Don't know if anyone saw this interview on This Morning earlier this week.
Woman claims to be a sex addict and has slept with 1000's of men. Is married and her husband is aware of situation; even waiting in wine bars while she takes men home for a shag.

Her 42nd birthday present to herself was to sleep with 42 different men. Including all members of a stag party. At once.

AIBU in thinking this is all just a load of old bollocks? The woman is a slag, plain and simple. Surely if she was addicted to sex, she could just have lots and lots of sex with her husband. Why is there a need to sleep with so many men?

Exactly Bunny, I too have nothing against sexual freedom but to call it an illness or a compulsion, implying a lack of control or the need for pity, or indeed making it newsworthy FFS, is fecking ridiculous.

I was something of a lady with loose morals in my younger years. Bit embarassing to think of that now. Hardly worthy of an interview with Pip and Holly is it?

Addictions to drugs and alcohol often involve withdrawl. That is part of physical addiction. You can die during alcohol withdrawl for example. Hence why addicts can't "just give up" or "get some willpower". Her behaviour sounds compulsive and extremely unhealthy (possibly childhood sexual abuse?) but not a true addiction.

I don't doubt that the whole business had fairly deep seated psychological causes but, all the same, it is SURELY within her will to stop it? SURELY?

Sex addiction is a very real problem that hurts the addict and their family - it does not mean you like shagging a lot and very often the encounters aren't particularly enjoyed so no, a sex addict wouldn't just have lots of sex with their partner.

It's behaviour that is inappropriate, high-risk, compulsive and interferes with the sufferer's ability to live their life normally.

I didn't see the interview and I have no idea whether that particular woman is a sex addict or not, but sex addiction does exist.

I don't believe the majority of this 'sex addiction' stuff-it's usually spouted by people looking for an excuse.

I once met a woman though who had some sort of sex problem. She used to shag anything that moved be it male or female. When she wasnt doing that she was masturbating or talking about sex. I wouldn't say 'mental illness' as that didn't really seem to cover it. I got the sense that she was brain damaged in some way as it was all very odd.

I think it can be a compulsive behaviour, but that's not the same as an addiction. We don't describe people with compulsive hand washing as being "addicted to washing their hands".
If the person doing this isn't happy with their choice to sleep with lots of people they can get therapy to help them in the same way people who aren't happy washing their hands alot and thinking about washing their hands alot can.
The "must be attractive" thing doesn't make it sound much of a compulsion though, unless she finds most blokes attractive.

Just idly wondering: is she planning to repeat this "birthday bumps" approach to sex over and over? I wonder at what age you have to decide it's a bit unrealistic... "Ooh, Mavis, I'm 76 today... do you know what I plan on doing?"

Plus, if I decided I was a sex addict and was therefore going to celebrate my 42nd birthday by shagging 42 members of a hen party, chances are 41 of them would tell me to fuck off.

Or are you saying because this woman may not be suffering there's no such thing? Apply that to any number of medical complaints approached on here and perhaps reconsider..?

Better to call her a sex addict than a slag or a slut.

I'm very sceptical about sex addiction but I definitely don't believe that women who have a lot of sex are slags, sluts or have loose morals.

My query with this woman was that she could only sleep with them if she found them attractive. Surely if she was that addicted that wouldn't matter?

Xh was an alcoholic and he could drink anything for the alcohol (mouthwash if nothing else was a regular one)

I think if someone is having sex with 40+ men at a time then it probably is indicative of a psychological disorder rather than just 'she likes having sex'. The important distinction is excess, compulsion & apparent loss of control. She's bingeing, if you like.

We all know people who like shopping or who shop 'til they drop'. But it turns into a serious problem if they go shopping for no reason, spending money they don't have, getting into serious financial difficulty, leaving piles of unopened bags in their homes, neglecting jobs/families etc.

Fine line between an addiction and a destructive compulsion but, either way, she's got a serious problem.

A problem invented by celebrities (male) to escape from expensive divorces and pretend they are sick, when they are just using their youth, good looks and money to irresponsibly have a good time. If it does exost, it is v rare.

Made me laugh when T Woods checked himself into a clinic.

If she can stop herself shagging mingers I don't see why she can't rein in her "addiction" completely?

Also as others have said if she was a true sex addict would her birthday present to herself be to shag dozens of men?

I too find it funny that the biggest slag of all Eldrick Woods checked himself into rehab for this terrible affliction.
