...and have rotten eggs and tomatos thrown at them.
How dare they go on holiday and be allowed to have christmas presents etc
They should live on bread and dripping.

I often wonder how the bitterness and distaste aimed at disabled benefit claiments will tie in with the calls for support of our injured service men and women.

At the moment there is an upswell of indignation that they are not given the resources they need. How terrible that they are not being given enough money to live on whilst the 'others' are living in luxury thanks to DLA etc.

In a few years time, when their former status is long forgotten. They too will be subjected to the bollocks on this thread. They too will just be part of the 'others' and no one will care about how they became disabled or why they are not working.

Because despite them being our brave boys and girls, people still will whinge about making 'reasonable adjustments', they will still be looked at sideways when they get out of a car with a blue badge because they probably nicked it (after all - look at him all big and strong, walking and all!)

The history that some are so keen on has showed that our service personel have been fucked over royally by government after government. Ignored and hidden away as an embarressment with their lack of limbs and PTSD.

I am not a jingoist, I think the war is a disgrace and the fashion for support 'our Heros' is insincere and media driven because it sells papers.

I do think those disabled in the service of their country deserve that country's support. They wont get it. They might get a pat on the back and a brief period of adoration from the Mirror and the Sun.

But in ten years time they will be lumped in together with the rest of us scrounging bastards.

Just like my OH. Ok he didnt get shot in Gulf War 1. But he did come back and get a neurological disease rare in his 'type' and his daughter who was concieved on his return died from a relentless form of luekemia 14 years later.

I dont think he is anymore deserving than anyone else on this thread. I dont do that crap. But its an illustration of how stupid and fickle and closed minded and just plain ignorant people are.

snowmash · 05/12/2010 01:02

OK, care goes up to £20 an hour when it's on double time...gosh my £10 bonus goes far (usually reduce my drinking on BHs).

spikeycow · 05/12/2010 01:35

Too pissd to read much but I guess what Mrsdevere said I agree with. Nobody nows what situation you will ever be in in life. So all the judging is shit. I'd have a right go if I wasn't goin bed right now

spikeycow · 05/12/2010 01:36

Oh and Blush for the morning

Hopelesslydisorganised · 05/12/2010 09:15

I notice that lifeforrent has not been back to say how she would achieve planning her finances for disability. Speaks volumes doesn't it?

Lifeforrent if you are reading this - you are without doubt one of the coldestand dispicable people I have come across in a long long time. I never wish disability on anyone but I'd wish it on you dear - maybe then you'd learn some humilty - who knows - stranger things have happened.

So c'mon - what's your plan? Lets all hear your sage words about how we could have predicted and planned for either our own disabilities or our childrens. What about those of us who were in minimum wage jobs previously? Cos on minimum wage of course there's loads of cash left over to save Hmm

You say you are going back to the baby name threads - well stay there - nobody wants you or your nasty opinions on here.

mrsscoob · 05/12/2010 09:34

I could not believe some of the things I have read on this thread! I can't believe that some people feel this way. I am just thankful that it seems to be only a couple of idiots spouting of this nonsense and that the majority of people don't agree with them and think they are wrong. How anyone could not feel moved by some of the things written here, I really don't get. How self centered is cupcakes after reading some of the replies, most people of sound mind would have apologised and left the board sharpish in shame but no, she was more worried about people swearing at her!!! I actually think that cupcakes and lifeforrent actually have some kind of personality disorder. The inability to feel empathy is actually a psychoitic trait. I have to say I do feel sorry for their children.

tbh I amazed that there are idiots people out there who are jealous of disabled people and their carers.
this kind of "omg they get £10, why don't I" attitude is why the government can slide through the cuts that will destroy many disabled peoples lives, with out a thought .

Kaloki · 05/12/2010 10:44

"Our benefits system has destroyed this nation."

So in your ideal world there'd be no safety net at all? What do you suppose would happen to the disabled? Or those who found themselves redundant during the recession? Or carers?

I work full time (and some) and work my arse off, I pay a lot of my wages in taxes to support those on benefits.

You know what.....I hope every one of the people on benefits gets the £10 and it helps in some tiny way to make Xmas a little bit better for them. I only wish it could be more.

I don't begrudge anyone who is struggling on benefits an extra £10. I thank my lucky stars every day that I am able to work and don't have to live with a disability and rely on benefits. I cannot begin to imagine how hard life must be for them, or other people on other benefits.

It would certainly make my Xmas a happier one knowing that a family had food/heat for the day with that extra bit of money.

And lets face it....its hardly enough for them to be enjoying a Carribean cruise for Xmas is it!! £10 - doesn't make a huge difference to anyone.

Riven, 2shoes, I hope you spend the £10 from my tax on booze and partying!! Oh, and if there is enough left over get yourself a plasma tv!

my gorgeous ten year old son is a 'person like that' thanks for making me cry, you make me sick,

TheFeministParent · 05/12/2010 12:56

What's happened to a society where we have to incentivise people to get a job and pay for their own lives rather than living, crappily, off the state?

Perhaps if more people that could work did work, there would be more money for those that genuinely could not.
