OP posts:
xkittyx · 14/12/2010 12:07

Isn't this where I say that I'm entitled to express my opinion etc etc? I can add a few sweary words for effect if that would help put my point across.

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 14/12/2010 12:14

I was never offended by what anyone said. I'm a big girl, i give as good as i get! lol

I do feel it was totally cos my my age, the minuute i mentioned it, which i obv have to refrain (SP) from doing on this site, i was greeted by a whole load of, 'well when ur this age u will still be wearing what u wear now' 'when you are this age you wont think it's old' 'you will understand when you are 39' 'when ur older you'll get it' and if that is not me being belittled due to only being 21 then i dont know what is.

xkittyx · 14/12/2010 12:21

The thing is, people older than you have been 21. You've not been 39. It's true that when you're in your thirties it doesn't seem old, and many people's tastes wont' have changed massively. People have simply been stating what their experiences are. It wasn't an insult to you at all. And by taking it as such, you're essentially devaluing other people's life experience.
The sticking point really is that you used the word "slut" in the context you did. It clearly riled people and the gracious thing to do would probably have been to acknowledge that it was poorly phrased and apologise.
Btw there is nothing at all wrong taking on board life experience from people older than you. I'm 35 and I look to older people and people with more relevant experience to mentor me professionally, and try and learn from them generally. 21 is young, you should enjoy it not feel defensive about it.

"I was never offended by what anyone said. I'm a big girl, i give as good as i get! lol"

Ahhhh, so NOW we're getting to the crux of it. Grin

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 14/12/2010 12:54

I know people that are 39 have once been 21 lol i get that lol I didnt feel like people were just stating their experiences. I found that people where just trying to be mean to me. I did use the word slut, and i'm not going to apologise for that.

GMajor, you're soooo funyy!!! lol My sides are splitting!!! lol :)

xkittyx · 14/12/2010 13:08

If you're not prepared to apologise for, in effect, calling a number of people on here sluts, then why are you even surprised that people were "being mean" to you? Most people react badly to being insulted!

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 14/12/2010 13:09

^Idly wonders if H20 wore dress^

^Hides thread^

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 14/12/2010 13:11

Well i feel i was insulted due to my age!!! lol

emy72 · 14/12/2010 13:29

I am 39 and I have quite a few dresses and skirts above my knee. I don't think I look sluttish but then that's just me.

I am a size 8 and if I wear a short skirt or dress normally is with boots and nice tights and a normal top (as in not too low cut etc)

I also wear leggings and skinny jeans! (shock horror!) - normally with a long top or jumper on top though!

I think tasteful dressing is ageless - I would think most people look nice if dressed tastefully at any age.

GMajor7SwansASwimming · 14/12/2010 13:35

Polly it has naff all to do with your age FGS! You were rude - simple as!

Have to say though that the use of lol after every post does have a kindergarten flavour to it!

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 14/12/2010 13:48

i use lol so as not to take things too seriously, esp on here!!! lol Plus i find when writing, as opposed to actually speaking face to face with someone, some things can come across not the way you want them too. I add lol, when i dont want things to seem like i am being a complete bitch.

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL :0

dickiedavismincepies · 14/12/2010 14:06

Didn't do a very good job then did you LOL

GMajor7SwansASwimming · 14/12/2010 14:14

You're all a bunch of sluts lol! Grin

dickiedavismincepies · 14/12/2010 14:18
Grin
pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 14/12/2010 14:24

You don't know me! This is not me being a bitch, far from it! lol

GMajor7SwansASwimming · 14/12/2010 14:30

I can only imagine....

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 14/12/2010 23:48

I think pollywolly should consider changing her name to plollylolwollylol, to ensure that she gets as many lols into every post.

UntitledNo2 · 15/12/2010 01:34

xkittyx , I could not agree more!

Polly , as I have said previously, your age has no bearing on how people have responded to you. Your rudeness however, has. Surely you can understand that?

takethatlady · 15/12/2010 09:04

Just a few pics of women around the 40-mark wearing short dresses.

Tess Daly

Amanda Holden

Kate Moss

J-Lo

You're right though polly, they're a bunch of sluts Grin Hmm

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 15/12/2010 11:30

So you are comparing yourself to the likes of J-Lo?

takethatlady · 15/12/2010 11:44

No no, as I said before I'm only 28. I'm not defending myself here - just saying women who are 40 can look gorgeous in shorter skirts. Unless you've seen them with your own eyes it's probably best not to judge.

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 15/12/2010 11:56

I dont think the likes of J-Lo and the other people on your list look anything like your average 40 y/o. So don't know if they can really be something to be compared to by the average Jo.

takethatlady · 15/12/2010 12:02

Oh I get it now! Brilliant - thank you. Famous people are okay to wear short skirts because they are so utterly fantabulous and gorgeous.

Non-famous people should steer clear though, cos they're really ugly. Otherwise they'd be famous, wouldn't they?! Never thought of that. And of course being ugly and wearing a short skirt makes you a slut, whereas being gorgeous and wearing a short skirt means you are classy.

Got it. I am guessing you have seen the OP in real life and know that she is neither famous nor good looking, and that's why you said she could dress like a slut if she wanted. Makes perfect sense now - thanks for clearing that up.

[PS. It must be pretty glamorous in East Anglia though, 'cos I see plenty of attractive women over 40 all the time. Weird! Must be something in the water]

takethatlady · 15/12/2010 12:39

PS - not sure what the 'average 40 year old' looks like but maybe this:

Coleen Nolan

Or this:

Patsy Kensit

Or this:

<a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.celebritydietdoctor.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Pamela-Stephenson.jpg&imgrefurl=zmarter.com/diet-health/pamela-stephensons-28-pound-weight-loss-on-strictly-come-dancing.html&usg=__7IJKVFC3yfOJq_015hYMKzGWllo=&h=822&w=425&sz=64&hl=en&start=10&zoom=1&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=vgqQelRqdxQMDM:&tbnh=144&tbnw=74&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpamela%2Bstephenson%2Bstrictly%2Bcome%2Bdancing%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%26tbs%3Disch:1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pamela Stephenson Oh wait - she's not 40, she's 61!!

Goodness, this is tricky, isn't it? Seems like there isn't a hard and fast rule after all.

Right, off to get ready for soft play. Where DID I put those stilettos?

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 15/12/2010 12:47

Takethatlady - I bet it's cos they don't get too much sun in East Anglia, so they avoid the weather-ageing effects of it! Xmas Wink

If I were still the same size as I was in my mid-30s, I'd still be wearing the mid-thigh length skirts I wore then - but sadly am not and wouldn't buy them in bigger sizes. Faaaar more to do with size/shape/tonedness than age.
