Carrigaline here. (Very dull indeed, but we seem to be getting a Quay Co-op!)

Ohh St Leger, Quay Co-op is verr nice! Give me a shout if you ever fancy a glass of non turnip wine in Douglas! Grin

glastocat · 10/11/2010 22:25

Or indeed anywhere handy.

drivingmisscrazy · 10/11/2010 22:35

Blush have been typing stieger instead of stleger. Sorry! Am I the lone jackeen, then? DP from North Cork for about a million generations, if that counts?

encyclogirl · 10/11/2010 22:50

I live about 7 miles west of Bandon. Good guesses! We lived in Clon for a while after we moved back, but the commute was insane. Bandon is our 'big town', but Enniskean is closer. I have some pals in Carrigaline. I love how they call it a village! When's Quay Co-op coming?

The farmers market at Mahon point is very good in fairness. There's a curry wagon and the food is really cheap and good. I get sidetracked by the artisan cheeses too though...

Kerry do you mean Milltown Malbay? Near Lahinch? Fabby spot.

encyclogirl · 10/11/2010 22:51

DrivingMiss, I dunno. Where MA from? We might have the makings of Mumsnet Meet yet :)

mathanxiety · 10/11/2010 22:51

A few ideas for your surplus turnips -- I'm pretty sure you can make turnip vodka or turnip poitin.

encyclogirl · 10/11/2010 22:51

Where's

stleger · 10/11/2010 22:51

The first stleger race was run in Doneraile...havta love those Irish and their horses! Ddog is from North Cork. (Me and dh are from N.Ireland! Blow ins - but I have 3rd cousins in Cork!)

sexybrunettemotherof5 · 10/11/2010 22:56

Glastocat!!! I may be wrong here, but I think I know you from another forum years back....you once offered to send me some money when I was skint. Just want to say hello, and how the hell are you? x

working9while5 · 10/11/2010 23:06

I am from somewhere near Ddog's homeplace, then.

glastocat · 10/11/2010 23:10

sexybrunette I am intrigued, I don't make offers like that very often! Grin PM me or email spillane 100 at hotmail dot co dot uk

Decorhate · 11/11/2010 07:11

Ooh this is all getting a bit too close to home - my ILs seem to live near StLeger & Glastocat!

What about the Christmas Market that was held in te Grand Parade last year - is it on again this year?

stleger · 11/11/2010 11:23

Yes the Christmas Market is on its way in Cork. There is also a truly gorgeous one on its way in Clare is the fab golf resort (Doonbeg?) We walked on a path through it to the beach about 4 years ago, and cross lady golfers screeched at us, we couldn't work out if it was possible to go in for coffee as it looks like a posh hotel. Now they have a Craft Fayre! For such a massive county, everyone in Cork knows everyone else... I'll report on whether our Quay Coop has a cafe..

canyou · 11/11/2010 15:14

To move everyone away from the markets
My Gran just got her block of free cheese we are Shock she has enough money to be more then comfortable and only received it because she gets meals on wheels which she pays for because she has to much money to get it free, what a disgrace I have handed it back with a lecture on how it is meant for those in need ie not a pensioner who receives the equivalent of a 39 hr weeks wage [and not minimum wage at that] she gets more then I did working full time. Also she would not eat cheese.

canyou · 11/11/2010 15:14

Sorry a bit of a rant but FFS talk about a crappy system

stleger · 11/11/2010 15:29

There are a lot of 'systems' which don't seem too sensible, rant on! (I still pine for the days when Bertie gave us a millenium candle, and we got two lots of iodine tablets because dh and I have different surnames).

canyou · 11/11/2010 15:44

Sorry I also filling in forms for a nursing home and trying to decide which why to go
The house and give the 22% even if she dies the next day or they take 80% of her pension and when that is done I need to find her a nursing home.
Yes I am lucky to have my Gran but my Mum is old enough for respite as well so is this my life for the next 30 yrs finding nursing home beds for my family so the block of useless f'ing cheese was the last straw I don't need cheese I need carers or a bed so as a 30 yro women I can enjoy my children and be there for them.

canyou · 11/11/2010 15:46

Stleger My Gran has hers in the glass cabinet along with the iodine tablets lol I had forgotten about them. How lucky were you getting 2 lots so as you would be extra safe.

Decorhate · 11/11/2010 16:08

What were the iodine tablets for??

canyou · 11/11/2010 16:11

In case Sellafield had a power plant accident we would survive Grin

stleger · 11/11/2010 16:23

Caring is a tough job - my PILs ae in their seventies and have a dd of 35, the three of them need a care plan - but PILs are not keen. (They are in NHS land, which is also far from perfect). I think families only got enough for 2 adults and 2 children on the iodine scheme, so at least we'd be able to give all 3 kids a dose Grin

Decorhate · 11/11/2010 17:25

I don't remember the iodine. Must have been after I emigrated. Or else my parents kept it quiet as they had 5 kids & wouldn't have enough for everyone!
