What can you use it for apart from radiation? I know where ours is, I am pretty certain dh doesn't. (Rachel Allen's new signature 'cheese sandwich with iodine relish?)

drivingmisscrazy · 11/11/2010 19:48

didn't they use iodine for wounds in the olden days...for when the nation runs out of Savlon?

stleger · 11/11/2010 21:13

My great granny used cobwebs from the duck house to cover wounds. them were the days.

drivingmisscrazy · 11/11/2010 21:23

stleger way we are going on we'll be telling the dcs that no, we can't afford swanky plasters with dinosaurs on, here have an old cobweb...

stleger · 11/11/2010 22:54

We need a 'cheese' version of Biscuit.

wukter · 12/11/2010 09:44

Did anyone see PrimeTime last night?
Are we supposed to feel sorry for the 'middle classes' living in castles and not being able to afford FOUR presents at a time for their children? I thought I was middle class, job, home-mortgage, choices involving new shoes for DC OR visit to GP. The 'coping class' don't have multiple properties in Dubai, surely?
Are RTE inept, or engaged in some sinister conspiracy?

glastocat · 12/11/2010 09:50

RTE are inept, that programme was just silly.

'Wah wah wah, we can't afford the 4k fuel bill for our castle.' Hmm

My heart was just bleeding. Angry

The same people who drove us over the precipice are offering us cheese. All the while they are being driven around in mercs and being paid ?200K per year. Our Taoiseach (PM)is paid more than Barack Obama, and they offer us cheese.

Our Taiseach was Minister of Finance, he personally cooked up this disaster, but is still so power-hungry that he wont call a general election!

And cheese.

etc

wukter · 12/11/2010 10:04

No pisstake, Kerry.
I didn't know what to make of it so I put on my tinfoil hat - once that was firmly wedged around the ears I realised that they are softening up the electorate for the middleclass budget cuts. As the mc deserve it, them and their castles.

Surely they don't believe that's a representative sample.

I think it's to do with everyone knowing everyone. Don't want to upset the person who sold you a pup because he's married to your cousins neighbour.

stleger · 12/11/2010 12:59

I missed that, because I was watching the documentary on the other side - Lucy Kennedy and Crystal Swing. It was really good Grin They don't live in a castle, just a nice country bungalow.

drivingmisscrazy · 12/11/2010 16:46

I used to teach Lucy Kennedy, q.v. previous post about everyone knowing everyone else

stleger · 12/11/2010 17:55

You must have been so proud when she was Podge and Rodge's helper Smile

becaroo · 12/11/2010 18:12

oh dear.

I am irish and allergic to cheese.

I am obviously fucked.

drivingmisscrazy · 12/11/2010 18:36

stleger: see, I'm a public servant, and I can't understand why they say I don't make a contribution to the nation Wink Proud doesn't even come close...(she was a nice girl before R+P got to her)

wukter · 12/11/2010 19:21

Grin drivingmisscrazy.

Matt Cooper has just reported an unsubstantiated Reuters story that Ireland has defaulted and is in secret talks. The 2 Brians have denied this.

wukter · 12/11/2010 19:26

I am probably using the word 'unsubstantiated' wrongly, not sure - I mean they got it from an unnamed source.

Didn't the UK hand out butter to OAP's in the '8O's? I'm sure my grandmas went to the fire station to collect hers, and was well chuffed with her pats.

GeruptaSingh · 12/11/2010 19:46

becaroo can I have your cheese?

And anybody else who does not want it, I will take it off your hands

OP posts:
drivingmisscrazy · 12/11/2010 20:33

that rumour is also on the Irish Times website - it begins 'Cowen denies...'. So that's what's happening then Confused

lilyliz · 12/11/2010 20:34

U K did hand out butter and cheese years ago to get rid of the mountains of them.As a low earner with kids I was entitled to it,loads of folk did'nt like them and I ended up with a freezer full of it,I am not too proud to pass a handout but lots of people were.
