSky · 02/01/2011 15:54

You know someone will come along and shout GRAMMAR at you now and then slink of to pedants [spelling] corner to slad you off Grin

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2011 15:55

sometimes you think you are posting some perfectly normal thing, just blabbing along as usual and people take offence
and you wonder why

I can remember having posted something or other which I thought was totally inoffensive and another poster asked me what was wrong and if I was in a really bad mood. Honestly I had no idea at all how Ishe was reading it, that I was psoting a load of aggressive poisonous tripe or whatever I was doing. I really didn't.

Other times I have done it and been aware of it , I'll admit...

KindleTheSky · 02/01/2011 15:55

aahh but spikey "pissing" is edgy like mumsnetters don't you know.

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2011 15:55

no sladding please

ilythia · 02/01/2011 15:55

PMSL and ROFL always sound unsanitary. You wouldn't be laughing if you rolled on my floor, you'd be picking bits of fuzzy felt and lego off your back.

spikeycow · 02/01/2011 15:56

Edgy? In Boden? Naaaa Grin
