I'm not being unreasonable in any way, I'm just getting sick of new posters who aren't sure of the way the land lies getting ripped into by threads full of frothing "I'm better than you because I can spell" up their arse Mumsnetters. Being able to spell or not means nothing. Do people really think they are superior over someone just because they can spell better? Newsflash: you aint.
Now froth away, I'm not wrong so don't give a shit

It's all very well to harrumph about the treatment of new posters, but there is no denying that we are undergoing a massive troll invasion at the moment.

Not supposed to comment on suspected trolls, you are supposed to report and walk away

There hasn't been an influx in trolls, just and influx of regulars who perceive them as trolls. Most of the outed trolls aren't new people but people who have built a story over weeks or months

New posters are treated badly - look how many people start their posts with 'I am a namechanger' and list old stories to prove it. Why would they do that if newbies were welcomed?

The pedants who want to pull people up on their typing are very annoying. You don't have to read and you don't have to comment - so why humiliate someone?

usualsuspect · 02/01/2011 23:21

Its like the pedants are saying we don't want your sort round here ..pisses me off no end

BitOfFun · 02/01/2011 23:26

I haven't commented on any troll threads, badly-spelled or otherwise. If I think somebody is posting in the wrong place for advice, I will say, if I want to. And then I will take the piss if I want to. If MN was filled with po-faced sincerity wall-to-wall, it would be pretty dull.

scaredoflove · 02/01/2011 23:35

Why feel the need to take the piss though?

blueshoes · 02/01/2011 23:40

It is quite natural for newbies in any group to be treated with some caution. It is like that in RL, and hardly different online.

I cannot really understand the logic of regular namechanging.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 02/01/2011 23:46

i had my spelling ridiculed recently. first time ever on MN. but because I'm not a newbie i just told her to get lost. i do feel for newbies though that maybe aren't confident enough to do that. it shouldn't really matter how they spell. we can usually tell what tehy mean.

troll invasion? wheres that then?

mob mentality is bad at times. A good friend came on and posted an AIBU (which she was, but with reason) and was absolutely flamed to hell and back. I pointed out (and this was when I was Jack Bauer) the salient parts in her OP that meant she shoudl be given a break and immediately all the 'I agree with JB' posts started. HIlarious. Not so much for her but anyway.

porcamiseria · 03/01/2011 09:59

agree beertricks,

its very VERY false sense of belonging, if your only clique is on the web, well thats a teensy bit sad huh

cobbledtogether · 03/01/2011 13:05

I've not seen an influx of trolls, just people calling 'troll' at the drop of a hat.
