to believe that sex addiction is all just a load of bollocks?

Don't know if anyone saw this interview on This Morning earlier this week.
Woman claims to be a sex addict and has slept with 1000's of men. Is married and her husband is aware of situation; even waiting in wine bars while she takes men home for a shag.

Her 42nd birthday present to herself was to sleep with 42 different men. Including all members of a stag party. At once.

AIBU in thinking this is all just a load of old bollocks? The woman is a slag, plain and simple. Surely if she was addicted to sex, she could just have lots and lots of sex with her husband. Why is there a need to sleep with so many men?

Taking the piss? Seriously, you're getting this upset about a fairly innocuous/throwaway term? I think you need to sit down and calm yourself a bit before you pop a blood vessel.

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/09/2010 10:39

What does margarine legs mean then?

I think this woman has a high sex drive.

Why does everything have to be an illness? MND is an illness.

Something to do with easily spread GetOrf.

What about should be buried in a y shaped coffin. That's a nice one for your little arsenal cupcakes. You could get a t-shirt made.

Gibbon · 24/09/2010 10:41

Erm, not upset or angry cupcakes (maybe you are?) I do find it sad though.

cupcakesandbunting · 24/09/2010 10:41

I was talking to Gibbon, shineon.

Gibbon · 24/09/2010 10:42

Now, now. Don't get all passive aggressive by bolding shiney's name and not mine.

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/09/2010 10:42

OH

I don't like the words slag or slut. There really is no male equivalent.

I have not seen the woman in question, but would assume that she is mentally imbalanced. And her husband is an enabler.

But what the bloody hell is she doing going on telly talking about it?

Fiddlestication · 24/09/2010 10:42

In a recent Gallup poll, 90 percent of people surveyed believe that alcoholism is a disease. Most argue that because the American Medical Association (AMA) has proclaimed alcoholism a disease, the idea is without reproach. But, the fact is that the AMA made this determination in the absence of empirical evidence. After reviewing the history of the decision, it is reasonable to suggest that the AMA has been pursuing its own agenda in the face of evidence refuting the disease theory of alcoholism. While the AMA has made contributions in the mental health field, the AMA is not outside the box and many of its mental health contributions have been dubious, at best. The AMA is a part of the capitalist paradigm that is necessary for our society to function. The promulgation of the disease concept, in conjunction with AMA approval, has created a multi-billion dollar treatment industry that contributes billions to the health care industry. But, even with the AMA's lofty status, mistakes in classifications can and has resulted in disastrous consequence.

Oh, I've got an arsenal of insults for all sorts, ShowofHands, not just women.

Is it a feminist thing then? An affront to the sisterhood?

GetOrfMoiLand · 24/09/2010 10:44

I have got an arsenal of insults.

cupcakesandbunting · 24/09/2010 10:44

There is a male equivalent and it's slag. Men can be slags too. Just to clarify.

"You can die during alcohol withdrawl for example"

So you can die if you don't have another drink? Any evidence for this anyone?

tethersend · 24/09/2010 10:48

The word slag is not used to describe a man. It describes only women- hence mine and others' disappointment that it is used with such venom on this thread; or even that it is used at all.

I saw the interview, and did not believe the woman at all. I think that she has some very deep issues, and wanting to draw attention to herself either by having sex with that amount of people, or by saying that she has to get on a chat show is indicative of that.

If it is true, she must be tired out.

ShowOfHands · 24/09/2010 10:48

I don't object in terms of gender. But the person detailed in the OP is a woman. I'd object to you calling men names too.

If somebody is in the grips of anything (disorder, illness, personality, learnt behaviour etc) that bad that they feel they need to talk to Philip Schofield about it, they deserve nothing but sympathy.

What tether said.

I love your last post SOH. It made me nod in agreement and lol at the same time.

cupcakesandbunting · 24/09/2010 10:52

Really? I've thought of men as slags before. And I don't think it's been used with particular venom in this thread either.

Maybe I'm just desensitised to the word. It was bandied around a lot at our school. There were quite few promiscuous people in our school and it was just an everyday word.

tethersend · 24/09/2010 10:55

"I've called men slags too. It's not gender specific, IMO."

I'm afraid your opinion on the use of the word is irrelevant; it's akin to pissing in the wind of the English language. The word 'slag' refers only to women or a partially vitreous by-product of smelting ore to separate the metal fraction from the unwanted fraction.

"There's always something on Mumsnet, isn't there? Ooh, you can't call a child naughty, that's just wrong. You can't call someone that's been living on benefits for five hundred years a scrounger, judgey judgey. You can't call someone with margarine legs a slag, how demeaning! Yeah, more demeaning than shagging anything that moves? "

I know. You can't even call people niggers or pakis or retards. Tsk.

What a bunch of cunts.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 24/09/2010 10:57

I saw the interview. I didn't think she was a sex addict, I just thought she was a vile individual. She was exceptionally self centred, had an attitude of 'I'll do what I like and fuck (literally) the consequences'. She also stated that she wanted to shag whoever to be 'happy', but if her DH ever cheated on her she'd divorce him. Oh, and her mum and dad didn't know about her lifestyle, but this was a great way to tell them Hmm

cupcakesandbunting · 24/09/2010 10:58

Oh don't be a tit, Tethersend. There is a vast difference between racial slurs and using a derogatory term because of offish behaviour that people actively choose to indulge in.

Only on MN could you get tarred with the same brush as a racist/SN basher for using the word slag...

mrsmindcontrol · 24/09/2010 11:02

fucking hell. Who knew i'd stir up such a hornet's nest with my choice of words? FWIW, I would refer to both men & women as slags. Its not a gender specific term to me. And I stand by my view although feel free to substitute the word slag for any other derogatory word you wish. The woman's behaviour is unpleasant, shows a total lack of respect for her husband and herself. And then to effectively BOAST about it on tv?! And I agree with cupcakes WHY is one never allowed to use a derogatory term for another woman on MN without being flamed? Just don't get it?

OP posts:
cupcakesandbunting · 24/09/2010 11:05

I've just watched the interview and she seems almost smug about things. I've known addicts in the past (FIL was an alcoholic, and we and he used to refer to himself as a pisshead OH NO!) and addicts are usually ashamed of their behaviour or deny it completely when confronted. This woman seems to be showboating her "addiction" as something vaguely amusing/quirky.

I wonder if she tried to dry hump Phil's leg when they cut to the ad break?
