...and have rotten eggs and tomatos thrown at them.
How dare they go on holiday and be allowed to have christmas presents etc
They should live on bread and dripping.

Right now DH and I are living under our means because our priority is buy a house for our growing family. We are making sacrifices to get what we want in the future. My sister is sitting around letting others pay for her bills and living the fucking high-life at other expense, taking much needed money from those that actually need it.

2shoesnightmarebeforechristmas · 04/12/2010 22:46

i put bigots and trolls in the same box.

LifeForRent · 04/12/2010 22:58

Ah so like me with people who claim benefits and (non) working class scum?

c0rns1lk · 04/12/2010 22:58

Did you answer Pagwatch's question about child benefit?

Non working class scum.
You really are a nasty piece of work.
I hope for your sake you never need any help/support through hard times.

Cupcakes
You seem to think my every post has been directly addressed to you.
They are not.
I don't need benefits thanks. I have no sore spot. I just don't like the mean spirited.

It doesn't matter who's thread it is. The point is that some posters saw a thread about putting benefits claimants in the stocks and thought that that was a good place to discuss their views on the Christmas bonus.

Lifeforrent.
Some of us pay more in tax than you do. I would be happy for more of my taxes to go to those who need it. I would love it if it could be used to educate the determindly revolting.

2shoesnightmarebeforechristmas · 04/12/2010 23:11

oh I give up on the knob
there are some people in this world who are just very nasty.
so Pag my dear, have you had snow?

Desiderata · 04/12/2010 23:12

Now, here's a point that's not been mentioned hitherto.

I'll put my cards on the table. I've never claimed benefits, and I 'think foul scorn', as QE1 would have said, on those who play the system because they're too damned thick and lazy to do 'owt else.

I am a Tory, after all.

That said, even benefit scroungers go shopping. Even benefit scroungers pay VAT on purchases, etc.

So quite unwittingly, a proportion of their money goes straight back to the state.

Much like buying a drink in a pub, and receiving the change, and realizing two hours on that you might as well have run a tab.

Yes, muchly..
The children are off school and the house looks like a pretty cake again.
I am going to go to bed and ignore the beasts.
I guess they serve a purpose. If it were not for the twats then how would we appreciate generosity of spirit and human warmth when we encounter it.

Sleep well shoesie

thefirstMrsDeVere · 04/12/2010 23:16

Plan? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHLAHAHAHAHAHAH
HA!

Plan for my OH to get a disease which 'black men do not get' according to several medical staff. Hmm
Plan for my healthy child to get cancer and spend two years selfishly dying so I had to give up work to care for her.
Plan for my OH's stupid bint of a neice to have a child she couldnt care for so we fostered, adopted and who turned out to have multiple disabilities.

I would LOVE to see the spreadsheet for that bit of life planning.

We did both work and I studied, we DID save, unfortunately not everyone is fortunate enough to earn enough money to save enough money to offset the cost of the amount of bollocks thrown at us.

Thanks for saving the NHS by going private. I suppose those doctors that treat you and the nurses that tend to your every need were trained at some special private place, nothing to do with the NHS? And those blood transfusions, that blood comes from a special private source does it?
Does it my arse.

Desiderata · 04/12/2010 23:32

Great Post, MrsDV.

People in your circumstances are precisely what the welfare state should be for.

Your situation could happen to anyone, at any time. I honestly wish that more people could see that, before it's too late for them to see it.

Kaloki · 04/12/2010 23:37

Oh for crying out loud, this thread has me fuming. Some of you need to try walking a mile in some of our shoes, fuck it, try walking a couple of meters! Hmm

I don't agree with a 'Christmas bonus' for those on certain kinds of benefits

It is for those on disability linked claims. Now just try and imagine you are disabled. Say you have mobility issues? Over the Christmas period would you say transport is, a) cheaper, b) the same, or c) higher? Now imagine you had to get somewhere, say a hospital appointment? How far do you think that £10 would go? And you begrudge them this seriously?? Yes, it adds up to a lot of money in the bigger picture, but money is tight enough if you have a disability - there are a lot of costs that you do not think about when you are healthy.

And that's one example. There are more, but I've got oh so much else to say now!

I think Ghandi would roll over in his grave if he thought his words were being used on this thread

Do you now? So what do you think those words really mean oh wise one?

You never know when you might need to claim and if you are genuinely in need then there is no reason to be defensive.

Imagine you'd been told the small amount extra you have been given which comes nowhere near helping you through the winter is something you don't deserve. Would you describe your reaction as flattered exactly? Plus what we actually hear most on these threads is that unless you are almost in a coma you aren't considered disabled enough to be entitled to benefits.

LifeForRent
And for those of who insist on claiming DLA and those who cannot get dressed for one reason or another, what's to stop you from working from home?

