I often wonder how the bitterness and distaste aimed at disabled benefit claiments will tie in with the calls for support of our injured service men and women.
At the moment there is an upswell of indignation that they are not given the resources they need. How terrible that they are not being given enough money to live on whilst the 'others' are living in luxury thanks to DLA etc.
In a few years time, when their former status is long forgotten. They too will be subjected to the bollocks on this thread. They too will just be part of the 'others' and no one will care about how they became disabled or why they are not working.
Because despite them being our brave boys and girls, people still will whinge about making 'reasonable adjustments', they will still be looked at sideways when they get out of a car with a blue badge because they probably nicked it (after all - look at him all big and strong, walking and all!)
The history that some are so keen on has showed that our service personel have been fucked over royally by government after government. Ignored and hidden away as an embarressment with their lack of limbs and PTSD.
I am not a jingoist, I think the war is a disgrace and the fashion for support 'our Heros' is insincere and media driven because it sells papers.
I do think those disabled in the service of their country deserve that country's support. They wont get it. They might get a pat on the back and a brief period of adoration from the Mirror and the Sun.
But in ten years time they will be lumped in together with the rest of us scrounging bastards.
Just like my OH. Ok he didnt get shot in Gulf War 1. But he did come back and get a neurological disease rare in his 'type' and his daughter who was concieved on his return died from a relentless form of luekemia 14 years later.
I dont think he is anymore deserving than anyone else on this thread. I dont do that crap. But its an illustration of how stupid and fickle and closed minded and just plain ignorant people are.
