AIBU to think that the extremists that burnt poppies in London last week should be hung, drawn and quartered?

Muslim leaders should be publicly distancing themselves, & other Muslims - from these people. Has that ever happened? If it has I've never seen it.

clairefromsteps · 14/11/2010 16:37

Breaking news just in: some people are idiots. There always have been idiots, there always will be idiots and sadly a lot off idiots offer religion as an excuse for their idiotic behaviour (see also Salem witch trials, Spanish Inquisition etc)

Let me guess, the Daily Mail LOVED this story? And in their anti-Muslim frenzy, they will be giving these people exactly what they want, which is attention. Like a stroppy three-year-old having a meltdown, any attention is a result and the most upsetting thing that can happen is to be ignored.

Which I think is what we should be doing.

Riven; how many people would see that? and why should I have to google it? I want to see the leader of The Muslim council of Britain on C4 news reading that out... Has that ever happened?

TattyDevine · 14/11/2010 16:50

No, but you can blame white and possibly christian news/media producers for that, Daftpunk, not the Muslim council themselves. They might love to go on Channel 4 Hmm

seriously?

so a labour supporter could be arrested under a tory govt or vice versa

or a republican/anti royalist

etc etc

and you think this is good?

just so i don't risk my neck, what other beliefs do we all need to agree on or otherwise risk prosecution?

chibi · 14/11/2010 17:03

i didn't wear a poppy this year, am i as treasonous as someone who burns one, after all, i am not following the state line

is this a common opinion do you think?

Chibi - Looks like you are still struggling with the concept of Straw Men.

Just a thought, but you might find people will take you a little more seriously if you avoid use of them every time you contribute to a debate.

I do think the same rules need to apply to everyone and at the moment it seems they do not.

And yes I do think decent people on all sides need to stand up and say "not in my name"

Or we could just put all the extremist in a big field give them all the same size sticks and let them at each other till the last one is standing, then shoot that one! Grin

Where's these Muslim ladies laying a wreath then? I've had a fair Google, but I can't find the reference. I haven't got the magic word combination yet obviously - can someone dig it up....

i was responding to a post that said that you could be tried for treason for actively fighting against the state

you might find people took you more seriously if you learned to read posts more carefully Grin

you might also find that it is extremely unlikely i will give much of a toss what a patronising twit says

i feel that in a democracy unless anyone is inciting anyone else to commit a crime, or committing one themselves, then any opinion goes, regardless of how offensive

and that given how few of these protesters there were, a better response might have been to ignore them, rather than give intense media coverage, or act as though this is significant, or expect their coreligionists to justify/distance themselves