If I ignore for the moment the fact that, in order to get DLA you have to prove things are really really difficult for you, it's impossible to just insist on getting it. It isn't handed out to anyone who asks.

Do you actually know how hard it is to get jobs from home? (Psst recession fuckwit) Even before the recession it was hard, most jobs advertised as work from home are scams, unless you are in a skilled profession. Plus you still need to factor in things like regular hospital/therapy/treatment appointments, most jobs aren't too keen.

For those of who are insistent on using the NHS that might come in handy

You really are vile aren't you? Insistent??? We don't get a fucking choice! If I had a choice I wouldn't have any health problems at all, sure everyone else feels the same.

The Govt are not there to pay for people who cannot pay for themselves, and those that get handouts ought to be grateful not on their high horse that they "deserve it". It is not a right or an entitlement.

So what you are saying is we don't deserve money to pay for food/housing/heat? We deserve nothing right? Maybe they should change the claim system so if you are not fully functional you can be put to sleep for being not perfect. Would that suit you better? Would save the country money right?

The ones who are getting so defensive and annoyed are those who have a sort spot about claiming I see.

You mean the ones who you have told don't deserve any help whatsoever? No, can't see why anyone would get angry there. (Twat)

But yeah I agree it's costing the tax payer far too much for people to keep their heating on an extra few days.

For some people that heating can make a massive difference to their quality of life, like say, being able to move at all. For some it can save their life.

How on earth did people cope before "free money" was being thrown at them?

They didn't. Which is why the welfare system was invented.

they get out of bed and attempt to make their lives better for themselves.

So do disabled people, what you fail to take into account is that they are starting at a lower point, and "making life better for themselves" can mean things like, having to learn how to talk/walk all over again.

^For all of you who are insistent that you all worked before falling ill, saving up may have been the way to go.

If you fail to plan...^

I saved. But the amount you get for disability is not enough to cover all the additional costs. Therefore my savings vanished. Also how the hell do you plan for most disabilities?? And what about those who have been born disabled, what do you expect them to do?

Provisions, like free health care? Or paying for bills like most people on minimum wage have to face every month?

There are a shit ton of extra things you have to pay for, I mean you want to know some of the stuff, look up Riven's threads, then come back and tell me she only has to pay out what most people do.

LifeForRent Most of us have watched our lives and plans spiral down the drain, for us, our partners, our children. So much is stacked against us. The things you take for granted are out of our reach. Life is so far from perfect, and we are thrown these piddly sums of money while fuckers like you sit there thinking you are so superior just because you have got lucky. Well done you. I hope that if you health ever gives up on you, that someone just like you will be there to kick you while you are down.

byrel · 04/12/2010 23:39

People who live on welfare and are unemployed often have quite serious problems eg depression/ little or no self esteem themselves and need help in order to get off them and go out to work. The worst thing that has happened is the way that some people have been stuck on them and forgotten about.
The demonisation of these people helps no-one.

2shoesnightmarebeforechristmas · 04/12/2010 23:40

Kaloki brilliant post

Desiderata · 04/12/2010 23:49

byrel, the reason why many people can't work because they're depressed is because .....

The welfare state has much to answer for.

Jeez ...........

What has the Labour movement done over the years?

I swear to God it's fucking destroyed us as a nation.

GO CLEAN TOILETS, YOU IDLE FUCKERS. DO SOMETHING, BUT JUST STOP, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, STOP MOANING.

desiderata- I think we need to spend more time and resources helping the long term unemployed back into work rather than just endlessly shoving them benefits.

Desiderata · 04/12/2010 23:55

I agree, Byrel.

I totally agree.

Depression can spring from many things

It's not uplifting to have to wake up at 6.30 in the morn, and get yourself ready for work.

But it's more uplifting than doing nothing.

arabicabean · 04/12/2010 23:57

"I think Ghandi would roll over in his grave if he thought his words were being used on this thread."

Actually he wouldn't - he was cremated!

Desiderata · 05/12/2010 00:02

I would like a society where all those people in need, get help.

I would like a society where those who are able and idle and yet refrain because they might be £50 better off a week, to go fuck themselves.

Con, Lab, LD, or alternative vote, whatever floats your boat ... address the real issues.

We have some lazy bastards in our country, and successive governments have allowed it to happen.

ReindeerBollocks · 05/12/2010 00:04

This thread is so sad. And horrid. I wrote an essay justifying why we have the systems we do.

But I just can't get over how bitter, selfish and arrogant some people are. It wouldn't be listened to anyhow.

Desiderata · 05/12/2010 00:11

Our benefits system has destroyed this nation.

You might have been better off reading history. It would have given you a better perspective.

huddspur · 05/12/2010 00:17

I agree with byrel its far too easy to write people on benefits as being lazy and feckless but its far more complicated than that. The current welfare system that we have doesn't give enough help and encouragement to people to get off benefits and get into employment.
